TheCityofRoundRockandRoundRockChamber of Commerce have teamed upwithWilliamson County and its cities tosupport Fort Hood’s 4ID CombatAviationBrigade.“TeamRoundRock”iscommittedtosupportingthe4ID’sAviationMaintenanceSupport Battalion, which includes 782soldiers and their families. Leading thechargeforTeamRoundRockisMayorNyleMaxwell, who was inspired after visits toFortHoodandatriptotheNationalTrainingCenter, where he spoke one-on-one withmanysoldiers. “I thought our soldiers were out therelearning how to shoot guns. But they’relearning so much more than that.They’relearning how to negotiate with mayorsand chiefs of police. It’s truly amazing,”Mayor Maxwell said. “Our soldiers wanttobetherefightingforusandsupportfromtheir hometown can help lift their spiritsandencouragetheirfamilies,whoalsofacechallengeshereathome.”

Avoiding Foundation ProblemsSimple Tips That Could Save You Thousands Of Dollars

Oneofthemostexpensivehomerepairsisalsooneofthemostavoidable.Foundationrepairscancostahomeownerupto$10,000,butmost problems canbe avoided, according toBenSutterfield,ownerofCenTexPreferredInspections,ahomeinspectioncompanybasedinAustin,Texas. “ManyofthehomesinAustinhavethepotentialforfoundationproblems,”saysSutterfield.“Mostfoundationproblemsarecausedbyeithertoomuchmoisture–ortoolittle–aroundthefoundation.” Sutterfield says problems with a house’s foundation usuallystartwhenthesurroundingsoilissaturatedwithwaterinonearea,completelydryinanotherarea,orsomevarianceofthetwo.SoilsintheareassurroundingAustinmakesthepotentialforfoundationproblemshigh,hesays. “Usually,thesoilonthesouthandwestsidesofyourhousewilldryoutfasterthanthesoilonthenorthandeastsides,”saysSutterfield.“Ifthesoilononesideofthehouseisdryandtheothersideiswet,thedifferencewillcauseheavingonthewettersideandshrinkingon thedrysideof thefoundation.” Drysoilpullsawayfromthefoundation,whilewetsoilcausesthefoundationtorise. If all soils beneath a foundation swells uniformly or shrinksuniformlyitisunlikelytocauseaproblem.Butwhenonlypartof

thefoundationheavesorsettles,differentialmovementcausescracksandotherdamage.Signsoffoundationproblemsinclude;doorsthatwillnotopenorcloseproperly,gapsatthecornerofexteriortrim,diagonalcracksinthewallatcornersofdoorsandwindows,gapsbetweenthegaragedoorandthepavementateithersideofthegaragedoor,windowsthatarehardtoopenandcloseandcracksinthebrickormortar. Butmostthedamagecanbeeasilyprevented,saysSutterfield,bywateringthesoilaroundyourhomeregularly,withspecialattentiontothesoilonthesouthandwestsideofyourhome. “Even if you have a sprinkler system, you may still have thepotentialforfoundationproblems.Theideaistocreateaconsistencyin the soil moisture surrounding your home’s foundation,” saysSutterfield. Sutterfield says oneof themost common causes of foundationproblemsiscondensationlinesfromairconditioningunitsdrainingdirectlynexttoahome’sfoundation.“Thatisafoundationprobleminthemaking,”hesays.Airconditioningcondensationlinesusuallyaremadeofquarter-inchblackplasticpipeaboutfourfeetlong.
