Any giant red cup o beer, that is lled rom a homemadeice-chest style beer tap, has to be the most sanitary cup obeer you will ever have. The beer in a Deli red cup transcendsthe boundaries o a traditional Oklahoma 3.2 beer. You said yoursel that big red cups are the best. O course they are sanitary...they are the best!

A simple search for my Facebook pro le and a look through my photo albums will tell you that I am in fact an indepen-dent. Am I always proud of this little tid bit of information? That is a di cult question to answer. When my frat friendsstart telling me another college story you would never tell your parents I wont lie, I get a little jealous. There is no

denying the bene ts of joining a Greek association, especially here at OU where Greek life is so prevalent. Building life-long relationships, working together on community and national causes and meeting new friends are just a few posi-tives connected with Greek life. I enjoyed my freedom though too. No chapter meetings, grade requirements, dues ormoving in and out every semester. Over all, I think the Greek system o ers many positives with an exciting college sociallife reigning at the top of my list.Just because I am an independent doesnt mean I never attended any Greek-related parties that make for a good story.

Imagine you are in the beer pong room getting ready to slam back a Keystone and take on the house champ, who canteven see straight, but manages to sink ve cups in a row every time. Imagine that a really attractive girl, claiming to betotally sober, runs into the beer pong room, changes the iTunes song to Good Feeling by Flo Rida and turns the volumeup as high as it will go so she can dance. Its about 30 seconds before three more really attractive girls run into the roomscreaming This is my song! all dancing on each other like something out of a Britney Spears video (a video from herprime of course). Imagine you dont just stand there with your mouth open. You slam that Keystone back, walk over, easeinto the awesomeness taking place right in front of you and begin to get your dance on. One thing remains true, Greek

or independent, everybody loves a good party.

If you havent been living under a rock for the last few years and know anything about comput-ers, youve probably heard o Reddit. The sel -described ront page o the internet, Redditis probably best described as a content farm, aplace where anyone can post or generate new

content, and people can up-vote or down-vote thecontent at their discretion, a sort o social news site, for lack of a better term.Founded in 2005 by two graduates of the Univer-

sity of Virginia, Reddit took o rapidly, drawing theattention of Cond Nast, a major publisher famous

for magazines such asVanity Fair andWired . Thepublisher acquired Reddit in 2006, and while Red-dit split from Cond Nast in 2011, the site, run by apermanent sta of only ten people, is still o ciallyowned by its parent company, and its success andimpact has not diminished--if anything, its onlyincreased.Content on Reddit can range from the silly to

the serious: there are plenty o unny pictures andstories, countless memes and stories that can makeyou shake your head. There are plenty o subtop-ics to list content under, including pics, gaming,WTF, music, science and aww, which tends togear towards the more heartwarming stories thathelp to restore some of the faith in humanity thatthe cynical internet population may have lost.Regarding public gures and celebrities, Reddit hasbecome big enough that it can secure more famouspeople, particularly the internet-savvy celebrities,to do interviews and Q&A segments, referred to asIAmA on the site, though that feature is not justlimited to famous people. Notable celebrities thathave done IAmAs include Jeopardy! legend and74-time winner Ken Jennings, comedian Louis C.K.,movie critic Roger Ebert, former Congressman Anthony Weiner and comedian/faux-news hostStephen Colbert.

Speaking of Colbert, Reddits users were actually somewhat involved in the crto Restore Sanity and/or Fear. In September of 2010, before the rally was publi

Colbert, Jon Stewart and the rest of the Comedysta , the idea for a Restoring Truthiness Rally hbounced around Reddit as well. One Redditor wrote, would be the high water mark of American satiremillion people pretending to suspend all rational tin unison. Perfect harmony. Itll feel like San Frathe late 60s, only we wont be able to get any acid. WStewart said that the rally had been planned sin

summer, Colbert added that, I have no doubt the orts to organize and the joy you clearly brought part o the story contributed greatly to the turnout asuccess. Contrary to whatever bullshit quotes yohave heard in the bullshit press.Reddits impact beyond the Web is just beginnin

realized. Along with Wikipedia, Reddit was the linthe January 18 blackout protests against SOPA anThese protests and the coverage of them convincepoliticians that had previously supported these meto withdraw their support. The mass consciousness thatReddit represents is an interest-ing thing to study. Its designis simplistic, which prob-ably helps the accessibil-ity o the site and thecapability to use it as in or-mation. Its relatively openview on what constitutesspeech helps to perhaps cre-ate a more open medium, and serve as a secondaryvessel or news. O course,

there is still that one uno cial corollary or the site, as with therest o the internet as a whole: do not eed the trolls.

