Vita--Born February 6, 1950 in Stamford, CT, married with three children.and two grandchildren.

EDUCATION

Massachusetts Institute of Technology--ScD degree in Civil Engineering, June 1980. Doctoral dissertation "Longshore Currents Generated by Wind, Tide and Waves," prepared under supervision of Professor O.S. Madsen, consisted of an analytical model describing longshore current formation in the offshore zone.

SM degree in Civil Engineering, June 1978. Master's thesis "A Longshore Current Model," again prepared for Professor O.S. Madsen, derived an analytical model of longshore currents induced by breaking waves in the surf zone.

University of Michigan--BSE degree in Civil Engineering, December 1972. Traditional spectrum of Civil Engineering courses with a major in hydraulics and hydrology, accompanied by numerous courses in geology.

Robert S. Kerr Environmental Research Laboratory (1988-1989)--Visiting Associate Professor appointment through the National Center for Groundwater Research while on sabbatical leave. Worked with USEPA scientists on the transport of biologically degraded contaminants through an aviation gasoline plume, including field sampling and analysis.

David R. Pesuit and Associates (1988)--Provided consulting assessment of a groundwater contamination problem. Evaluated the appropriate use of pump tests and mathematical transport models describing a nitrate plume in an unconfined aquifer.

Williston Northampton School (1987)--Assessed drainage problem associated with the School athletic fields in a consulting capacity, including possible sources of local groundwater flow. Provided comments on possible remedial measures as well.

Tighe and Bond Consulting Engineers, Inc. (1986)--Reviewed Draft Environmental Impact Report for proper surface and subsurface hydraulic content associated with proposed development in a rural watershed.

Chris Hosford, Inc. (1983)--In consulting capacity, designed tailrace for a low-head, small-scale hydroelectric facility and estimated water surface profiles and sedimentation potential for low flows as well.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1977-1979)--Teaching Assistant for open channel flow, coastal engineering, and sedimentation courses; duties consisted of homework set correction and associated student tutoring. Research Assistant investigating longshore currents and sediment transport in the surf zone and offshore waters as well.

Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation (1973-1975)--As an engineer in the Environmental Division, coordinated a hydrographic survey and originated the Hydrology and Heat Dissipation System Sections of the Environmental Report of a proposed nuclear power station. Provided hydraulic input to the design of intake structures, circulating water systems, and cooling towers for two proposed nuclear power stations.

Later served in the Hydraulic Division providing hydraulic input to a full scale model study of fish diversion facilities.
