The text message tells consumers they won a free gift card... and all they have to do is click a link and enter their in- formation to receive the prize. Unfortunately, there is no gift card. It’s a scam to steal your credit card number and other personal information. This scam has several ver- sions. In one, the text reads “You just won a free $1000 Walmart Gift Card, enter “1000” at LINK.” In another, it says: “Walmart $1000 Gift Card for the first 1000 users to go to LINK and enter code 2938.” The texts also use different URLs, including: • promocenterdaily.com/wal- mart_gift • promocenter.ws/walmart • walmartgift.mobi “The text message is a twist on the classic email phishing scam, where scammers pose as a legitimate organization and send out emails containing links to scam sites. Phishing scams using SMS technology are known as ‘smishing’, Jim Hegarty said, president and CEO of the Better Business Bureau. When you receive a spam text message on your phone, forward the text to the shortcode 7726 (which spells “SPAM”). You’ll then receive an automated mes- sage from your wireless carrier, asking you then to enter the phone number from which the spam text was sent. SANTEE, Neb. — A free training session on farmers markets will be held at the Santee Community Center at 6 p.m. Mon- day, March 26. The topic for this session will be “Preparing for the Farmers Market and Selling at the Farmers Market.” “Anyone that is interested in buying or selling at a market should plan to attend the workshop,” according to Sandy Pat- ton, coordinator of the former Farmers’ Market Moms Program. “The information will be particularly helpful to beginning gardeners who are considering becoming a market vendor during the upcoming season.” If interested in learning how to suc- cessfully sell garden produce, baked goods, jams and jellies, honey, eggs, arts and crafts, or whatever your specialty you won’t want to miss this free event. Gardening Class Slated For Yankton Library April 5 The Yankton Community Library, 515 Walnut St., is hosting a spring workshop entitled “Starting Seeds, Container Gardening, Basics of Starting A Garden” which will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 5. Master Gardener Mary Klimczyk will teach her method of starting seeds. Master Gardener Betts Pulkrabek will talk on container gardens and the basics of starting a garden. The evening will close with a round table discussion of gardening prob- lems and solutions. Pulkrabek and Klimczyk will sprinkle in plenty of humor in their gardening tips. Currently Bethany works as a Chemical Dependency Counselor at South Dakota Human Services in Yankton, SD. Darin is a diesel mechanic for Truck Trailer Sales and Service, and also farms with his father in Yankton, SD.

Cell phone users across thecountry are receiving suspicioustext messages that claim to befrom Walmart. The text messagetells consumers they won a freegift card... and all they have to dois click a link and enter their in-formation to receive the prize.Unfortunately, there is no giftcard. It’s a scam to steal yourcredit card number and otherpersonal information.

This scam has several ver-sions. In one, the text reads “Youjust won a free $1000 WalmartGift Card, enter “1000” at LINK.”In another, it says: “Walmart$1000 Gift Card for the first 1000

users to go to LINK and entercode 2938.”

The texts also use differentURLs, including:

When you receive a spam textmessage on your phone, forwardthe text to the shortcode 7726(which spells “SPAM”). You’llthen receive an automated mes-sage from your wireless carrier,asking you then to enter the

“Anyone that is interested in buying orselling at a market should plan to attendthe workshop,” according to Sandy Pat-ton, coordinator of the former Farmers’Market Moms Program. “The informationwill be particularly helpful to beginninggardeners who are considering becominga market vendor during the upcomingseason.”
