Batteries

A battery is a container that converts chemical energy to electricity.

It can be said that they “store power”

Power Supply

A power supply is a source of electricity for a device or circuit, which converts, regulates, and transmits the external power for the device or circuit.

Why would we use one of these instead of a battery?

Using a Power Supply

1. Check the voltage rating of the equipment (circuit) to be power. Care must be taken not to exceed the rating.

2. Make sure the switch is in the OFF position. Plug the line cord into one of the drop down power sources.

3. Adjust the voltage control to the desired voltage.4. Connect the positive lead (red) of your circuit to the

red output and then the negative lead (black) to the black terminal.

5. Turn on power source.6. When finished disconnect everything in the opposite

order.

Multimeter

Definition: An instrument designed to measure electric current, voltage, and usually resistance, typically over several ranges of value.

What is a Schematic?

A schematic in electronics is a drawing representing a circuit. It uses symbols to represent real-world components and tells you how they connect together.

Simple Complex

Labeling a Schematic

Start from left to right

Use the following L for lamp

Also make sure to label the power supply with the amount of voltage it supplies

Basic Schematic Symbols: Conductors

• The most common symbol seen on any schematic would be that of a conductor. In most cases this would be a wire.

• If wires (components) connect in a diagram, they are usually shown with a dot at the intersection.

• Conductors or components that do not connect are shown with a bridge formed by one wire over the other.
