High lights of World Space Week Celebration-2016 at VSSE (SAC)

World Space Week-2016 at Vikram Sarabhai Space Exhibition has witnessed large number of Space enthusiasts, more than 10,000 visitors of all age-groups and various sections of the society. Several competitions and special events were organized as a part of World Space Week celebrations during 4-10 October, 2016.

Satellite Model Making competition- First day 4th October for students of Class VII-VIII. About 75 students from different schools across the city enthusiastically participated and won prizes.

Colouring/drawing and Painting competitions- 5th October, which received a good

participation of about 80 children of class I-V.

Space Quiz organized for students of class IX-XII. About 35 students from 15 schools across Ahmedabad participated and won prizes.

Students Workshop on Remote Sensing for Undergraduate students witnessed

participation of 35 young ignited minds on 7th October.

On Saturday, 8th October, teachers from schools and colleges got opportunity to interact with our Scientists/Engineers and learn more about Satellite communication and SAC initiatives towards training. This event drew special interest with participation of 36 teachers from colleges of Vallabh Vidyanagar, Baroda and Anand besides local schools and colleges.

Space Antakshiri organized on Sunday 9th October was an interesting attempt to

invoke Space enthusiasts towards Space vocabulary. About 50 participants including students and parents enjoyed and won prizes.

Popular lectures organized on Sunday included talks on ‘Weather Forecasting’ by Dr.

C.M. Kishtwal, MOSADAC by Mr. D.K. Patel, VEDAS by Shri Shashikant Sharma.

Event of Elocution by young Scientists on Future Remote Sensing was conducted followed by Valedictory Function Chaired by AD,SAC on 10th October.

Special Invited Groups visits during WSW: About 60 Divyang students from Utahan Sewa Trust and 6 students of Sadvichar

parivar 80 physically challenged students of Sadvichar Parivar, Uvarsad 65 students of Blind People Association 3 groups – 22 deaf and dumb, 24 blind students, and 18 physically challenged of

Apang Manav Mandal Technical institute 125 Underprivileged children of IQRA trust SAC/DECU Retired employees – 80 CISF, PRL and SAC families Young Scientists/Engineers of SAC and DECU. Fist day Director SAC briefing to print and electronic media personnel.

About 65 schools, colleges and Universities were personally approached and invited by VSSE team members. Calendars of satellite models, model making kit, stickers of NAVIC, a booklet on life and vision of Dr. Sarabhai were distributed to all visitors. Besides prizes, pens were also distributed to all participants. Every day refreshments arranged for each event participants. Transport and snacks arranged for all special invitees.
