Note from the EditorSoldiers of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team mark our history as part of the mighty Tropic Lightening...our legacy etched in time. Each day we shape the future of the Bronco Brigade as we contribute to the strength of the Pacific and the strength of our nation. We will continue to tell stories about who we are and what we did here when our nation called upon us, but the only way we can do that is through our Soldiers...and YOU.

Bronco 6 and 7 have charged the public affairs office is with a great responsibility; to tell our story and let the world know why there is “None Better”. With your sto-ries, photos, readership, “likes”, shares, posts, and comments, our story wil never go unnoticed.

Very Respectfully,Staff Sgt. Cashmere C. Jefferson, 3rd Brigade Combat Team Public Affairs NCOIC

The devastation of the Twin Towers, followed by the attack of the Pentagon, helped to highlight the bravery and sacrifice of Flight 93, the first responders and every American watching in horror that day. Col. Eifler reminded Soldiers how the attacks on September 11, 2001 ushered in a new era for the military, while praising those who joined because that day. Citizens of this country also honor the fallen in many ways. As President Barack Obama put it, “Even the simplest act of kindness can be a way to honor those we have lost, and to help build stronger communities and a more resilient nation.” With the horror visited upon our homeland a little over a decade ago, the Soldiers and Families of the Bronco Brigade stand to remember a moment in history and honor the lives of those who will never be forgotten.

The thundering of troops, cadences, and the hammering of feet are all stark contrast to the origins of 9/11. More than a decade later the ripples of that fateful day are still felt in our

daily lives. “We gather today on our own hallowed ground not only to remember those 3,000 souls, but also our fallen comrades that gave their lives in the subsequent 11 years of war.” said Col. Brian S. Eifler, commander 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. Leaders of the 25th Division along with all of 3BCT’s Soldiers paused to reflect on the lives lost on Patriot’s day. The ceremony included a brigade run , reading of the names on the Bronco Memorial of the lost during the 11 years of war and a moment of silence for the fallen.

In the locker room before the big game amongst foot-ball playersrom the University of Minnesota “Gophers” Oct. 27, stands a man in a different sort of uniform, an Army Combat Uniform to be exact. Followed by the thundering cheers of thousands of screaming fans, 1st Lt. Trey Van Whye, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Divsion, lead the team out for the game holding the American flag that he sent to the football team’s Head Coach Jerry Kill, as a gift earlier this year. Traditionall when the Gophers take the field prior to a home game their players lead the team out onto the field car-ring an American flag and a flag representing their university, but on this game, they shifted from protocal. “This is about our country and representing our troops, it’s an opportunity to show why we get to play,” Kill said. “My father was in ther service (Army) and it was always important to remember the sacrifices of our troops.”

The flag held by Van Whye, a Gopher fan and a native of Hills, Minn., was flown in Afghanistan where he was recently de-ployed as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Van Whye carried the flag with him when conduction air assault missions as a good luck charm. I wanted to give the platoon flag to a civiliam organiza-tion where they wouldn’t normally receive anything military oriented. It was really good to see that someone was proud to have something of ours to inspire them,” Van Whye said. Upon receiving the gift, coach Kill told Van Whye via email that if he was ever in town for a football game, he would be honored to have him lead the Gophers on the field. “We wouldn’t have an opportunity to see a footall game if it wasn’t for our troops. If I could have someone in the mili-tary run the flag on the field every weekend I would,” Kill said. This particular game wasn’t set aside as a military appre-ciation game, but for a Gopher fan reaching out from his time in Afghanistan, it was a game intended to be an inspiration for a team, by giving them a memento of bravery.

Bronco Chaplain CornerThe Bible says in Psalm 31:19

How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you.

I truly believe that the first Thanksgiving was celebrated because the Pilgrims were happy that God had blessed them with another year of life. Thanksgiving for me is more than a tradition it is something that I try to always be mindful of during the year.

On the calendar, Thanksgiving Day only appears just once, however in an honest man’s life Thanksgiving should come every day. Thanksgiving is not only about the turkey and the huge din-ner spread that follows, it is a quiet reflection of how God is overwhelming you with His abundant blessings upon you. So thank Him with all your heart.

Thanksgiving is not only about thanking God for what you have been blessed with, it’s about help-ing the less fortunate so that even they can have reasons to be thankful.Soldiers should know about selflessness and doing good things for the less fortunate. Many of the reasons that we fight and go to war is to help the less fortunate and do for them what they cannot do for themselves.

Have a very Happy Thanksgiving.
