The Institute for Entrepreneurship in Fribourg, (www.entrepreneurshipinstitute.ch) Switzerland is offering a Business Summer School featuring an intensive program of specialized studies in international entrepreneurship, together with innovation and technology, in a multicultural envi-ronment.This program focuses on M.A. students from five different countries, (Canada, the USA, Mexico, Bra-zil, France & Switzerland) who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement. These students will have the opportunity to study Swiss national companies as well as multinational companies based in Switzerland. This program provides the knowledge, tools and conceptual frame-work needed to undertake entrepreneurial activities in an international environment, using a different management approach in Europe. One of the main aims of the course is to provide a dynamic model for understanding and foster-ing visionary thinking and entrepreneurship that will prepare you to act more entrepreneurially.

WHY STUDY IN SWITZERLAND?According to the European Innovation Union Scoreboard 2012, Switzerland is a leader in this field, scoring highly in innovation and creativity. In fact it is the overall innovation leader, outperforming all EU Member States. Its growth performance is also above that of the EU27 and it performs excep-tionally in terms of its intellectual assets and most economic indicators.

SUMMER SCHOOLThe summer school is a two-week seminar, taught in English by a multinational team. Students will have the opportunity to take part in the guest lectures with Swiss undergraduates and to visit na-tional and multinational companies that are based in Switzerland. They will also gain experience by exploring the international business environment using a different approach to management that is seen in other European countries.This focus on visionary and entrepreneurial thinking will provide participants with the knowledge, tools and conceptual framework required to undertake any kind of activity, but especially entrepre-neurial and organizational activities. Participants will learn the characteristics of entrepreneurs and how entrepreneurial activity systems are designed. They will also learn how to apply and use the entrepreneurial model of vision in order to understand entrepreneurial behavior in multicultural environments and use it as a basis for developing their own system of visionary and entrepreneurial thinking. The course lays the foundation for entrepreneurial activities both inside and outside exist-ing organizations, which is why visits to national and multinational companies take place during summer school.The second difference is the cosmopolitan mix you will find on this course, from teachers to stu-dents. At the end of the course, you should be able to act entrepreneurially and to engage in an entrepre-neurial process. You should be capable of identifying business opportunities, developing a vision, defining entrepreneurial activity systems, and establishing the support structure needed to trans-late your ideas into action. Whether or not you become an entrepreneur, the course should stimu-late your potential entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial behavior.

FACTS & FIGURESCERTIFICATEStudents who successfully participate in the summer school will be awarded an official certificate of participation from the Institute of Entrepreneurship / School of Business Administration in Fribourg Switzerland, along with guaranteed credit at their home university, thanks to bilateral agreements.

CREDIT POINTSThose who successfully complete the course will be awarded 7 European Credit Points.

ADMISSION CRITERIA • This program focuses on M.A. students with excellent academic achievement. • English Skills, B1 European level are essential. • Previous knowledge of entrepreneurship is taken into account in your application.

PARTICIPATION BY M.A. STUDENTSThe participants in the Summer School are M.A. students from different universities, such as Lor-raine University in France; HEC Montreal in Canada; WPI in the United States; Tecnologico de Mon-terrey in Mexico and UNINOVE University in Brazil. This group will mix with local Master’s students in Business Administration.Participation is strictly limited to summer school students.

RICO BALDEGGER International Entrepreneurship / http://www.ricobaldegger.chProfessor of Management and Entrepreneurship at the School of Business Administration Fribourg, Rico J. Baldegger directs the Entrepreneurship & SME Institute and acts as aca-demic coordinator of the Master in Entrepreneurship. He graduated from the University of St Gallen and obtained his doctorate from the University of Fribourg. He is the author of numerous publications on entrepreneurship, internationalization of SMEs and the reor-ganization of family businesses. Moreover, he is a serial entrepreneur, as is demonstrated by the many companies he has created.

INTERNATIONALTEAM

LOUIS JACQUES FILION Visionary and Entrepreneurial ThinkingLouis Jacques Filion is the Rogers-J.A. Professor of Entrepreneurship at HEC MONTREAL, the Montreal Business School. His specialty area is entrepreneurship. His academic back-ground includes a B.A. (Classics) from St-Laurent College (University of Montreal) (1966), a B.A. (Honours) in Political Science from the University of Ottawa (1968), an M.A. in Interna-tional Studies from the University of Ottawa (1974), an M.B.A. from H.E.C. Montreal (1976) and a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship and Systems from the University of Lancaster, Great Britain (1988). Dr. Filion’s broad professional experience in entrepreneurship and manage-ment includes the fields of human resources, operations management and marketing. He has created and managed small businesses. In 2004, he received the Lifetime Achieve-ment Award from the Canadian Council of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (CCSBE - CCPME) for his contribution to the field of entrepreneurship. In 2008 he received the prestigious Entrepreneurship Promotion Emeritus Award in recognition of his career-long commitment to the promotion of an entrepreneurial culture among young people.

