SUMMER SCHOOL GENERAL INFORMATION

Who can participate? Any student who resides in the School District of La Crosse attendance area may enroll in our summer school program at no charge. Students residing outside the school district boundaries are welcome to attend for a fee. Please call 789-8955 for more information.

Behavior Communication Plan Summer School is a time for students to extend their learning. Negative behaviors disrupt the learning environment for all students. We expect that all students follow behavior guidelines established by the school and classroom. Our goal is to do all we can to work with students; unfortunately we may need to dismiss a student due to significant and/or on-going inappropriate behaviors. Below is a general guideline for the Summer School Behavior Communication Plan.

1) If a student is disruptive to the classroom setting a contact will be made to inform adults at home of the disruption and ask for assistance.

2) If student behavior does not change a second call will be made to inform adults at home of the

continued disruption by the building principal or summer school supervisor. 3) If student behavior still does not change the student

may be dismissed from the Summer School class.

Grade Level Please note! All courses are not alike! “Most” enrichment courses are listed reflecting the grade the student will be in for 2015-2016. Grade levels are clearly articulated and may be different for each course.

TRANSPORTATION The School District of La Crosse will provide a limited bus schedule, only for students participating in these four-week, four hours per day programs: Reading & Math, Kindercapers, PreSchool Pals, and Coulee Montessori Programs. Please see the bus routes and their “COURSE NUMBERS” listed in this brochure on pages 28-29. Students enrolled in all other programs will need to provide their own transportation. HPL Summer Symposium

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This summer the High Performance Learning (HPL) program is excited to offer a variety of courses with a strong

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) focus for our Summer Symposium. The courses are

designed to address high-level thinking, problem solving and academic rigor. We encourage any student that is

interested in exploring topics in which they have strong ability or interest to participate. You do not need to be in the

HPL program. It is expected that all students will come prepared to have fun and work hard!

Once again we are offering a math course that is open by invitation only for those students who will be subject-level

accelerated in the area of math at the middle school level in the upcoming school year. This course will address

curricular gaps that might occur when a grade level is skipped. Your child’s HPL specialist will be in contact with you

in late March if he or she is a candidate for acceleration.

HPL classes are designed to challenge and motivate students. The symposium will run from 8:00 until 12:00 noon,

Monday through Thursday for 3 weeks in July beginning July 6th and running through July 23rd. Sign up for 1 class or

create a full schedule through choosing numerous offerings. Grade levels vary for courses with all courses being held at

Lincoln Middle School.

We are thrilled to also offer a unique music and art course entitled, “Ready, Set Design, Show” for students that will be

completing grades 2-5. The class will address the visual, musical and theatre arts and will run in the afternoons from

1:00-4:30 in the Lincoln Middle School Theater. It will culminate in a public performance for the community.

In addition, our environmental course is a great way to building leadership skills in our 4th through 7th grade students

from any elementary or middle school. This 2-week outdoor environmental course will partner with Myrick Park Center

and provide students with an opportunity to learn how to make a difference in our local community. Many outdoor

activities will be provided. This course will meet for 8 mornings, July 27-July 30th and August 3-6th at the Myrick Park

Center from 8:00 a.m. until noon.

Enrollment is limited this year to 20-25 students per class. Be sure to sign up early to get your first choices.

We understand that vacations, camps and summer activities sometimes arise after you have already enrolled your child.

If you find that your child is unable to attend a class, we request that you call the summer school office (789-8955) to

have your child removed so that space becomes available for other students. We appreciate your attention to this.

Helping our students be the best they can be!
