Laser scanning technology consists of using lasers to projectonto the human body one or more thin and sharp stripes.

Simultaneously, light sensors acquire the scene and byapplying simple geometrical rules the surface of the humanbody is measured.

Instead of moving the scanner unit, a light pattern (usually in form

of stripes) is projected onto the human body.

A light sensor (e.g. a digital camera) acquires the scene.

Usually, binary coding systems are used to determine the origin of

the single stripes; for the increment of the resolution, the

projected stripes are additionally shifted. The major difference to laser scanning is that the acquisition

happens in a very short time and that it results in the digitization

    of entire surface parts.

Image processing is any form of signal processing for which

    the input is an image, such as a photograph or video frame;

the output of image processing may be either an image or a

set of characteristics or parameters related to the image.

3D information is generated and extracted from 2D images.

By using the symmetry of the human body, the most

important sizes of body are computed with sufficient

accuracy from the silhouettes of the body.

RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification.

A data collection technology that uses electronic tags for

    storing data.

The tag, also known as an "electronic label, "transponder"

or "code plate," is made up of an RFID chip attached to an

    antenna.

Transmitting in the kilohertz, megahertz and gigahertz

ranges, tags may be battery-powered or derive their

power from the RF waves coming from the reader.

"Passive" tags have no power source but use the

electromagnetic waves from the reader to energize the chip

and transmit back (backscatter) their data.

Passive tags can cost less than a quarter and be read up to

approximately 10 feet from the reader's antenna.

"Active" tags have a battery integrated for their power

    source.

They can transmit up to 300 feet indoors and more than a

    thousand feet outdoors.

A RFID reader accomplishes two tasks it receivescommands from the application software; and itcommunicates with tags.

Readers may be stationary, handheld or mounted onmobile objects like forklifts.

The reader transmits radio waves through an antenna.