    >> The rst video game I ever owned. My parents boughtme a Super Nintendo back in 1994 with this game bundled withit. It helped to fashion my fascination with gaming, cultivatea long loyalty to Nintendo and began an era o sorts. I down-loaded this on the Wii, and it still feels like the same game it didbefore. Some old games, particularly the early 64-bit games onthe original PlayStation and the Nintendo 64, didnt age well, but this one holds both the nostalgia factor and looks just ascolor ul and entertaining as it did when I was in kindergarten. Its de nitely got a challenge to it in the later levels, but its stillun. A Tale o Two CitiesIlisten exclusively to local music. Ive never heard of bandslike Wilco or Katy Perry, and who is RuPaul McCartney? ForMel Guapo, music starts in Norman. It goes as far as OKCand Tulsa, but usually stops at the Oklahoma border. Usu-ally, but not always.Over the years a sister-city bond has formed between cer-

tain pockets of the musical minds of Norman and Fort Worth.Think of Fort Worth as the Bordeaux of music. Only instead of OU sharing resources with Clermont-Ferrand, its BlackwatchStudios collaborating with Spaceway. One of the shining and distinct achievements of this col-

laboration is the Burning Hotels recent sel -titled release. WillHuntthe man behind Spaceway Studios in Fort Worth joined forces with Blackwatchs Chad Copelin to produce andmixBurning Hotels.

Chance Morgan and Matt Mooty have played together as the

Burning Hotels for years now and remain the primary forcebehind the band.Burning Hotels, their sophomore LP, was re-leased independently four months ago.Its a collection of dreamy, synth-based pop tunes. It sounds

like late nights and falling in love. Its dance hooks born fromthe boredom of youth. It melts in your ears. It melts your ears.I spoke with Chance Morgan recently to ask him some ques-

    tions.

MG:How would you describe the Burning Hotels in threewords?

CM: I would only use two words, Sex Wave. Mark Shectman, the on air host o the Local Edge on 102.1 KDGE in Dallas, dubbed us wth this moniker. I am really awkward when asked,What does your band sound like? Its a very broad question. Somany things go into being a band, so I really avoid this question.

MG:As a control question, how would you describe NiagaraFalls in three words?

CM: I would choose to use our words, Maid o the Mist.

MG:How would you describe Norman in three words?CM: James Garner Corridor. I love James Garner and his cor-

    ridor.

MG:What is the dynamic of the band like? Is it primarilyyoursel and Matt? I know youve had a recent lineup change.

CM: Matt and I write all o the music and lyrics. It has alwaysbeen this way, but in the past we took more input rom the othermembers. With our last release,Burning Hotels , we demoedthe entire record in my home and programmed all the parts. We went into Will Hunts home studio and re-recorded the re-cord with Chad Copelin engineering and co-producing. Will andChad played drums and bass along with our bass player, MarleyWhistler. We have a ull-time drummer and longtime riend

Mikey Ratli playing drums live with us.MG:In brie , how would you describe the genesis o Burn-

ing Hotels? What kind of transformations has the band beenthrough since its formation?

CM: Matt and I have been best riends since 4th grade. MyDad coached our YMCA soccer team. We were in band togetherin middle school and high school and started playing music to- gether in high school. We started making music inspired by the post punk movement the resur aced in early 2000s. The Rakes,Bloc Party, French Kicks, etc. We have kind o shi ted towardsa more laid-back approach since then and updated our sound. Some people have been re erring to our sound as being cin-ematic or nostalgic.

MG:What is life like in the Fort Worth music scene?CM: Its a healthy community. All the bands get along and

support each other. We dont really t sonically with the rest othe city. Its a lot o Americana, Folk, Rock and Roll Revival type stu . We have a lot o talented people in our city and are happyto be a part o it.

