Bio-Degradable Track Mat

Concept:

Is there a cheaper, easier, and environmentally sound method available to provide the same spill/leak protection as the standard track mat?

Bio-Degradable Track Mat

Bio-degradable Track Mat (BDTM) Eliminates the need for railroad track workers to

remove old mat, dispose it, and nail down new mat

BDTM forms an effective “mat” of spill protection that replaces standard track mat

What is BDTM?

BDTM is a natural hydrocarbon absorbent BDTM is a spin off from NASA-developed

technology BDTM consists of an engineered blend of waxes

processed into micro-particles and mixed with other materials for easy handling

These particles absorb diesel, oil, and grease, and provide a barrier between spills and the land and waterways

www.kuresources.com

What is BDTM?

Petroleum penetrates the micro-particles and the combination is a preferred source of nutrients for existing microbes

BDTM is oleophilic (clings to petroleum) yet hydrophobic (repels water)

With the specific gravity of BDTM being greater than oil but less than water, BDTM forms an effective barrier between the ballast and the impact of normal operations

What is BDTM?

BDTM is an absorbent that can survive extreme temperatures and an ideal bioremediation agent within working temps of 40 to 95 degrees F

If outside the ideal, it sorbs the oils and holds them until the conditions improve

If inside that ideal, BDTM serves as a catalyst that enhances the growth of the microbes to degrade both the product and the oil into CO2 and water

No disposal is required

BNSF KC Pilot Test

Selected Three Locations Goose Neck Sibley East Sibley West Plan was for a six-month test with before and after

sampling Recognizing that at TOR locations, more material is

constantly being added

Biodegradable Track Mat Proposal

Proposal Summary KU Resources will supply BDTM as required to

maintain protection We act as the Buyer’s “Warehouse” Material delivered to Buyer’s locations in quantities

as requested KU Resources support as required for training and

informing workers
