Term Dates Please note the following dates in your

diary/calendar.

Did you know that Bonfire Night is also known as "Guy Fawkes Night"? Guy Fawkes was just one of

the perpetrators of the Gunpowder Plot, but he is the one that is most remembered. Traditionally,

children make a "Guy", or life-size, scarecrow-like effigy of Guy Fawkes, which is thrown onto the

communal bonfire during the celebrations - but not before being paraded around (sometimes in an old

pram or go-cart) by the children, who ask for "a penny for the guy" to spend on sparklers, sweets or

other treats!

This month the

whole school

were lucky

enough for

Alyssa to join

us as an expert

in Indian dance.

The children took part in

some fantastic dance les-

sons learning about the his-

tory of Indian dance and

the stories behind some of

the dance moves. The work-

shop linked in to our topic,

as the children have been

learning about the similari-

ties and differences be-

tween ‘their world’ and chil-

dren in India

When the children were not

dancing they took part in a

range of activities to cele-

brate Diwali, some of you

may already have your diva

pots at home.

At the end of a fantastic

day the children loved

s h o w c a s i n g

their dancing to

you all.

A massive thank you to the PTA for their

very generous contribution towards the

cost of the day.

We have been busy writing poems

for the British Legion Remembrance

Day Poetry Competition. Here are

two of our poems.

We were joined for the day by a Go-Ride

Coach from British Cycling who helped the

whole school to build their cycling confi-

dence. Here are the Golden Eagles at the

field listening carefully and developing their

skills.

You may have noticed that we are very keen on reading in Golden Eagles. We would therefore like to share our love

of reading with you, so we are going to be sharing our thoughts and short synopsis about books we have read regu-

larly in this Newsletter. We hope this will inspire you to pick up a book and take a read yourself or even share in

our experiences by reading the books along with us. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

In this edition of the newsletter we have pieces written by Harry Merridan and Harry Matheson. You’ll find them

over leaf Enjoy!

We are very pleased to introduce the beautiful Ella,

who is our new sponsored puppy with Dogs for

Good. She is ready to begin her year of puppy so-

cialising, where she will learn many important skills

that she will need when she starts formal training.

Little Ella is a cockapoo; not one of the more com-

mon breeds used by Dogs for Good, but they can

make very special assistance dogs. They tend to be

very bright, happy and affectionate dogs that have

potential to be wonderful helpers and companions.

Of course, there is a long way to go before Ella is at

this stage, and for now, she is just going to enjoy

being a puppy. She is settling into her new home

with puppy socialiser Jane, who she will live with for

around a year. As she gets bigger, Jane will take

her out to shops, supermarkets, and even to dentist

appointments or the doctor’s surgery. These are all

places that assistance dogs visit regularly so it is

important that Ella is familiar and confident with

them from an early age.

With the help of Jane and our very experienced

team of puppy coordinators, she will also learn to

be a well mannered young pup. She will need to

master obedience such as ‘sit’, ‘down’ and ‘stay’ as

well as walking gently to heel when out on her lead.

There is much for Ella to learn, but she will have

plenty of fun along the way. She will attend regular

puppy classes, where, as well as showing off what

skills she is learning, she will get to play and inter-

act with other pups in training. It is very important

that Ella is just as comfortable around other dogs as

she is with people.

To help with her training, she will get plenty of treats

and lots of toys—which is good as she adores play-

ing. It doesn’t matter if the toys are soft, squeaky or

perfect for chewing, she loves them all!

Helping a young puppy like Ella to become a life changing helper is

only made possible thanks to support of people like you, so thank

you for sponsoring the lovely little Ella with Dogs for Good.

We look forward to keeping you updated about her progress, and

hope you enjoy following on her journey.
