MESSAGE FROM MRS. KENNAUGHMEAP is quickly approaching for our third through sixthgraders. While it is always important for students to be on timefor school, it is crucial during our MEAP testing days that

students arrive on time. Please do what you can to ensure your

child attends and arrives to school and ready to learn by 8:40;see the chart below for specific dates. Thank you for your

    diligence with this!

Our hallways tend to be crowded in the afternoons just prior to

dismissal. We are requesting that parents and loved ones who

pick up students at the end of the day wait near the front doorfor dismissal. This will assist us with a smooth end to eachschool day.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our PTO Fun Run asuccess! As I type this, I am anxiously wondering if I will soon

be spending a day working on the roof of Beagle! There is stilltime to make that happen! Donations will be accepted throughnext Thursday, October 3.

As always, if you have any questions or would like to discuss

    any concerns, please contact me.

    COUNSELORS CORNER~ Sandy Husted ~

Tardiness can become a chronicproblem for some students. This creaproblems for all students and teachers well. Did you know that the mostimportant learning of the school dayoccurs during the morning? Studentsare the most alert and attentive at this

time of day. As a result, important subject matters andconcepts are taught at this time. When students arrivelate to school, they miss out on some or all of these

important subjects. They also create a distraction whenthey walk into the classroom after other students havealready begun working. Therefore, teachers have to stowhat they are doing, and refocus the group.

Research shows that students who are frequently tardyhave lower grades, lower Grade Point Averages, lowerscores on standardized tests (MEAP), and lowergraduation rates. Chronic tardiness in elementary is alslinked to failure in high school.

TIPS FOR GETTING TO SCHOOL ON TIME:

Plan for the little things that come up. Peoplwho are always on time are really people whoarrive early every day. That way if somethingunexpected comes up, they may not be early, bthey will be on time. (Remember that being otime means being ready to walk into the

    classroom at 8:40 a.m.)

Understand the importance of being on time.Students who are typically on time get bettergrades, and experience more success. This alslays the foundation for the world of work. Hel

your child to develop this good habit that willlast a lifetime.

Make sure your child gets enough sleep. Ifgetting out of bed in the morning is a problemmake a serious effort to get your child to bedearlier. Getting enough sleep also helps studenfocus better in the classroom, and is importantfor good overall health.