ELMAR MOCKInnovation & CreativityElmar Mock is an engineer in microtechnology at the Higher Technical School of Bienne. He was, with Jacques Müller, co-inventor of the Swatch watch, under the direction of Ernst Thomke in the late 1970s, before founding his own engineering and technical con-sultation company in Biel called “Creaholic” in 1986. For over 20 years, a team of innova-tors, thinkers, designers, prototype makers and technologists has generated ideas and worked hard to turn them into successful commercial realities. Creaholic has completed over 600 projects for dozens of companies, created several spin-offs and generated over 150 patents in various fields.

JEROME SCHAUFELDTechnological EntrepreneurMr. Schaufeld’s wealth of experience in entrepreneurship, operations and general man-agement of technology-based companies ranges from his current role as Professor of Entrepreneurship at WPI to an assignment as a commercialization consultant at the Children’s Hospital in Boston. He served as Director of the RI Slater Fund, former President and CEO of Mass Ventures and has a “hands on” track record in several early stage com-panies that ranges from functional to board-level advisory roles. He was co-founder of a venture capital-funded, technology-based company called Phoenix Controls Corporation. He also founded the Incus Group which is a CEO-level business acquisition and resource organization.

GREGORY GERHARDT Entrepreneurial Marketing Gregory is co-founder and CEO of Amazee Labs, a Zurich-domiciled web development company. Before he was swallowed by the web industry, he studied law and worked for Marketing Professor Dr. Manfred Bruhn at the University of Basel, followed by some years in management support at Bank Julius Baer. With this background, he knows how to translate the fiercest business challenges into simple solutions - be it in marketing or web development. Fun fact: Gregory loves windsurfing, paragliding and trekking, the further out, the better.

CHRISTOPHE SCHMITTBusiness IdeasMr. Schimtt holds the chair of Entrepreneurship at the University of Lorraine. He works in the field of student entrepreneurial culture development. He developed tools and methods such as IDéO in order to evaluate the potential of business opportunities. He has also written several articles and published books about entrepreneurship. His lat-est book deals with the notion of value of products and services in SMEs.

EDMILSON LIMAEdmilson Lima (Dr) is associate professor in the Master’s and Doctoral Program in Admin-istration and also professor in the Professional Master’s Program in Sports Management at Universidade Nove de Julho - UNINOVE in São Paulo, Brazil. He is founder and coordinator of the Grupo APOE (Research Group on Administration of Small Organizations and Entre-preneurship) at UNINOVE and a researcher member of the Rogers - J.A. Bombardier Chair of Entrepreneurship, at HEC Montreal, Canada. He is general secretary and cofounder of the ANEGEPE (Brazilian Association for Research on Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management) and vice-president for Brazil of the AIREPME (International Association for Research on Entrepreneurship and Small Business, based in France).

HEG FRIBOURGThe School of Business Administration Fribourg was founded in 1991. It is part of the network of the University of Applied Science Western Switzerland (HES-SO), as are the schools of Geneva, Laus-anne/Yverdon, Neuchâtel and Sion. A total of more than 16,000 students attend courses in all areas.The HEG of Fribourg, which specializes in the domain of management, off ers all types of recognized courses, such as BAs in Business and MScs in Business Administration, with a major in Entrepreneurship. It also off ers an EMBA in Integrated Management, as well as various other types of postgraduate courses in environmental studies, public management and communication. THE CITYThe city of Fribourg (in French) and Freiburg (in German) is the bilingual capital of the Swiss Canton of Fri-bourg and the district of Sarine . It is located on the banks of the River Sarine / Saane on the Swiss plateau, and is an important economic, administrative, and educational center on the cultural border between the German- and French-speaking regions of Switzerland. Fribourg is known for its cultural plurality, its university and its gastronomy. The increasing number of students living in Fribourg has also had an invigorating eff ect on its cultural and artistic off ering as well as its night life. Fribourg is especially popular with students: its bilingualism (French and German) present a major plus for students keen on picking up an additional language. Besides, Fribourg serves as a link between the German- and French-speaking regions of Switzerland which is clearly in its culture.

TRANSPORTThe Swiss railway network extends over 20,300 km (12,600 miles), not including an additional 2,000 (1,240 miles) of private railways. Its public transportation system belongs to the best worldwide as it integrates train, bus and boat travel seamlessly and offers high levels of comfort.

ACCOMMODATIONYou will be lodged at the Notre-Dame de la Route training centre in Villars-sur-Glâne for the entire duration of the course. The centre offers attractive, singe rooms complete with sinks. Showers and toilets are shared on each floor.

Breakfast is included.

The centre enjoys a perfect location: surrounded by greenery, it is just 15 minutes by bus from the School of Business Administration where the summer school program is held.

The price of CHF 3’100 includes accomodation.
