    Continuous open pit

    soft rock mining systems

A continuous so t rock process starts with a bucket wheel excavator. The minedmaterial, overburden or other material, such as lignite, is then transported rom thepit on conveyors. Overburden material is typically dumped on the other side o the pitacross rom the mine ace.

Sandvik has a long history as a leading supplier o so t rock mining systems. We supplya multitude o di erent machines, with various purposes and capabilities to acilitatethe continuous process. Our engineering and mining experts design the correct system

or each speci c mine, using one o the two ollowing techniques.

AROUND THE PIT SYSTEMIn this technique, the conveyor system transports the material along three sides o thepit. Because each mine operation is unique, Sandviks engineering and mining expertsdesign the correct system or each speci c operation.

The bucket wheel excavator, through an installed conveyor system, dischargesoverburden into the receiving chute o a hopper car. To minimize distance and heightissues, a beltwagon can work as a mobile link to the mobile hopper o ering greaterfexibility. A conveyor system, specially adapted to the topographic conditions, trans ersthe material around the pit to a crawler-mounted spreader which discharges the wastematerial in the dumping area. Sandviks around the pit systems:

Adapt to di erent mining and deposit conditionsProvide shi table or mobile conveyorsAccommodate long distances between mines and dump areas

CROSS PIT SYSTEMIn this specialized system, to be used as an across the pit conveyor, the excavatorextracts overburden material and eeds it via conveyors to a spreader. The spreaderconveys the waste material directly across the open pit and onto the developingdumping area. Sandviks cross pit systems:

    Continuous open pit

    hardrock mining systems

In a continuous hard rock process, drilling and blasting are still utilized. But unlikethe traditional load and truck haul process, the materials transportation rom the pitis continuous. The process includes in-pit crusher, a conveying system and spreader todispose o waste material in a dumping area.

Sandvik draws on a wealth o experience and expertise or designing and installingthe most e ective and economical systems in hard rock mining. These include threedi erent processes which, using xed, semi-mobile or ully mobile in-pit crushers, are tailored to your speci c mine. Our o ering covers drilling, in-pit crushing andall materials handling systems, with an extensive list o re erences demonstrating ourcompetence and understanding o customer needs. Sandviks innovative systems haveproven to reduce operating costs or transportation, manpower and maintenance. Anadditional bene t is the improved environment with electrically-powered materialhaulage.

IN-PIT CRUSHING WITH FIXED AND SEMI-MOBILE PLANTSIn this method, trucks are used to transport material rom the mine ace to the in-pit crusher, o ten moving between levels when using semi-mobile plants. As miningadvances, the hauling distance to the crusher increases, eventually requiring the crusherand conveyors to be relocated.

IN-PIT CRUSHING WITH FULLY-MOBILE PLANTSIn this method, without any trucks, a ully mobile crusher or sizer is positionedbetween the mine ace and a conveyor. The crushing plant, typically crawler-mounted,continuously ollows the mine ace development. High-angle conveyors can be used toavoid overly long mine conveyors to transport material rom the pit.

Sandviks continuous mining technology and our understanding o process needs havemeant improved results or our customers.

    Component activation or system reliability

    Conveyor componentsbulk materials transportation

Transportation systems depend on the consistant unctioning o conveyor components.Sandviks complete conveyor o ering includes components with an emphasis onper ormance and reliability, or light, medium and heavy-duty applications. Throughinnovation in design and manu acturing techniques, we provide operations andmaintenance personnel with products that support modern mining practices, both asoriginal components or as replacements in existing systems.

HEAVY DUTY TRANS PORTATIONHighly demanding conditions or rollers, rames or complete idlers (rollers and

rames) are o ten encountered in stripping and handling o overburden material and inprocessing and transportation o coal, iron ore, and other mined materials. Individualconveyors o ten transport 20 000 tonnes per hour and overland conveyors can have upto 100 000 rollers in a single system. Sandviks component business has grown up inthis environment; we understand the importance o reliability and the cost o ailures.

