Blackwater’s Security Tips for the Holidays

Holidays are indeed a busy time for shopping. Indeed, 16% of US residents still prefer to do their shopping on brick-and-mortar stores.

Unfortunately, many unscrupulous elements are likely to take advantage of this knowledge that you’ll be out shopping! How can you combat them, though?

One of the effective ways to doing so: DON’T tell people that you will be out shopping, particularly on social media! Doing so allows burglars to break into your home without you knowing!

If you do have to leave home, designate a “sitter” for your home, be it in the form of a friend or a neighbor.

When out shopping, make sure that you always have an adult companion. When something goes wrong, it’s easier to ask help when a friend’s around with you.

As much as possible, do your shopping during the day instead of nighttime. Sure, all the cool deals always happen at midnight sales, but it’s seriously not worth the risk.

When you’re in a shopping center, avoid parking next to camper-shelled trucks, vans, or cars with tinted windows. You can never know which persons will be lying there in wait.

Leave all your “precious” belongings at home (yes, even your fancy smartphone). Don’t “tempt” thieves with a reason to steal from you whenever you can help it.

If possible, pay for your purchases using either a credit card or a check. Cash is fine, but avoid carrying huge amounts of it, lest it gets lost or stolen.

Finally, be AWARE of your surroundings from the time you leave your home to the time you get home. Do that, and you’ll be fine!
