Use the lyrics to do an INSERT: Anything that defines a subject mark with an “s”; anything that defines the predicate/verb mark with a “p”.
Work SessionSubject/Predicate Slap JackPlay just like Slapjack. Playing cards contain complete sentences, fragments, or phrases. Evenly distribute cards among players. They flip them over one player after the other looking for the jack. The complete sentence cards are the jack. Students play in pairs, or groups, trying to spot the complete sentence. Whoever slaps the jack first, keeps the jack and any cards underneath it. Students are eliminated when they run out of cards. The student who ends up with all the cards win.
ClosingTicket out the door: Create a sentence. Label the simple subject with an “S” and the simple predicate with a “P.” Underline the complete subject once and the complete predicate twice.
