Barraba Central School Term 1 – Week 3 14 February 2013
Principal’s Report
Week three and our newsletter is constantly evolving in content and look. We have some
very positive feedback from our new look newsletter and are constantly looking for ways
to improve it. This week has been a very busy week to date. In Primary we have had our
Chant and house colour day which was hotly contested between the three houses. The
students looked fantastic and chanted well. The best ‘chanters’ on the day went to Keepit
house – well done to everyone involved.

Primary News
Study Centre Primary study centre commenced on Monday 11 February. The study centre will run each
Monday this term commencing at 3.15pm and concluding at 4pm. All students in Years 3-6 are
welcome and we encourage students to attend. A light fruit snack will be provided. Teachers
will be able to provide help for students at no cost. Please contact the school for further
enquiries.
On Wednesday night I had the pleasure of attending our first P&C meeting for 2013. It
was great to see so many of our parents and community members in attendance. Special
thanks must go to Caitlin Frost who supervised children so more parents could attend.
We hope to see even more parents at our next P&C meeting.
The Secondary swimming carnival was held on Thursday this week due to the change in
dates on the regional calendar and we apologise if this has caused any inconvenience.
On Thursday we had our meet and greet evening for Primary parents to allow parents the
opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher. A sausage sizzle was provided and it was
great to see so many parents in attendance.
To complete this action packed week on Friday we have our Primary induction
assemblies. All parents are invited in at 2.30 in Primary hall. Look forward to seeing
you there!
Next week is a little quieter.

Primary Swimming Carnival
On Wednesday the Primary swimming carnival took place and was a very exciting fun-filled
day for all in attendance with the Champion house being Keepit. All three houses tried really
hard and must be acknowledged for their sportsman-like manner and ‘give-it-a-go’ attitude. A
thank you must also be extended to the teachers for running such a successful carnival. It was
great to see so many family and community members supporting the children and enjoying the
day. Well done!
Our Infants enjoyed a day of playing with ‘bubbles and balloons’ and by all accounts all
students had a fantastic morning.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast club has started again in 2013 with Robin and Mark from Red Cross providing tasty
and nutritious breakfast for students on Wednesdays and Fridays. Thank you gentleman! Robin
and mark are assisted by members of the Junior Red Cross.

Wool Classing Certificates
There are two brochures available at school that outline the Certificate III in wool clip
preparation for owner classers and Certificate IV Wool classing for professional wool classers.
These programs are being offered to community students and to school students but they do
attract an enrolment charge which is listed on each brochure. Concessional enrolments of $100
per course are offered to people receiving some Centrelink payments. Please contact the school
or come to the Secondary office and pick up a brochure.
The courses will start at the Secondary School next Tuesday 19/02/13 at 3:30 to provide
information to prospective students and start the first class with the community students from
Barraba who have already enrolled. This class will run from 4:00 to 6:00 on the first day to
gauge the most suitable time for the group.
World Education Program (WEP)
World Education Program (WEP) Australia is now accepting applications from
students who wish to participate in 2013/14 exchange programs for a summer,

Message from Your P & C
As another year begins the P & C would like to welcome our new Principal and his family to
our school and the Barraba community. We look forward to working with him for the
betterment of our school. It was lovely to see all the new faces of the Kindergarten class and I
am sure it will be no time at all before Mrs Middlemiss has them in routine and learning their
ABC’s. The first meeting of the year saw some welcome new faces. The canteen has been
freshened up over the holiday break and Kelly will be getting new menus out shortly. The Cross
Country Fundraiser will be happening again this year on Monday the 27th of May and we will
be looking for volunteers to make it happen. Details will be provided at a date closer to the
event.
The P & C would like to make it known that although it is an open forum that allows parents to
express and share views and concerns it is not the place for attacks on individuals. Unsigned
vexatious letters defaming individuals will not be tabled. If you have genuine concerns speak to
the teacher concerned, the head teacher or the Principal.
P & C meets every second Wednesday of the month at 6pm in the Primary Staff Room,
with the exception of school holidays when there are no meetings. The AGM will be on
Wednesday the 13th of March and will be followed by the general meeting and all are welcome.
Bring your children along as free supervision will be provided while you are at the meeting. If
you have any questions, concerns or comments but cannot make it to a meeting please feel free
to contact any of the committee members or drop us a letter care of the Schools office and we
will discuss it at the meeting.
