Maurice and Marilyn Rollins know the importance of having state of the art technology available in our hospital close to home.

Community SupportA strong Hospital is the cornerstone of any community. Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation is committed to providing the community with the highest quality medical care and treatment to those in need. This is done in large part through the charitable

gifts of individuals who share the same vision.Quinte Healthcare – Trenton Memorial was completed in 1951

through the generosity of the community as a tribute to those who served and gave their lives for their country during World War II. We continue to rely on community support to expand and improve facilities, acquire new technology, replace equipment, and provide seed funding for innovative new programs. In turn, people depend on the QH- Trenton Memorial Hospital for excellent

medical care for their loved ones and themselves.

Spectacular VolunteersOur 2009 Gala Chair is Jennifer Rainbird. For well over 3 years, Jennifer has selflessly dedicated countless time and abilities to helping the TMH Foundation. Jennifer is the true definition of someone who is passionate,

committed, and caring.Under Jennifer’s leadership, our gala committee is full of many dedicated volunteers, who work diligently to make the

Gala a celebrated success.

High Priority Medical EquipmentThe Gala committee knows the importance of having excellent medical equipment at QH-Trenton Memorial Hospital.

State-of-the art Equipment helps to:Provide quality health care for all patientsImprove access to more health care services closer to homeAttract and retain medical professionals

There is an ongoing need for the purchase of the newest technology, but also the regular replacement of existing instruments and equipment.

This year’s objective of the Gala is to raise money to buy a Holter Monitor. It is a life-saving device designed to record the heart’s electrical activity. The current system is functional but at the end of its operating life. As Hospital equipment switches to digital, this equipment will no longer be supported. This means doctors cannot back up the data and there is an increased potential for loss.

Rising incidence of cardiovascular diseases has necessitated uninterrupted monitoring of cardiac patients. When symptoms such as dizziness, fainting, low blood pressure, prolonged fatigue, or palpitations continue to occur, the physician may request a Holter Monitor be worn for 24 to 48 hours.

A Holter Monitoring System includes all the tools you need to record, analyze, diagnose, and communicate ECG data — quickly and accurately. It consists of having two electrodes stuck to the patient’s chest and attached to the small recording monitor. The patient then carries the battery-operated monitor in a pocket or in a small pouch worn around the neck or waist and records their daily activity in a journal for the doctor to evaluate.

The heart’s electrical abnormalities may occur spontaneously or after emotional stress or exercise. Some of the electrical disturbances may be life-threatening. The Holter Monitor is not only able to detect abnormal heart rhythms but also to detect if the heart is suffering from lack of oxygen.

3

This Life Saving Device comes at a cost…A Holter Monitor costs $161,000.
