We’re fast tracking a human bionics future that will transform healthcare and change lives.

Our vision is bold, ambitious, but entirely achievable

Bionics Queensland will be a leader among leaders in the Health 5.0 revolution. We will build on the longstanding success of Queensland’s Hear and Say (established by Dr Dornan to teach children how to hear and speak with the Australian invented Cochlear implant) and the work of new bionics pioneers (developing the bionic heart, bionic eye, artificial pancreas and more).

We will link people, science and technologies that have not been connected before. Bionics Queensland will bring people and organisations together to understand the needs of people who will benefit from bionics breakthroughs, to brainstorm challenges in design, manufacturing, clinical practice, resource attraction and the real world use of bionics innovations.

Connecting, creating, collaborating and helping to commercialise bionic healthcare solutions.

We will involve everyday people in bionic healthcare innovations. Bionics Queensland will create pathways for bionics end users and their carers to give their ideas, talk to and engage with those creating new and improved devices and treatments, bringing a new wave of user-friendly solutions to the market. A ‘deep dive’ into the health and lifestyle needs of end users will help today’s researchers to deliver tomorrow's ‘moon shots’ (healthcare solutions that have a tenfold impact on human lives!).

We will lead the way in helping to build a globally recognised bionics industry cluster. We will monitor and accelerate the growth of Queensland’s bionics ecosystem, stimulating knowledge sharing, growing existing businesses and encouraging bionics leaders to relocate to our state.

We will plan and develop a Human Bionics Living Laboratory that benefits all Queenslanders. We will put people living with disabilities and chronic or untreatable conditions in touch with scientists, clinicians, inventors, device designers and product developers. We will boost insights to bionic healthcare options right across Queensland (urban, rural and remote areas).

We are a new, agile and vibrant not-for profit that will bust the silos of endeavour to fast track bionic devices, limbs and prosthetics, artificial organs, brain-computer interfaces, deep brain treatments and wearables.

Our vision is bold, ambitious, but entirely achievable. We’re asking those who are passionate believers, leaders, achievers or champions of change to join us in our important work. Our aim is to change the lives of people around the world who live with complex disabilities, chronic disease and previously untreatable health conditions.

Joining Bionics Queensland is a first step towards helping people to regain their health and lifestyle and look forward to a better tomorrow. >

Dr Dimity Dornan AO Founder of Bionics Queensland and Hear and Say

Delivering Moonshots in Human Bionics

Bionics Queensland has chosen five ‘star gates’ or pathways to deliver ‘moon-shots’ – breakthroughs that deliver a ten-fold impact on human health. Our stargates to achieve these outcomes are: the bionic senses, bionic limbs, artificial organs, neural user interfaces and enabling technologies.

Queensland’s journey began with the bionic senses - the invention of the Cochlear implant (the bionic ear). Supported by Dr Dimity Dornan and her lifelong vision to help children hear and speak, the bionic ear was an Australian-led ‘moon-shot’ that changed many lives.

Bionics Queensland now invites you to join as an Associate or Affiliate to set the scene for new moon-shots – breakthroughs across all five stargates that will result in dramatic and positive changes in public health.

Associates of Bionics Queensland must be organisations (i.e. private, public and not-for-profit entities), while Affiliates can be any individual with an interest in our vision - professionals, students or members of the community. Both categories of participation provide benefits to applicants in line with their annual fees.
