Your Way.HP and Microsoft private cloud solutionsBlogging cheat sheetHP blogging guidelinesWhen deciding to post on blogs and other social media outlets, please remember HP has extensive guidelines to help you be successful in the social space. You can find the official HP blogging guidelines at: h10014.www1.hp.com/hpweb/login.asp?bounce=https://h10014.www1.hp.com/hpweb/index.asp

Commenting on blogsMost blog posts are created by users who are not paid to do so. With this in mind, commenting on blogs can be tricky, especially when posting as a representative from an HP and Microsoft partner. However, you are in a strong position of authority since you represent companies whose products power many of these bloggers’ enterprise business infrastructures.

In many cases, posts from authority figures are welcome additions to the conversation, but there is a very fine line between relevant and authoritative content that adds to the value of the existing content—and spam. Most bloggers are happy to facilitate the information you have to share, but you should follow some guidelines—including the social media guidelines of HP—to increase the successful creation of well-written, well-read blog comments.

Do’s• Comment on relevant blog posts; see the “finding relevant posts” section below.

• Write the blog comment from your perspective. You should be answering for yourself, not for your company as a whole.

• Identify yourself early in the comment as a representative from an HP and Microsoft partner. The more specific you are about your role with the company, the better.

• Be friendly, responsive, and conversational. Blogging is all about starting a conversation, not about making a sale. Nobody wants to read an ad from a company within blog comments. However, if you—as a professional—have value to add to the conversation through your expert knowledge of the products, readers will welcome your comments.

• Add to the conversation. The information you post should increase the overall content’s value, not detract from it. Be conscious of this before pressing the “submit” button.

Don’ts• Don’t post a comment and move on. Make note of every comment you write and revisit those posts after one

day. Other users may have responded to your comment with additional questions. Your ability to answer those questions in a timely fashion will determine how engaged those users/readers become.

• Don’t try to hide the fact you are an employee of an HP and Microsoft partner. Accusations of non-transparency are a sure-fire way to foster ill will toward you, HP, and Microsoft.

• Don’t focus on the products you’re selling. Instead, all comments should relate to the post itself. Inserted ads have no place in a blog comment.

Example of a non-valuable comment“Our organization has been very successful deploying private cloud solutions.”

Example of a valuable comment“For organizations looking to control expenses and cut costs, a private cloud solution is a proven way to consolidate the server footprint, cut energy costs for power and cooling, and reduce management overhead---while also boosting overall efficiency.”

Participating in forumsForums (also called message boards) can be an excellent source of information and conversation in the social space. As one of the oldest forms of social media, some argue forums are the only social media that facilitates real conversations. Forums consist of comments or posts, usually posted in chronological order, and are relevant to a single topic—which is called a thread. Threads are posted under a “subforum,” which has a specific subject. Many forums and message boards have multiple subjects within an overall area. Here is an example.

Posting on a forum is a bit different from posting on a blog. Users on a forum are more likely to be invested in the forum. In most forums, statistics are usually available about specific users next to the avatar on their posts. Note the higher number of posts a user has posted on that forum, the more invested they are in the forum. They will be more skeptical of the information you post and may not be very welcoming. However, if you have valuable content to post, you should post it with confidence.

Do’s• Follow similar guidelines to posting blog comments. While forums are different from blog comments in many ways, the

basic sentiment of the posts is similar.

• Be aware of the people who are posting in a thread. Many people are likely to have invested countless hours adding value to the forum, and they will be more apt to discount or disregard your posts. If you add real value, you should have no problems.

• Introduce yourself as soon as you sign up. Many forums have a topic reserved for introductions only. It is bad form to open an account and start posting without first introducing yourself.

• Be transparent. Be very forthcoming that you are a representative of an HP and Microsoft partner. You have a wealth of product knowledge they don’t have, and letting them know you’re from a partner will help them understand you know what you’re talking about.

• Use the search function within the forum to see if something similar has already been posted. Forum members get annoyed when new threads are created when a similar one already exists.

Don’ts• Don’t contradict or attack any of the forum members. This is extremely bad form, especially from an authoritative

representative from an HP and Microsoft partner. You may be banned from the forum for this behavior.

• Don’t post right away. Wait to get a feel for the community before your first post.

Commenting on a forum post on the need for a private cloud solutionEvery day, more organizations are realizing the “one server for one workload” approach to IT no longer works. It’s too costly. It’s too difficult to manage. It’s too inefficient. These organizations are finding virtualization is a great way to move to a “many workloads on one physical server” approach to IT. This approach saves money and time, and it significantly boosts efficiency. But there’s a better way to approach IT—one that provides all the benefits of virtualization, plus a whole lot more. This new approach is the private cloud. And it’s revolutionizing IT.

By placing your applications and other workloads in the cloud, they remain available and accessible from any location at any time, via a Web browser. That means people can access the apps they need when they need them. And that means better productivity. The cloud also enables you to reduce management. Rather than manage and maintain individual application instances on end-user devices, the apps are centralized in the cloud, so there’s only one instance to manage. And with security on everyone’s mind, storing information assets in the cloud is far more secure than on end-user devices, which can be lost or stolen.