Thanks to our global strength, and close-to-customers manu acturing on severalcontinents, our rollers and idlers are delivered to suit a range o di ering standardsand speci cations including European, Australian, Asian, A rican and Americanstandards and dimensions. Sandviks low-noise rollers support operations in sensitiveenvironments.

Pulleys must e ectively and reliably trans er the drive motor load to the belt as wellas provide support or changes in the belt direction. In-house design so tware, coupled

with our dedicated research and development activities, ensure that we supply theoptimum pulleys or each application. Sandvik supplies conveyor pulleys in diametersto over 2 000 mm (80 in) diameter, suitable or the most extreme operating tensions. These can be coupled with Sandviks takeup devices, both vertical or horizontal, thatmake it easy to maintain the pre-set belt tension or optimal load transportation withless slippage and reduced wear.

HIGH SPEED CONVEYINGHigh belt speeds bring additional challenges to rollers in bearing li e, noise and powerdemands. Our latest commitment to lead in this eld is the revolutionary HM150

ormed roller, designed to operate in applications up to 11 m/s (36 t/s) and capacitiesup to 52 000 tonnes per hours. Based on innovative and new design principles, ormedrollers will operate longer, more quietly and will consume less energy than traditionalhigh-speed rollers.

    loading points

A poorly designed or integrated trans er point can lead to product spillage, impactdamage on conveyor belts, dust emission and poor belt tracking. Sandviks designexpertise and complete o ering or loading points components provide a smoothtransition rom chute to belt.

SPILLAGE REDUCTIONAlthough di cult to calculate, waste o material is a cost that needs to be minimized.Sandvik loading sections, including a range o skirting systems, are designed to assistwith the sealing o conveyor loading points to prevent spillage o material whether withor without a skirt (sealingless).

CONVEYOR BELT STABILITYAt high speeds and heavy usage, conveyors must be able to operate smoothly and wellaligned. Sandviks belt centralizing idler starts centering the return belt immediatelywhen the slightest deviation appears. Products such as our belt tracking roller or ourrange o positive action trainers are suitable or both the carry and return side o bothsingle direction and reversing conveyors.

IMPACT MANAGEMENTHeavy material can cause considerable damage dropping onto an unsupportedconveyor belt. Our impact stations include impact slider beds, with or without centerrollers, as well as heavy-duty impact roller cassettes to ensure the belt is adequatelysupporting when subjected to heavy impact loads.

WEAR PRODUCTSDesigned to extend the li e o such equipment as chutes, hoppers and trans er points, sheet rubber products and rubber wear panels also help reduce noise. These can bebonded or bolted to the chute or hopper walls to provide signi cantly increased wearli e.

    safety and the environment

Protection o personnel, equipment and environment are issues that are themselvesimportant, but also a ect operations and productivity. Conveyors can create a lot o dust, cause spillage, and intensi y noise. With a variety o thought ul products, Sandvikaddresses these concerns.

DUST SUPPRESSIONThe HX410 is an electrostatic dust suppression system which is an economical,e ective and low-maintenance alternative to traditional suction and lter or waterspray systems. Sandviks HX410 is installed directly a ter the trans er point, above theconveyor belt. As the material and dust are conveyed through the HX410, the dust isionized causing it to be attracted to the inside o the housing. A vibration motor on topo the housing then returns the dust to the material fow. The design is modular to t arange o belt widths and speeds.

BELT CLEANINGSandvik manu actures a comprehensive range o primary and secondary cleaners withboth tungsten tips and polyurethane blades. Suitable or dry powdery applicationsas well as sticky materials, our belt cleaners keep belts running e ciently, reducingthe amount o material spillage. A Sandvik belt turnover system turns the belt upsidedown, keeping material that has adhered to the belt rom dropping along the length o the conveyor.

SAFETY DEVICESIn collaboration with the conveyor industry, Sandvik has developed a range o sa etydevices or both new and existing conveyors, including electrical sa ety devices such aspull-wire emergency switches, belt rotation detectors, belt misalignment switches andblocked chute switches. Sa ety guards and a belt rip detention system can be tted toreduce or restrict conveyor access.
