The LumberKings have played the Snappers tough this season but have not in faced them in Clinton since April 22 nd through the 24 th . Over their 12 head-to-head meetings this season Clinton has won nine with three losses. The two teams have been playing each other 1982 with Beloit leading the all-time series 235 games to 269 games. LumberKings Starter: Jake Walters, 23, makes his 14 th appearance and 11 th start of the season for the Clinton LumberKings. The Brandon Mississippi native, earned his third straight win his last time out for a six-inning outing against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Perfect Game Field. He allowed just one run on four hits while walking one and striking out five. This will be his third assignment of the year against Beloit. Thus far, he has combined to go 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA over 7.2 innings three hits allowed while walking three and striking out 11. After being drafted by the Marlins in the 9th round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of the University of Alabama an MRI was taken that led the Marlins to take a cautious approach to his work load. Walters was then shutdown following his selection and did not make his pro debut until he arrived in Clinton. Snappers Starter: Chase Cohen, 22, makes his 22 nd appearance and 17 th stat of the season for the Beloit Snappers. The Alpharetta Georgia native, was given a no decision his last time out for a 2.2 inning outing against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Pohlman Field. He allowed one run on four hits while walking two and striking out seven. This will be his second outing of the season against Clinton. Cohen had faced the LumberKings July 2 nd in Beloit and was hung with the loss for a four-inning outing in which he allowed one run on four hits while walking one and striking out five. The Oakland Athletics selected him in the ninth round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of Georgia Southern University. Played two sports in high school baseball and diving. A Run Short: After leading for much of the game on Saturday, the LumberKings fell behind by three heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. Clinton then rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth but fell a run short with the tying run left on at second. The loss is Clinton’s 27 th defeat of the season to come after they held a lead at one point. A Rarity: Clinton pitching on Saturday night struggled against Snappers hitters as they only turned in one 1-2-3 inning. The Beloit offense has been a recent theme for a struggling offense. Despite their seven runs on Saturday night, the Snappers still rank last in the Midwest League for runs scored (426) but have scored seven runs or more three times over their last eight games. Prior to their offensive success, the Snappers last scored more than seven runs in a game in a July 11 th win over Bowling Green. Everyone Digs the Longball: Even though Clinton fell a run short on Saturday night, the game feature more power from the LumberKings. Evan Edwards and Christopher Torres each homered in the 7-6 loss with Clinton now having slugged five home runs over their last three games. As a team, the LumberKings have hit 77 home runs – fifth most in the league. Hit Parade: Saturday’s game was one that featured lots and lots of hits. Beloit registered 14 hits on the night with Clinton just behind with 13 to bring the game’s total to 27 hits. J.D.
