S3<r\$h& News Journal of the Buddhist Meditation Society of Northern British Columbia SUMMER 1999 Volume III Number 3 Breezing through Ngondro on Canada Day Long-time members as well a s a few people new to the sangha spent Canada Day with L a m a I n g e f o r a b r i s k i n t r o d u c t i o n t o t h e Dudjom T e r s a r N g o n d r o practice. The p r e v i o u s w e e k I n g e j o i n e d us ' " i n c o g n i t o " i n o u r dharma centre for the Monday night sit on her way to spend a few days with t h e W h i t e h o r s e sangha, then returned for the one-day teaching b e f o r e r u s h i n g s o u t h a g a i n . The rain and mosquitoes kept us inside and applying ourselves to the practice at our little "retreat centre" - M a r y ' s h o m e - a t Cluculz L a k e . W e e n j o y e d a l u n c h t o g e t h e r b e t w e e n m o r n i n g a n d afternoon teaching sessions and were able to make it back to Prince George by suppertime. T h e s e p r e l i m i n a r y (ngondro is t h e T i b e t a n w o r d ) p r a c t i c e s are a v e r y c o n c i s e v e r s i o n g i v e n b y H i s H o l i n e s s D u d j o m R i n p o c h e . They a r e c o m p r i s e d o f s e v e r a l i n d i v i d u a l p r a c t i c e s , e a c h with rich visualizations, verses and mantras. The practices and a c c u m u l a t i o n s , p r o p e r l y d o n e , t a k e a few years to accomplish, so we h a v e c o m e a w a y from one short day of teaching with a l o t t o work on! Most likely it will be some t i m e b e f o r e Lama Inge is able to visit again (she told us it was our turn to visit her\), but we will be in touch with o t h e r C h a g d u d Gonpa lamas w h o m i g h t c o m e to Prince George to give us more teachings. DANA (generosity) is intrinsic to the 2,500 year old tradition of Buddha Dharma. Going back to the days of the Buddha, the teachings were considered priceless and thus offered freely. Teacher support comes from the voluntary contributions

of students. The registration fee covers cost of advertising the retreat, room rental, meals and the teacher's travel expense. Cash contributions to Eshin for the teaching will be accepted at the end of the retreat.

OUR POLICY IS THAT NO ONE W I L L BE REFUSED REGISTRATION IFTHE RETREAT FEES WOULD CAUSE FINANCIAL HARDSHIP.
