KENNAUGH With Parent-Teacher conferences sneaking up on us, please be sure to go online to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher. You may access the link from Beagle’s webpage or by going to http://ptcfast.com/schools/Beagle_Elementary. We look forward to talking with you about your child’s progress thus far this year. Please see the enclosed Parent- Teacher conference tips (Maximize Parent-Teacher Conferences) from the National Association of Elementary School Principals. Our staff recently celebrated some exciting data. We track students’ misbehavior so that we can use that data to make sound decisions to improve our learning environment. For example, last year we noticed some issues spiking at the end of recess, so our end-of-recess routine changed; we began having first and second graders go into the cafeteria in the mornings to lessen the noise and opportunity for misbehavior before school. Other tweaks have also been made to help students be successful at meeting our behavior expectations. Our students did a fantastic job through September, which had our daily average of incidences at a point that was below the national norm for a school of our size. Recognizing students for “doing the right thing” and explicitly teaching our expectations is having a positive impact, and our staff is thrilled! Our PBIS team and staff will continue to monitor the data to help ensure students’ academic and behavioral success. As a friendly reminder to parents who pick up their children at the end of the day, if you come into the building, please go into our cafeteria until the bell rings. Clearing the hallways makes a safer, more organized dismissal for our students. Thank you! Sometimes, students forget their homework and need to come back into the school to retrieve it. If that is the case, please escort your child to his/her classroom. As always, if you have any questions or would like to discuss any concerns, please contact me. FALL BOOK FAIR IS COMING!

It’s time for the Fall Book Fair and it will be BIGGER and BETTER than ever before! We invite you to visit our Scholastic Book Fair during conferences and check out hundreds of fun, engaging, affordable books for the whole family to enjoy.

Book Fair Family Shopping hours will be:

Tuesday, Nov. 18th 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 20th 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Friday, Nov. 21st 12:00-3:00 p.m.

Scholastic continues to offer the ONLINE BOOK FAIR shopping too! Beginning November 12th, you can log in to: http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/beagleelementaryschool1 to preview the Fair and shop online from the comfort of your own home! Purchase your holiday gifts ahead of the rush, even after the Fair has closed at school, through December 2nd! Pick up those last few items that were sold out at the Fair. Purchases will be shipped to the school for you to pick up.

We hope you will consider donating a book to your child’s classroom. Our teachers will have a display in the Media Center with books they have chosen that they would love to add to their library of books in their classroom.

Plan to come and enjoy the Book Fair and get a great start on holiday shopping while helping our library grow with the profits we receive from the Fair. Thank you for your support for our school!

DENTISTS R US

Dentists R Us is a community-based mobile dentist program that is coming to Beagle on Wednesday, November 19. Licensed dentists and hygienists will provide dental services with portable equipment on site that day.

Dental treatment includes an oral exam, cleaning, fluoride, sealants, and necessary x-rays. An oral health report and free toothbrush will be provided to each child. Forms went home last week.

STOP IN THE CAFETERIA DURING CONFERENCES

PLEASE check out our lost and found area when you are here for conferences. We will have everything spread out in the cafeteria. Remaining items will be donated to Ken’s closet.

Also located in the cafeteria during conferences will be a collection of pictures that Mrs. Horanburg has taken of our students over the past years. Parents are welcome to stop in and see if there are any pictures they would like.

HONORS GALORE AT BEAGLE!!

First, congratulations to Lisa Scholten for winning the Excellence in Education award sponsored by the Michigan

Lottery! She won $500 for her classroom and $500 for Beagle! She was honored and given the prize at the Breslin Center this past Tuesday. None other than Tom Izzo presented her with the check. How exciting!!!

Our own Diane Horanburg and Patrick Monroe were honored at a Volunteer Appreciation Award Ceremony/Breakfast this last Saturday.

Diane was honored for the numerous hours she spends taking pictures of our students and making those beautiful bulletin boards, for clipping coupons and giving LOTS of stuff away to others, and for being just plain wonderful! THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR BUILDING MORE BEAUTIFUL and for all your selfless acts of volunteerism in our community, DIANE!

Patrick and his wife have donated many hours to this community through the arts and Mudge's Follies. Thanks to both Patrick and his wife for lending their creative energies to our community! It's a better place because of folks like YOU!
