My Dear St. Bernadette Family, This is the second time we have seen this gospel reading in the Easter Season. Actually, it is a sort of bookend reading. The first was on the Second Sunday of Easter when we focused on the Resurrection of Jesus. Today, as we close the Easter Season we look at the gift of the Holy Spirit given to the church that day.
This Sunday is also the first of three consecutive Sundays which collectively are called the “Feasts of the Lord.” Next Sunday is Holy Trinity and then The Body and Blood of Christ.” These all fit together with today’s gospel. God, who is a trinity of persons, calls us into relationship and empowers that relationship with the gift of the Holy Spirit. This relationship, of love, is accomplished when each of us, like our God, dies to self and lives for the other, the Paschal Mystery.
Not only is this the birthday of the Church, but the birth of all hope. We all wish for a world, a church and a family of healthy loving relationships. This would be the ideal for which we work. Today’s feast tells us this is possible because this is God’s wish as well and we have all the pieces in place now to make it work. Ordinary Time, which is coming soon, is when we will work out the details.
May you be empowered by the Spirit to make those dreams come true!
With love, Fr. Tom
Saint Bernadette Catholic Parish, in the heart of Lakewood, Colorado, is an inclusive Christian
community, committed to the teaching of Jesus Christ. We are strengthened by the Word of
God and the Sacraments, guided by the Holy Spirit, and inspired by our patronesses the Blessed
Virgin Mary, Saint Bernadette Soubirous, and Saint Kateri Tekakwitha. We aspire to live our
faith through the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy and follow our Lord’s command to
call all to discipleship.

St. Bernadette Capital Campaign Prayer
Heavenly Father, we worship and adore you. We thank you for the generous gifts you have bestowed on us your
servants. You have poured out your love on St. Bernadette Parish for over 70 years and we in return offer the service
of our time, talent and treasure.
Lord Jesus, we seek to renew and beautify our church, a sanctuary for those who seek comfort, guidance and truth.
May this place of worship be a safe and holy refuge for those who seek You and your loving embrace.
Holy Spirit pour out your fire upon us as we work together to accomplish these goals you have set before us.
Give us strength, courage and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve You.
We ask all this through the intercession of our Patronesses, Mary, our Mother, St. Bernadette and St. Kateri.
AMEN.

Our final School Mass for this school year will be Friday, June 1st at 8:30 a.m. Please note change from Thursday to Friday. We will resume 8:00 a.m.
Thursday Mass on June 7th.
Thank you to the Catechists of St. Bernadette!
The weekend of May 4th was the final celebration of sacraments for St. Bernadette for this season. It was a gathering of school students, religious education/family formation students, St. Kateri students and one deaf student. It was a beautiful experience with the wisdom of Fr. Ed Ruane, the support of Fr. Tom Coyte, the music of the amazing St. Bernadette choir and dedication of the catechists of St. Bernadette. Over the season of sacramental preparation and faith formation, our catechists dedicate a minimum of 50 hours, but as much as 100 hours of volunteer time to support our community and it’s journey of faith formation. We are blessed to have such dedication in both the formal and informal sense. We would not be able to be a community of faith formation without them.