So when you consider a private cloud for your organization, look at the benefits cloud provides, but also look at the solution provider. It’s best to go with one you know, which is why so many companies choose private cloud solutions from HP and Microsoft—two industry leaders with more than 30 years of partnership who are now extending their expertise to the cloud.

Commenting on a blog post about speeding the journey to private cloudDeploying a private cloud environment can take months to complete—or it can take just a few short weeks, from initial design to final deployment, when you choose a solution that’s pre-tested and proven to run. HP and Microsoft speed your journey to private cloud by delivering proven solutions ranging from flexible reference architectures (RAs) you can customize to meet your unique needs, to turnkey solutions integrated from the ground up. To ensure these solutions deliver the performance and capabilities you need for your private cloud, HP and Microsoft built them on optimized converged infrastructure, with deeply integrated management. These agile private cloud solutions also include comprehensive cloud services to minimize your deployment risk.

Commenting on a forum thread about performance benefits of HP and Microsoft private cloud solutionsIn today’s business environment, it’s all about speed and performance. That’s why HP and Microsoft based all their private cloud solutions on optimized HP Converged Infrastructure. HP and Microsoft’s goal was to deliver the increased performance, reliability, and capacity you need, whenever you need it. By coupling HP Converged Infrastructure with Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and System Center 2012, you get a flexible, highly available infrastructure that can scale to meet the most demanding enterprise requirements. Did you know Microsoft has unrivaled experience in building and running large cloud services, including more than 200 online services to hundreds of millions of people globally, 24x7, including MSN, Bing, and Hotmail?

HP client virtualization solutions for MicrosoftAs business demands continue to evolve, many customers are re-evaluating their IT environment through the “productivity lens.” And that means doing whatever it takes to support an increasingly mobile workforce. Using a right-fit combination of mobile devices, workers are online and active at any hour of the day or night, logging in from virtually anywhere that offers a connection. Mobile workers demand more than just access—they need a fast, Always-On, consistent experience across devices. And as each “latest new thing” hits the market, they want IT to support it—with the ultimate goal of continuously improving productivity and success. But the challenge doesn’t stop there. Underlying all the technology requirements are the business needs to maintain compliance, control costs, minimize user downtime, secure confidential corporate data, and streamline provisioning of corporate resources. While this may seem like an impossibly long list of “must haves,” HP and Microsoft can address them all with a single solution—delivered as a simple, complete, cost-effective, and fully tested reference architecture for deploying desktop virtualization. Based on HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 Servers, HP Thin Clients, and industry-leading software from Microsoft, the HP Client Virtualization SMB Reference Architecture for Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (HP CV SMB RA for Microsoft WS2012) removes the guesswork and risk from deploying a desktop virtualization solution. And because the design of the HP CV SMB RA for Microsoft WS2012 leverages the knowledge gained during extensive performance tests, you can deploy the RA with confidence.

• Provides leading performance – Benchmark testing confirms the HP CV SMB RA for Microsoft Windows Server 2012 can support up to 175 virtual desktops per host server with excellent response time. In addition, you can experience a 6X performance increase with HP ProLiant Gen8 servers, ensuring the solution can comfortably meet the needs of small and midsize businesses.

• Makes deployment easy – It’s easy to set up the HP CV SMB RA for Microsoft Windows Server 2012 solution on your HP ProLiant server and configure your desktop images, so you can quickly deliver virtual desktops to your users. Because all the software comes from Microsoft, there is no need to work with a third-party vendor, and licensing costs are kept to a minimum. You can start with the sample bill of materials, and then tailor the solution to meet your unique needs.

• Includes everything you need – With the HP CV SMB RA for Microsoft Windows Server 2012, there is no additional infrastructure to deploy—no need for additional management servers, databases, or SANs, and no need for additional virtualization or management software. Everything you need is included in the solution.

• Reduces risk – You can work with the HP and Microsoft Frontline Partners to customize your CV solution to meet your unique needs. Frontline Partners have extensive experience delivering tailored CB solutions to customers of all sizes across all industries.

HP Departmental Private Cloud Reference ArchitectureThe HP Departmental Private Cloud Reference Architecture outlines the process for building a Hyper-V virtualized or private cloud environment using the HP Smart Bundle Essential Rack HA configuration. HP Departmental Private Cloud solution is designed for mid-size customers who want to consolidate multiple application workloads onto a single highly available Hyper-V cluster, or larger customers who need a standardized mechanism for delivering IT services in a branch office, retail outlet, factory floor, or other facility that requires resources outside the main data center. The configuration was designed to strike the best possible balance between delivering high availability and maintaining an attractive price point for budget-constrained IT organizations.

• Improved resource utilization – Get better value from your physical and virtual resources.

• Rapid design and deployment of standardized IT services – Deliver new services in less time; speed return on investment and time-to-value.

• Cost-effective mechanism for disaster recovery – Ensure protection of your information assets, no matter what.

With new features like shared nothing live migration, NIC teaming, Hyper-V replica, and the new multi-device server manager, organizations have everything they need to build and manage a virtualized or private cloud environment.
