The teams met once before during the regular season with a three-game series in Clinton during the second half. Clinton took the first two games of the series before dropping the finale but won the series two games to one. The two teams have meet in the Midwest League Championship Series once before in 1993. The Clinton Championship appearance ended in a three games to one loss which came just two years after their 1991 title runs. The two teams have been playing each other since 1988 with the South Bend Cubs leading the head-to-head meetings 91 games to 106. LumberKings Starter: Remey Reed, 24, made nine appearance and starts during the regular season for the Clinton LumberKings and this will be his second postseason outing of the current run. The Plano Texas native, took the ball for Clinton in their first postseason game. Reed worked against the Kane County Cougars in Game One of the Semi-Final Divisional round in Clinton. He was given a no decision in an eventual 7-3 LumberKings win. Over five innings of work he allowed three runs, all on a home run to Zack Shannon, on six hits while walking one and striking out three. Reed was not with the LumberKings when they faced South Bend in May and this will be his first outing of the year and of his professional career against a Cuba affiliate. The Miami Marlins drafted him in the 6th round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Oklahoma State University. While at OSU, Reed double majored in economics and educational social studies. He began pitching collegiately in the junior college ranks with Navarro College before transferring to OSU in 2015. Reed is close with former LumberKing Tyler Kolek who rehabbed with him in Jupiter over the last few seasons. They teemed-up while rehabbing to build a seaworthy popsicle stick pirate ship complete with motor and cannon. Cubs Starter: Kendall Graveman, 28, makes just his third appearance and start of the season, and first postseason start for the South Bend Cubs. The Alexander City, Alabama native, is on a Major League rehab assignment but had appeared in just two game during the regular season before making a postseason outing with the Iowa Cubs on September 6 th . The assignment was his most recent and ended with a no decision after 3.2 innings of work allowing no runs on just one hit while walking one and striking out five. Graveman last pitched in the Major Leagues in 2018 with the Oakland Athletics. The Cubs signed him as a free agent on December 23 rd but underwent Tommy John surgery on February 13 th which he is currently rehabbing in South Bend. Originally drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 8 th round of the 2013 draft, Gravemen began his professional career in the Midwest League with the Lansing Lugnuts. He became an Oakland Athletic as one of the five-players involved in the Jos Donaldson trade on November 28 th , 2014. Award Winners: Following Sundays win over the Peoria Chiefs on the final day of the regular season, the Clinton LumberKings were front and center when it came to Midwest League Awards. Peyton Burdick was tabbed as the Uncle Rays Midwest League Player of the Month for August to become the first LumberKing since 2016 to win the award. In addition, Remey Reed took home Pitcher of the Week honors to close out the regular season after six perfect innings of work in Burlington on August 29 th . 2019 is the first season since 2016 that Clinton has won three players of the week in the year. Its Been Awhile: After ending a playoff drought that went back to 2016, the Clinton LumberKings will now try to end their longest active drought. Clinton owns the longest active championship drought in the Midwest League having not won a league title since 1991 when they were known as the Clinton Giants. In total, they have won two Midwest League Championships, in 1963 when they won both halves and did not need a playoff and 1991 over the now defunct Madison Muskies. How the West Was Won: The Clinton LumberKings are back in the Midwest League Championship Series for the eighth time in franchise history. Clinton swept their way into the Western Division Championship Series with two straight wins against the Kane County Cougars. Then met the Cedar Rapids Kernels and did something they had done just once before in club history. They won game one, dropped game two, and came back and won the third and decisive game to take the series. The only time Clinton had won a series in that way was 1998. This Date in Baseball History: On this date in 2004, as 36,887 Bank One Ballpark fans hope to see Barry Bonds hit his 699th and perhaps 700th career homer, they watch the Giant left fielder reach a different milestone. The Giantsslugger receives three walks from Arizona pitchers to break his own record and becomes the first big leaguer to walk over 200 times in a season. Today’s Preview: The LumberKings (A, Marlins) return to the Midwest League Championship

Series for the eighth time in franchise history and the third time over the last ten seasons, meeting the South Bend Cubs (A, Cubs) for the second time in the postseason. The teams met once before

during the regular season with a three-game series in Clinton during the second half. Clinton took

the first two games of the series before dropping the finale but won the series two games to one.

The two teams have meet in the Midwest League Championship Series once before in 1993. The

Clinton Championship appearance ended in a three games to one loss which came just two years

after their 1991 title runs. The two teams have been playing each other since 1988 with the South

Bend Cubs leading the head-to-head meetings 91 games to 106.

LumberKings Starter: Remey Reed, 24, made nine appearance and starts during the regular

season for the Clinton LumberKings and this will be his second postseason outing of the current

run. The Plano Texas native, took the ball for Clinton in their first postseason game. Reed worked against the Kane County Cougars in Game One of the Semi-Final Divisional round in

Clinton. He was given a no decision in an eventual 7-3 LumberKings win. Over five innings of

work he allowed three runs, all on a home run to Zack Shannon, on six hits while walking one

and striking out three. Reed was not with the LumberKings when they faced South Bend in May

and this will be his first outing of the year and of his professional career against a Cuba affiliate.

The Miami Marlins drafted him in the 6th round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Oklahoma State

University. While at OSU, Reed double majored in economics and educational social studies. He

began pitching collegiately in the junior college ranks with Navarro College before transferring to OSU in 2015. Reed is close with former LumberKing Tyler Kolek who rehabbed with him in

Jupiter over the last few seasons. They teemed-up while rehabbing to build a seaworthy popsicle

stick pirate ship complete with motor and cannon.

Cubs Starter: Kendall Graveman, 28, makes just his third appearance and start of the season, and

first postseason start for the South Bend Cubs. The Alexander City, Alabama native, is on a Major

League rehab assignment but had appeared in just two game during the regular season before

making a postseason outing with the Iowa Cubs on September 6th. The assignment was his most recent and ended with a no decision after 3.2 innings of work allowing no runs on just one hit

while walking one and striking out five. Graveman last pitched in the Major Leagues in 2018 with

the Oakland Athletics. The Cubs signed him as a free agent on December 23rd but underwent
