OVERVIEW
LOCATION/SETTING
The “kidnapping” is taken place in a local multi story car park in the local town centre of Reigate. We chose to use the filming location of a car park due to the fact, it is a terrifying place to be taken from as they are usually huge and empty, and in the dark it feels like you are constantly being watched.. It also adds a lot of realism because a popular place of being taken is in a car park, which adds a sense of thrill/ horror.
Act 1: man walks to car park and ends up meeting friend there should be fake out as friend is not
revealed at first so audience thinks the friend is villain at first
Act 2: man climbs the car park tension slowly builds as he gets higher and higher
Act 3: man gets kidnapped no context to explain why Key dramatic moment: the kidnapping
STRUCTURE
Character 1- main guy he should represent a average everyday college student who got involved
with the wrong people. Shown having regular clothes: hoodie, jeans, white shirt, trainers
Character two- main guys mate he would also represent an average college student therefore
would wear same clothes as character 1 however white shirt is not necessary
Kidnapper shouldn't represent anything a faceless figure that nobody can relate to would wear all balck
and have face covered.
REPRESENTATION CHARACTERS
GENRE
Our Genre we have chosen for our film opening, is Thriller, but the sub genre is Psychological Thriller. We chose this because our opening contains, footage that views may find frightening and shocking psychological side, it includes the constant questioning to what's happening and why the character has been taken? And who has taken them?. Which also adds to the tension and drama of the film.
Performance: the main guy should be extremely nervous the whole time
The friend should be friendly at first then it should turn to concern as he sees the worry on the main mans face
The kidnappers should just generally be very aggressiveProxemics: the main guy should shy away from everyone
but will be close enough to the friend to show genuine friendship an arms an arms lenght would be the ideal
space.
MISE ON SENE PERFORMANCE AND PROXEMICS
Kidnappers all black, balaclava nothing on showMain guy: hoodie, jeans, white shirt, trainers
Main guys friend: jacket, jeans, shoes, shirt that isn't black or white.
Only prop is a car
PROPS AND COSTUME
Normally in a psychological thriller there is lot of close up of characters faces
We would have some close ups of characters faces also as the main character would have some POVs
while walking down the street. As he is walking up the stairs to the car park the camera should change between POVs and distance shots. while he is being strangled there should be close up on
his face and the kidnappers.
CAMERA WORK
When editing we are looking to include a variety of different effects. Such as sound effects, for example when the kidnapping takes place and the car involved quickly
drives off, tyre screeching noises will be added for effect. We may decide to add opening titles at the end of the clip so the film almost seems like an intro. However we may
decide not to use music depending on the effects used as we may not need it.
POST PRODUCTION
When researching psychological thrillers I came across a film, Donnie Darko. This film is about a teenager who doesn't get
along too well with his family, his teachers and his classmates; but he does manage to find a sympathetic friend called
Gretchen, who agrees to date him. He has a compassionate psychiatrist, who discovers hypnosis is the means to unlock
hidden secrets. Both the event, and Donnie's escape, seem to have been caused by supernatural events. Donnie's mental
illness, if such it is, may never allow him to find out for sure. This is why this psychological thriller will help aid our opening
scene of one as this has provided me with ideas and inspiration to what we should include in ours to help build the
suspense and tension which a thriller should include.
INFLUENCES FROM RESEARCH
Ambient music should build suspense two crescendos: friend taps shoulder, man gets kidnapped
Dialogue: man talks to friend, kidnapper tells other kidnapper to get victim in car.
Sound effects: tire screech, steps as he climbs to top of car park boot slamming
