MESSAGE FROM MRS. KENNAUGHOur Beagle staff had a productive professional developmentsession last Friday. We spent time in the morning looking atdata, learning new PBIS strategies, and refining our current

PBIS practices. Grade level teams met in the afternoon to focus

on curriculum and assessment. It was a beneficial day forcontinued professional learning.

Because being present for instruction is so crucial to studentlearning, part of our focus this year is to improve student

attendance and lessen tardies in our school. Each month,

students will be rewarded for meeting our attendanceexpectations; tardies are included in the goal. We will also be

recognizing students who have made improvements in theirattendance or tardies. Please partner with us to ensure your

student(s) get to school on time and attend regularly.

Halloween Party/Parade Info/GuidelinesThis years celebration is scheduled for Thursday, October 31.

This is a full day of school. Since the first half of the day isregular class time, please dress your child in such a manner sohe/she is able to fully participate in classroom activities. Theafternoon festivities will begin with the all-school parade that

begins at 2:00 p.m. Parents and family members are invited to

watch the parade around the track and in the gym since they are

both part of the parade route. Please do not block the hallways,as our students parade through the hallways. The parties will beheld right after the parade, followed by an all-school recess

    from 3:05-3:35.

Here are some guidelines we would like you to consider when

choosing a school-appropriate costume. We believe these willhelp to promote a fun, positive climate to the afternoons

    activities.

Refrain from gory or excessively scary costumes. Costumes promoting violence, blood, indecency or

    involving weapons are not allowed.

Be original, creative and/or funny. Hair color may be worn to school that day, but will not

    be applied a school.

Masks may be worn, but make-up is discouraged due tothe time and assistance needed to apply it.

Many people think bullying is something only boys

do. This may be because boys tend to bully in obvious

ways, such as pushing or shoving. The reality is, girlsbully too.

Girls tend to bully through relational aggression.Relational aggression is described as any behavior that

is intended to harm someone by damaging or

manipulating relationships with others (Crick &

Grotpeter, 1995). While relational aggression cantake many forms, some of the methods include:

Exclusion Ignoring Malicious gossip or rumors Taunts and insults Intimidation Mind games- examples include:

o Telling the individual no one will likeher if she doesnt go along withsomething

o Promising the individual friendship orinclusion if she does go along withsomething

o Switching between acting like a friendand an enemy

Cyberbullying this is using a computer, cellphone or other technology to bully.

Help prevent bullying and its effects. All girls can

    benefit when parents:

Help build self-esteem.o Let your daughter know that her

opinions, strengths and abilities areunique and valuable. Find activitiesthat allow her to show her strengths.

Stay connectedo Spend quality time together and keep

    lines of communication open.

Engage them in healthy activitieso This can help girls meet friends with

similar interests, further developinterests and skills, and feel goodabout themselves.

Monitor computer and cell phone use-a lotof bullying happens online. It can also happen

    in text messaging.
