A. ABOUT THE WEEK

GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK or THE WEEK which will be held from November 17-23, 2008 will be the world’s largest event to celebrate and promote innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity.

The Week is aimed at young people throughout the globe.

During the Week, partner organizations worldwide will conduct a range of activities - from simple speeches to comprehensive competitions - designed to inspire, connect, inform, mentor and engage the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Host organizations in each participating country are recruiting partners and coordinating related activities.

The exact type of these activities, whether online or face-to-face, is limited only by the imaginations of the partners and the participants. And while a list of suggested activities such as invention competitions, entrepreneurship film festivals, networking events, school-based activities, and local entrepreneurship summits - will be available on the website, www.unleashingideas.org , the actual activities conducted by partners will vary greatly.

And while it may be global in scope, at its heart, the Week is a local initiative that reflects the customs and entrepreneurial culture of each community.

B. BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON HOW THE WEEK CAME ABOUT

Global Entrepreneurship Week is a combination and expansion of two successful initiatives, the debut of Entrepreneurship Week USA in 2007 and the inspiration behind it, Enterprise Week in the UK, which was kicked off in 2004 by now-Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

During the last year, these two efforts - led by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation in the US and the Make Your Mark campaign in the UK - combined to engage 2,720 partner organizations planning 6,891 activities that directly involved 929,449 individuals.

Thousands of pieces of media coverage amplified the message, reaching tens of millions.

C. VISION FOR THE WEEK

For one week, millions of young people around the world will join a growing movement of entrepreneurial people to generate new ideas and to seek better ways of doing things.

Dozens of countries are coming together for the first time to host THE WEEK - an initiative to inspire young people to embrace innovation, imagination and creativity.

Today, entrepreneurial individuals appear from all walks of life to exploit business opportunities for both economic and social gains.

From November 17 - 23, 2008, THE WEEK will connect young people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators.

Students, educators, entrepreneurs, business leaders, employees, non-profit leaders, government officials and many others will participate in a range of activities - online and face-to-face - to harness the energy of social networking, to connect people taking action in their local and global communities and to celebrate entrepreneurship across the globe.

Overall, the Week will tap into a culture with a passion for networking. It will blend into the fabric of everyday life, engaging young people in school, at home, on the web and at work.

Through this initiative, the next generation of entrepreneurs will be inspired and emerge.

In doing so, they will begin to acquire the knowledge, skills, networks and values needed to grow innovative, sustainable enterprises that have a positive impact on their lives and the lives of those around them.

D. OBJECTIVES OF THE WEEK

This campaign has 5 key objectives:

4

Page 5: The Week Malaysia Brief

Inspire

Introduce the notion of enterprising behaviour to as many young people under the age of 30 who otherwise might not have considered it as a path in their life

Connect

Network young people across national boundaries in a global effort to find new ideas at the intersection of cultures and disciplines.

Inform

Demonstrate that the drive to nurture enterprising talent needs business, education, government, voluntary organisations and the media to work together.

No single sector or organisation working in isolation can create opportunities on this ambitious scale

Mentor

Enlist active and inspirational entrepreneurs around the world to coach and mentor the next generation of enterprise talent as they pursue their entrepreneurial dreams

Engage

To inform opinion leaders and policy makers that entrepreneurship is central to a nation's economic health and culture and to provide different nations with the opportunity to learn from each other on entrepreneurial policy and practice.

E. WARISAN GLOBAL SDN.BHD: MALAYSIAN HOST

THE WEEK coordinates Global activities via their local country Hosts. Each participating country will have its own Hosts.

Page 6: The Week Malaysia Brief

Host organizations in each participating country serve as the coordinating entity for THE WEEK and all related activities in that country.

Warisan Global Sdn. Bhd. (WG) is honoured to be awarded the organization of THE WEEK in Malaysia by the Kaufmann Foundation and Make Your Mark, UK.

WG is a Malaysian company founded in the year 2000 by an entrepreneur.

We are probably the only social enterprise in Malaysia.

Social enterprises are profit-making businesses with a Social and Environmental focus.

Many commercial businesses have social objectives, but social enterprises are distinctive because their social or environmental purpose is central to what they do.

Rather than maximizing only shareholder value, their main aim is also to generate profit to further their social and environmental goals.

Social Enterprises are organizations with a distinct business concept - they offer the prospect of a greater equity of economic power and a more sustainable society - by combining market efficiency with social and environmental justice.

At WG – we focus on projects that advance the spirit of the enterprise and social entrepreneurship.

Our projects span the entire Nation.

We work with Government organizations and some large Malaysian businesses to create and project-manage initiatives that benefit many different strata of the society – from rural communities to university youth.

We are a Ministry of Finance, Malaysia registered company. We are also a partner organization with telecentre.org – a Global organization that promotes grassroots entrepreneurship.

We also work with the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (CfEL), the Judge School of Business, Cambridge University to deliver their entrepreneurship programs in Malaysia.
