pattern.

Create your own rhythm patterns. See if someone in

your house can clap your patterns. Can you add words

to your patterns?

Instant Activity Lesson Reflection

Now practice this:1) Try standing on one foot and lean forward and wave your arms. Are you balanced?2) Try to stand on one foot, extend arms

outward from the body, and do not move. Are you balanced now?3) Demonstrate the balance of standing on one foot- Now try to stand on one foot in self-space as you count for three seconds. Extending your arms outward to maintain stillness.

• Balance on the other foot for 3 seconds (one thousand one, one thousand two, one

thousand three . . . rest) trying not to wiggle or wobble. Focus your eyes on a spot on the opposite wall or look at another person; this

will help you stay very still.• Repeat the task balance on one foot then

the other with eyes closed—just for fun.Let’s see if you can use different bases of

support; try to hold your balance using feet and hands, two feet, one hand and one foot,

two hands, knees and elbows, belly alone, back alone, hip and one hand, hip and elbow. (make up different balancing combinations)

Remember to hold for 3 seconds, one thousand one, one thousand two, one

thousand three . . . rest.

Balance is stillness—no wiggles, no wobbles.

Why do I put my arms out? We put our arms out to help us stand still—to maintain balance.

When you are balanced on one foot, what body part is touching the mat or floor? Your foot. That is your base of support.

When you are seated in self-space, what body part is your base of support? The body parts touching the mat or floor when you balance are called bases of support.

ThursdayKindergarten-1st Grade PE

Complete the Class Stretches:

•Run in place for a count of 30

•10 Jumping Jacks

• 10 Tippy-Toe walks

BalanceToday we are going to study balance. What do you think balance means?Think about it.

Instant Activity Lesson Reflection

Complete the Class Stretches:

• Run in place for a count of 30

• 10 Jumping Jacks

• 10 Tippy-Toe Splits

• 10 Push ups

Practice balancing using these bases of support (the body parts that are on the floor):

• Two hands and two feet • Two hands and one foot• Two feet and one hand• Two elbows and two knees• Two hands, head, and two feet• Two hands, head, and one-foot• Shoulders and upper arms• Stomach only• Back only• One-foot Base of spine only.

Try to hold these for 5 seconds.

Now practice using:WIDE TO NARROW- Balances on wide bases of support, such as feet and hands shoulder-width apart, knees and elbows shoulder-width apart • Balances on narrow bases of support by moving body parts close together.

• Were you able to hold the balances stationary for 5 seconds with no wiggles, no wobbles, and no loss of balance?• Were you able to balance on different bases of support to demonstrate a variety of levels?• Did you challenge yourself for a higher skill level, yet being aware of safety?