MG:Describe the Burning Hotels in four words.CM: Matt Mooty Chance Morgan

MG:What are all the ways that Norman is the best?CM:Blackwatch Studios, The Diner, Blu, The Mont, Sophie. We

recorded at Blackwatch and it is like a second home; when we play in town we always crash there. We ate at the Diner everymorning when we recorded there. Blu is the bar we nished ournights at ...Always good scenery at that place. The Mont serves

the cheapest and strongest drinks in Norman, so thats a plus. Sophie is Chads dog (one o the owners o Blackwatch Studios)and mascot o Blackwatch; she makes you eel at home.

MG:What motivates you the most to write music? Pleasure?Desperation? Other music? Literature? People? For instance,Italian food inspires me to have diarrhea. I eat it, and then 40minutes later I have to nd a toilet before I burst. What kindo things inspire you to have to run to a piano or a guitar or amicrophone before you burst?

CM: I write music o necessity. I have ound that it is the easi-est creative outlet that I can let me eelings show through. Mosto the music that I create is based rom relationships or personexperiences. I like it because it is a time line that documents myli e. I can remember a time based on a song or a line that I hadwritten, its kind o therapeutic. I also am inspired by images. Irequent a lot o blogs that just show ound images. One o myavorites is Yimmy Yayo, he describes his blogs as, Visual crackor the ocular end. Imagery can take you to a di erent time o

    place just like music.

MG:Burning Hotelswhere does that come from?CM: When Matt and I were in high school we would drive

to Dallas to see all the touring bands that we liked. We wouldtake what we would call, the scenic route and go throughdowntown Dallas because it made us eel like we were in a met-ropolitan city. On the way to Deep Ellum, where all the showshappened, we would pass this old abandoned art deco hotel, called the Dallas Grand Hotel. It always ascinated us becausethe lights were always on and there was urniture in the lobby, but never a person inside or years. One day, we drove by and thelights were out and that night Matt dreamt that it had burneddown, alas Burning Hotels.

MG:Describe the Burning Hotels in a hand gesture.CM: I you mix the Hand Jive and the Macarena, that is prettyclose.

MG:Have you ever considered moving to Norman?CM: I have. Two o my closest riends, Derek Knowlton and

Travis Pickett, who own Warpaint Clothing in OKC and then theBlackwatch crew have always made me want to be in Okla-homa. I dont think that I would want a permanent move, but Ihave thought o subletting a place or three months to just workout o a di erent city.

MG:Where does your music start? A guitar? A keyboard? Adrum machine? Is it all in your mind? Is it in your heart? YouriPhone?

CM: Each song starts in a di erent place. I started wrimusic only on guitar; since then I have been working inand Pro Tools more, so it has been on a keyboard. I havwished that I had taken piano lessons because I am horribI can use a keyboard. I either start with a bass line or jua drum beat and create rom there. Melody and lyrics uscome last.

MG:What would you say is/are the overarching tho Burning Hotels?

CM: Love and Death. Since we started writing, Matt andhave always been interested in the dichotomy between lodeath. Mortality also plays a big actor. We are both 26old and born eight days apart, so we eel this weird connI eel like with the last record I was writing about how tout what love is and Matt was writing about how to ma

work. We have shared most o our adult li e experiences toer and we are still in two completely di erent places. Wend a way to easily connect our individual content.

MG:What were some of the discoveries you madeyourself or your art from this record? During the marecord, were there any ideaswhether about music something somehow related to the whole processgot excited about?

CM: I had a couple things appear to me that made see thin a di erent way. Matt and I recorded around two days aor three months in my house. Each week we would trynew ideas and songs, some days were good and somewere bad. A ter we were nishing the rst track, SoundI looked over at the end o this song we had created toand was looking at my childhood best riend. The processfuid and our ideas ended up being so cohesive that nowremember which one o us wrote what part. I eel very ortto have a creative counterpart that I am connected with.

MG:Do you have any favorite places in Norman?CM: See answer above.

MG:Did you apply for Norman Music Festival thisCM: Yes, we will most likely be playing the Blackwatch

Hope ully this year the lighting sca olding will not comid-set. Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping do plains ...

MG:Are you a reader?CM: I would like to say yes or appearance sake, but I am

o an article kind o guy than a novel kind o guy. I loveOrwell, Nick Hornsby and anything by Goosebumps.

