Ben Venue Public School…

where great things are always happening!

Welcome to Week 9 Term 4 December 1, 2015

Our Korean visitors departed for Sydney on Sunday after an amazing week. The learning for all was of great benefit in so many

ways. The exchange of presentations and performances at the Thursday Assembly was simply stunning (see photo below).

It just goes to show that language is no barrier to learning or developing friendly relationships. A sincere thank you is due to

the host families who billeted the students, 4/5/6M students for sharing their time and learning with the Korean students and

the Ben Venue community who assisted with the welcome barbecue.

Teachers have been completing reports and organising and attending end of unit excursions in recent weeks. Students

obviously appreciate these opportunities and the feedback about behaviour has been very positive.

There are a lot of assemblies, presentations, events and social occasions on in the next few weeks. Please keep an eye on the

calendar and the timing so students are delivered and collected on time.

Students finish school for 2015 on Wednesday December 16.

Teachers have School Development Days on December 16 and 17.

2W Wow! 2W can’t believe how fast this year has flown

by! The students have worked exceptionally hard over the last term, particularly with completing assessments in preparation for end of year reports. Last week the students enjoyed developing their skills at the gymnastics centre with 2/3E students, as well as building resilience in what was a very hot week. As the weather has been particularly warm, please ensure your child comes to school each day with his or her broad-brimmed hat. Last week, 2W also welcomed Travis Gibbs. It has been great getting to know Travis and the class will enjoy spending their few remaining weeks in Year 2 with him. Over the coming weeks, the students look forward to undertaking many experiments as part of this term’s Science unit ‘All Mixed Up’. They will be predicting what happens when various materials and ingredients are mixed

together and checking their predictions through guided experiments. They may even make something yummy to eat along the way! As they come close to Christmas, the students will be participating in Christmas activities. It would be appreciated if you could check that your child has a glue stick and scissors at school to help them complete such activities. Finally, a massive thank you to all the 2W parents and carers who have contributed to making 2015 a fantastic year. It has been an absolute pleasure teaching your children and I wish you all a safe and happy holiday. Tabatha Wain

AROUND THE CLASSROOMS

Korean Visit and 4/5/6 News A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who assisted with our Korean students’ visit to Ben Venue. Thank you to the host families, Kellie Divall, all the teachers who assisted, and of course Judy for her organisation and much needed help. Everyone had a wonderful time and there were many tears at the airport. On Thursday the Korean students entertained us with the Fan Dance and a routine by some Black belt Taekwondo students. We went to Thalgarrah Environmental Education Centre (EEC) centre for a night. This was quite an eye opener for the Koreans who likened Thalgarrah to Africa. They were astounded and terrified by the snake and the wildlife Matt showed us. On Saturday the Korean students stayed with their host families. Then on Sunday we said a sad farewell at the airport. We have finished our billy carts. All students designed their billy cart models, then they searched for suitable recycled materials to make them, then we set about the long job of actually making our proper billy carts. We need to thank Mr Brian Schaffer for his help. If we did not have Mr Schaffer to help we would have taken a great deal longer to complete our projects. Even Mrs Graham and Mrs Spillane have enjoyed a ride in our carts. Our Billy Cart Day will be on Tuesday, 15 December 2015 at the Arboretum near Armidale High School. We would like to invite students’ parents to join us for some very controlled billy cart activities and a picnic lunch. Mary McConnell

Language Club

The final lesson in 2015 for Monday afternoon Language Club will be held on Monday,

7 December. During this lesson, students will enjoy a range of cultural activities including

food tasting and games from China and Japan. Parents are welcome to come and join in. Please notify the Language Club parents if

your child has any dietary requirements.

A big thank you to the committed volunteer parents who organise the lessons and assist every week.
