Ecosystem: 1.Producers Producers produce food for other animalse.g Trees, plants

2. ConsumersConsumers eat the food that the producersprovidee.g Herbivores (things that eat plants)Omnivores (things that eat meat and plants)Carnivores (things that eat meat)Insectivores (things that eat insects)

3. DecomposersDecomposers clean up the dead meat and plantslying on the grounde.g worms, fungi, bacteria, insectibites and toadstools

More About Forests:Forests regulate temperature

Inside (in summer) coolerOutside (in summer) warmer

Inside (in winter) warmerOutside (in winter) cooler

Forests filter the water for the streams and they stop soil eroding into the water

Recycling:

When trees no longer need their leaves, they fall to the ground. They are then recycled by: fungi, bacteria and invertebrates (FBI). These decomposers attack the leaves. You can see this by the mould dots on the leaves or the chomped leaves.

These ‘FBI’ go “chomp, chomp, chomp”then they go “poo, poo, poo”. All the nutrients from the fine poo is absorbed into the plants and used by them.

The Canopy Of The Forest

Question: Are the leaves at the bottom of the forest the same as the ones at the top?

Top Leaves:-Green-Little leaves-Grow up to getmaximum sunlight

Bottom Leaves:-Big leaves-Need more surface area to absorb light-Green

Why The Top Leaves AreLittle:

The top leaves are little because they don’t needmuch sunlight since theyare up there already upthere getting the sunlight

Why The Bottom LeavesAre Big:

The bottom leaves are big because there isn’t much sunlight on the bottom of the forest so they need more surface area to take in sunlight.