MG:Do you have any upcoming shows or news thlike to share?CM: We will be playing a charity show at the Opolis o10th with the Pretty Black Chains and Crown Imperial. proceeds go to the Childrens Miracle Network, I thinkBrowns charity. I am excited to see Crown Imperial, mTommy, rom the Boom Bang told me I would like them.

    >> Im goingto guess theguy is the

    taker.

    By ElizabethAtherton

Ibring this story up for a lot of di erent reasons. Call it in-spiration, or call it walking down the Walmart ValentinesDay grocery aisle. Anyway around it this next topic on lovegets stickier than a heart-shaped sucker.

I heard a story from a friend of mine. She was at dinner withone o her co-workers whose husband happened to be a di-vorce lawyer. Now Im not sure what topic segued into this

conversation, but I do know what the man said struck myriend so hard she broke up with her boy riend that night. Thedivorce lawyer simply stated, There are two types of peoplein the world: The giver ... and the taker. He wenton to explain that usually i you have twotakers in a relationship, the marriage willprobably end just as fast as it started. If you have a giver and a taker in the re-lationship, they might be ne for therst six or seven years, but eventuallythe giver gets sick of giving all the timeand leaves. And nally you have the mar-riages with a giver and another giver. Andhe said, based on his experience, those are the

only ones that really last happily. Now, although he seemed to have laid out the success to amarriage in three short points, the problem lies in that factthat sometimes you cant help but love a taker. Of course youdont think of them as taking from you all the time, but oppo-sites do attract. Maybe heres a safe rule of thumb to help pro-tect you givers: I they take your love and your avors withoutany sort of return about 70 percent of the time, it probably istime to put an end to it for your own good.Another problem that the lawyer didnt address is, what

about those people who start out being givers and end up be-

ing takers? Or what i youre so blinded by love that you dontsee that the one you love is a taker. My brothers wi e is one othose, you know, takers. The two years they dated, she playedthe sweet part. She made him breakfast and cleaned and didall sorts o generous things. Then slowly, once the engage-ment was nished her act started to unravel. First it was thebreast surgery, then it was the perfect house, then money for

her to nish school, then money to start her own sewing busi-ness (which opped) and all of her wants became clear andvocalized. She even had a baby; was pregnant within three

months of their marriage. The little boy is only twoand she has him in pre-pre-school, along with

other programs, weekend baby sitters andmore. Before the marriage she saidshe wanted ve kids, and a ter themarriage she said she wanted a tum-my tuck and wasnt having anymore.

The giver ... Turned into a taker and amoneysucker as well. Now shes divorcing

my bother and breaking up a new family. Ithappens. Hopefully hell meet a giver next time.

Im a rm believer that people change. I also believethat people change how they act in relationships depend-ing on who theyre with. Ive seen ultimate takers turn intosuper-givers when they meet someone they really want tobe with. But I wouldnt depend on that. And be ore you takethat jump, Id recommend having the good ole give and takeconversation.

Since you would usually find me working on game-days these past ew years, its been awhile since Isaw an OU game being broadcast by the venerableBrent Musberger. (People dont seem to care for

him for some reason, but I think hes awesome. A goodamount of you werent alive for his excellent work withthe NBA on CBS back in the 80s so perhaps you haventseen him at the peak of his oratory powers.) Anyway, Ibring this up because he has stated on several broad-casts that Othellos is his favorite restaurant in Normanand he always makes a point to go when hes in town.I can just picture him and Barry Switzer sitting aroundthe Truth Table in the 80s talking ootball and doingcool Barry Switzer things. For a lot of Normans previ-ous generation, I can see why it was bittersweet to loseOthellos. Its still ar too soon to see how new owner Bob Weiss, who also owns the Othellos in Edmond, will put hisstamp on this Norman institution, but he has decades of nostalgia among local clientele to get him going in theright direction. Here we go.In my early twenties, I was living with my buddy Matt

and he had just gotten a job at a liquor store (conse-quently the same liquor store that now employs me).For the first couple months he worked there, hed getoff work around bar time and our group would begin toigure out the plans or the evening. He usually wouldntmeet up with us until much later in the evening becausehe was going to Othellos with the boss. At the time, wewere 21 or 22 and had no idea what the hell he was do-ing there because to us, Othellos was a date place or abar for the older crowd. When he met up with us later,he would always be way drunker than we were but I stilldidnt really get it.

