Dear Members and Friends of The Metropolitan Museum of Art,

The ancient land of Egypt has enthralled travelers for centuries. No one can fail to be moved by the Great Pyramids, the tombs and temples of Luxor, or the romantic Nile River. Add marvelous Greco-Roman ruins, special entrée to many of these timeless treasures, and a luxury Nile cruise, and you have a journey that is truly unforgettable. Please join me in Egypt this December on a journey back in time.

I am delighted to return to this fascinating country, where I have spent time excavating as a member of The Met’s Joint Expedition to Malqata. I look forward to sharing some of my favorite places with you.

We begin in Giza with three nights at the majestic Mena House, where Winston Churchill and Agatha Christie stayed. We will tour the nearby pyramids, see the Great Sphinx up close on an exclusive visit, and go inside the brand-new Grand Egyptian Museum before flying to Luxor. Admire Tutankhamun’s tomb and explore the less-visited tombs of the nobles before boarding the elegant Sanctuary Nile Adventurer. Ring in the New Year with an onboard celebration, lose yourself in a forest of stone pillars at the Karnak Temple complex, discover the temple of falcon-headed Horus at Edfu, and meet the crocodile god Sobek on a visit to Kom Ombo. Enjoy a relaxing felucca ride in Aswan before flying to Abu Simbel to marvel at the imposing statues of Ramses II and Nefertari, each taller than a six-story building. Conclude in Cairo with visits to the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities; the Museum of Islamic Art; and the vast, splendid Sultan Hassan Mosque.

Egypt is like no other country on Earth. Even if you have visited before, this program will uncover much that is new. I hope you will join me for this exceptional opportunity.

Sincerely, Janice Kamrin Associate Curator in the Department of Egyptian ArtThe Metropolitan Museum of Art