It wasnt until a couple years later when I started work-ing at the store and became part of such shenanigansthat the math finally made sense. The drunk part camewith being in the territory o co-workers that can teachyou a thing or two about drinking, but what grabbedyou was the atmosphere. For us, it was a nice placeto go a ter a night o dealing with the drinking public

and sit down at a tableand relax. No matter whatyou have thought aboutOthellos in the past, youcant deny the restaurantsatmosphere. The lightingand decor make for a laid-back and inviting place, which wouldnt you knowit, makes it good for datestoo. Just throwing that outthere.I recently made my return

trip to Othellos since itsre-opening and I daresayit was more than worth thetrip. For Othellos veterans, the irst thing you willnotice is a change in themenu and wine/drink list.Well start with the drinks.

Theres a list o specialtycocktails, many of which

are martinis, that can cover whatever drinking moodyoure feeling. They sport a pretty impressive back-baras well if youre feeling like making your own concoc-tion. All the general bases are more than covered. Plus, for my own purposes, Im happy to see another bar thathas Myers. I can never have enough Myers stationsaround town. The wine list has expanded and there area few gems on the by-the-glass options. For the money, the Tommasi Valpolicella is a good red option (especiallysince you know, its an Italian restaurant and the wine it-self outperforms its price point) and one that you wontfind on many a wine list around town. I was in a bit scat-terbrained while I was looking over the list so I didntpay attention to the whites on the list but judging fromthe rest of my experience there they probably have a richchardonnay to go with some of their creamier dishes. With the menu, I steered clear of the standard fare

and ordered off the customer creations portion of themenu. A portion of the menu is made up of dishes (bothappetizers and entrees) that were the brainchild of oneof their Edmond clients that hit it off with the customersand were added to the menu.

We had an order o the pepperoni chips, which a bitto my surprise were excellent. Since they were baked, itwasnt the greasy monstrosity that they sound like theywould be. They basically taste like the crispy peppero-nis that come on your pizza, just without the flaky charthat can come with it. Personally, Im not the biggest fanof pepperoni, but if they can find a way to bake somecheese into it I can see myself gaining a few pounds. For my dinner I had an order of Nancys penne tomato

alfredo off said customer menu. The bread and saucewere definitely made in-house and were a pretty bigstep up from what the Olive Garden crowd is accustomedto. The portions toed the ine line between illing you upwithout it being too much food very well, which is keyor an Italian place depending on how youre planningyour night. Im pretty sure my appetite will be sateduntil its time for my drunken meal later. Dont get mewrong, Ill never turn down a larger portion but there

are certainly times when its not the best idreason or another. You can igure those out or yAdmittedly, I tried a rather basic option fro

but as they say, those easy items are a gooof the quality you can expect from some oadventurous choices. I look orward to trying titems from the customer list, especially somthat look to be delicious meat feasts.Going forward, there will be a focus on ni

and entertainment. The Tuesday Comedy Nifrom years past and Thursdays have been opan open mic night. On music nights that thband playing Joel Forlenza will be crooning

the ivories (background music for date nightIn the near uture, they will start Martini Monstaple of the Edmond location). Details areironed out, but there will be ree inger oodsable at the bar for those that make it in. Anmartinis and other drinks, but I suppose thofree too. Fiddlesticks. Also, there are half-prSunday, which is always a plus. The menu and bar have obviously been twotherwise, Othellos is still the same placebeen. The atmosphere that was always itsselling point is still there, along with perhapunderrated patio in town when the weather is ncourse, its not a crazy party bar (there are oor that), but its a good place to grab a quaintwith your friends/family or blow off some work. If my boss didnt have a family he hto now I eel there would be a resurgence o poOthellos trips. As ar as a date place goes, it wovide a nice start to the night. If you havent made your way over since -

turned to The Corner, stop on by. As they rothere looks to be something different on any so thats un. Currently, they are taking reservattheir Valentines Day service. In addition tomenu, they will be offering specialty cakes fyou have a lady to impress go ahead and boofolks, my work here is done, see you at the bone winning his battle against sobriety.

The Cameron Crazies of Duke, The Orange Krush of Illinois, The Zoo in Pittsburg and The Izzoneat Michigan State: what do all of these have in common? These well-known student sectionsare a number of fan bases that show up in throngs to support their schools basketball team nomatter who they are playing or the record of their team. This is something that is lacking in eye

-opening fashion at the University of Oklahoma. Now I am not expecting the Lloyd Noble Center to ever resemble Cameron Indoor on the campus of

Duke University, but for a student base that takes such pride in the athletic accomplish-ments of their university, why has there been a decline in the student attendance atOU basketball games over the last decade and especially now? Blake Gri n could

not get a full student section and he was one of the most powerful and explosiveplayers in college basketball while he played for the Sooners; hell he was even alocal guy from Oklahoma.Going to games use to be the thing to do, part of the College Experience. These

days you are lucky to see 50 students at a Sooner basketball game. Former Soonerdefensive standout and now Tampa Bay Buccaneer Gerald McCoy was a big-time ath-lete, but still showed up at every basketball game, sometimes dressed up in wigs, bigsunglasses and even once as a larger than life Cupid. Since Gerald left, I cannot remem-ber seeing another player from another sport at a basketball game other than Soonerquarterback Landry Jones, and he is there to support his anc .as he should. As I sat in the LNC on Saturday January 7th of this year watching the Sooners welcome

the Kansas Jayhawks, a traditional powerhouse not only in the conference but in the land-scape o college basketball, I was sad to see hardly any students. Finding not only that themajority of the crowd was in blue to show support for the Jayhawks and not the crimson tosupport the Sooners. So what is it Sooner students? What is the reason I do not see you at the games? Is it the

price? No, I know that the student tickets are priced low enough for any student to a ord them.Is it social media? Are Twitter, Facebook or being on the Playstation Network better than real life? You want some cool Twitter or Facebook pictures, tweets or status updates?Show up in numbers at a game and show the country and your team thatthere is only ONE OKLAHOMA.Sooner students, you can even take a page from The Orange Krush

at Illinois, not only are they one o the best student sections in theentire country; they even do charitable work. They have anelected leader and as a group they pledge money to donatefor the number of three-point baskets made in the entireseason to charities and split in an endowment with theUniversity of Illinois. In 2008 they presented a checkfor a $500,000 endowment in the name of Coach LouHenson, called the Lou Henson Coaching and Develop-ment Fund.So what is the excuse now? Come support your

team, your school and you can even come together

for a bigger purpose and raise money for othersin need. The point being, get to the LNC and beloud, be rowdy, support athletics and show thecountry there is only ONE OKLAHOMA.Feel free to comment and let me know what you ,

Ahhh ... can you smell it? Its that time of year. Is it roses? Yes probably, coming froThe scent ows onto the city streets, and the roses sit neatly next to the produce seccardboard cutout of a boy-man with small wings sprouting out of his back, a curly mthe early 90s, freckles, short arms and a diaper. Why, hello Cupid.According to Squidoo.com there are over 180 million Valentines Day card exchang

    26/32

Idea 1: Tumble with Rumble($299):From Friday Feb. 11th - Feb. 14th you can book Rumble from

the Oklahoma City Thunder to deliver a special Valentines Daygreeting to your loved one. No lie, he will walk up to the build-ing or house or class that your loved one is currently in. Hellhave a sound system with him that will be blaring a love song, and he will give your loved one a 20-minute window of qual-ity Rumble time, take pictures (that will be emailed) and thenseal the deal with a Thunder gi t basket. Now, not sure how thereception of Rumble would be if he waltzed right in to SpanishII ... but I can promise you, it wont be a Valentines Day thatsforgotten. For information, call Rumbles hotline at (405) 208-4736.

Idea 2: Float in the River of Love($150-$200):I wish I was kidding with the name of this one. But Im not.

There is such thing as a River of Love and it can be found at TheRiver of Love Cabins in Thackerville. They even o er a Valen-tines Package full of romantic things like hottubs and cham-pagne. However, if the Valentines Day weekend doesnt workor you, this very sweet, not-so-expensive idea can be usedwhenever your loved one decides. And another plus ... its onlylike an hour and a hal away.

Idea 3: Pucker-up at the Duck Pond($25):Not only is this a cheap option, but it could be really un.

Sometimes its nice to get back to the basics. For new daterswho are in that awkward, Do we celebrate Valentines Day to-gether? phase, this might be just the solution. Its super easyto pull together. Go to Homeland (or wherever), grab somefresh baked bread, maybe include a rosemary turkey thatsalready cooked and some chocolate. Also grab some paperplates and plastic cups. Then go and get some wine. Grab ablanket or a bedspread and get going to your picnic. Just makesure to get there be ore its dark ... also watch out or proposals... Im guessing there will be 1 or 2 - things could get awkwardi youre not paying attention.

Idea 4: Treasure Hunt($ ree):Now, this sounds complicated, but it doesnt have to be. Pickmaybe ve locations in Norman. They can be relatively closeto each other, but try and make them well-known landmarks. They could even be around campus. For each of the rst fourlocations write a love letter, including a hint to the next loca-tion (youll probably also need an envelope). For the last loca-tion, hide your nal present there. It could even be just a boxo cheap chocolates hidden in the library, or wherever. I youuse a location like a bakery or restaurant, maybe people wouldeven help out guarding your gi ts. Also, the rst our letters

you write, tape them under chairs or benches a... that way no one catches on to your little secret.

Idea 5: Pub Crawl($5 for Each Spot):Obviously shunning the super romantic stu f

laid-back time, this is a fun way to spend Valenmean who doesnt like low-key? Simply pick afew places that are located somewhatclose to each other (Campus Corner isa pretty ideal place) and be on yourmerry way. At each place try andeat or drink something red(so at least there is a littleValentines Day involved). If the red thing justends up be-ing you and

your loverdrinkingBloodyMarys... may-be justs w i t c hto beerand join inValentinesDay fun by

disclosing asecret aboutyoursel to theother person at everylocation. Ooo-la-la. Justmake sure you make some sortof game/objective, because if youdont you might as well just ask if he/shewants to go drinking ... not so romantic sound-ing.

Idea 6: Dance, Dance, Love-o-lu($20 oMore):Dance the night away, or even just for an hourdancing lesson. Even i the two o you end up havinfeet, its the thought that counts. Not to mention-ing up a few extra dance moves a bad thing? Lhas more dance studios than it does fast food around ... surely they can squeeze you in.

  • 8/3/2019 Boyd Street Magazine February 8th, 2012 Issue 3 Volume 9

    27/32

Idea 7: Make-a-Move Movie Marathon ($10):Hopefully making this more romantic than a usual Saturday

night wont be hard. But simply you stay in, and decide to focusthe night on your celebration of love by renting classic roman-tic icks. Some of the best Id recommend:Casablanca, WhenHarry Met Sally, Youve Got Mail, The Notebook, Overboard, Not-

ting Hill, Love Actually or whatever - just scroll the aisles, or Imsure an employee would be happy togive guidance.

    Idea 8:Massage

    or TwoP e a s -i n - a -P o d($ ree -

    $60.00 andup):Ideally, wed all

be rolling aroundin money and could

spend it on awesomethings like a couples

massage. And although Imnot rolling around in money,Id like to say that a couples mas-

sage is worth every penny. I payingfor a massage isnt an option, an even

more intimate idea is taking turns givingeach other massages.

Idea 9: Cant Fake what you Bake ($15):When all else ails, bake. White chocolate trufes, choco-

late covered strawberries, whatever will work. Google search

Valentines Day recipes, the options are endless. Baking re-quires teamwork and can keep two people entertained forhours. Its also cheap and customizable.

Idea 10: Egg-cellent Valentines Day Idea ($1and up):This is a good one. Surprise your lover with breakfast in bed.

I cant really give you your speci c logistics, but the idea is youwork out with the other persons roommate that they let you

into the house, or put a key under the door ... or do wMake a reason be orehand. This planning allows yoin before the alarm and surprise the person yowith an edible treat.

Idea 11: Holding a Helping Hand($ ree):So this is probably my personal favorite. If yo

book about womens porn (pictures of men house) youd understand. But for Valentines Daloved one just how much they are loved, give thhelp. That day, or even just that week, do one thyou know theyd love. In my case, it would bedoing the dishes ... in his case, it would be meclean out his car. If you want to go bigger, you coeach other coupon books, redeemable at anytimits lovers helping lovers ... and thats a beauti ul thi

Idea 12: Smile for the PhotoBo($20 oMore):There are just about hundreds of these sites, bShutterFly and Snap Fish are just a few. For thhas everything ... and if time is on your side, a p-tures what Facebook cant and what a scrapbook dothe time. You might have to pay for extra delivehow fun would it be to spend Valentines Day ghappy memories together? Make sure the date ion it, so you can look back on it for years to com

Idea 13: Take a Leap of Faith with($200 and up):Although to some people, encouraging your lovtheir life would be looked upon as bad. Whesky diving, all bets are o . Its a once in a lifetimmemory that you will share with that person foro you can be like two turtledoves suspended in thlovely.

Idea 14: XOXO Got-to-Go Idea($20 and up):For the couple who cant sit still, make a night ohave to pick just one thing. Start at the Duck Po-ner and go get a cocktail. Or drop the pond idea anmovie or a basketball game instead. They key poplanning. People love feeling like youve plannfor them. Plan a night in Bricktown, or in downThere are plenty o activities to do, and i youre nsomething just call ahead.

    O The Corner By SarahHill

    28

Lets irst o all get one thing clear. This isnt Mexican ood. Its not even anythingclose. If I were to guess where my meal came from, Id say its a bite of paradisewrapped in a cornhusk. Trs Taqueria Cantina is open for business in Norman. So really the rich flavor that makes up all things Trs does have a background.

The eclectic menu is combined with recipes from Spain, New Mexico and South Ameri-ca. The best of all worlds. Now this praise might sound over-the-top, but the flavor was

a breath o resh air. Although this isnt Tex-Mex (lets be clear about that) the art ulblend of spices reminded me of my favorite Mexican food restaurants from home. Sofar, and I can say this without a doubt, Trs is the only place Ive found yet in Oklahomathat has satisfied that hunger for rich, homemade ethnic food.

Located on Main Street nestled next to The Garage, theres a painted sign on the win-dow that reads Trs. Follow that sign. Walk in. It marks the spot for this great LatinAmerican fare. I took on this culinary quest with my boyfriend, Mike. Hes a foodie too;i he wasnt we obviously wouldnt be able to work out.

When you open the door to Trs, youre greeted with bright green walls, modern ar t,rustic chandeliers, an old tiled ceiling and framed abstract photos nestled in one core. There are three painted cattle skulls placed next to a red tree looking thing protrudingfrom the wall. Its modern, and somewhat raw ... but it works. Between the art and thelaid-back music, the mood is set. We seated ourselves. The laid-back music provided anupbeat ambiance as I ordered a sangria swirl and their queso, arepas and chips fromour riendly waitress.

Lets just say, the arepas (cornbread like triangle pieces) weredelicious. I can only imagine that the cravingto go back and order them again willstick any day now ... and be oreIm ever pregnant (not anytime even close to soon),Ill have to just pay themto give me the recipe. Iwashed the arepas downwith my sangria swirl. Itssweet and heavy ... I couldveprobably had ive. Mike opted or

the margarita, and based on his rapid consumption, I believe he liked As for the main course, I asked my waitress what she recommended a

me to the hallacas (eye-ahk-ahs). Theyre a Venezuelan tamale wrappeleaf. The succulent meat comes with a your sauce of choice on top, bu-alllllly nice, they might let you try all three of the sauces on top (chile or queso), which is what I did ... and Id highly recommend. The feast

of white beans and black rice but because my food vocabulary is aboutJanet Jacksons bank account, Im not positive thats what those items know theyre good. And maybe even healthy? Naw ... thatd be too goMike, representing the homeboys out there, ordered the soft rolled

pulled pork adovada. And just know, there is nothing soft about this bthe name mislead you. Its packing heat and was almost as delicious Mike liked his the best ... agree to disagree). Either way, from my ecouldnt make a bad choice. To conclude this review, Id like to include my insight into their trs l

cant. Because I was so full by the time I finished my hallacas, I had tothe joint. Maybe next time. MmMmMm.
