#BCC2017

WELCOME!Welcome to the 18th Baltimore Comic-Con, by far, our most ambitious attempt ever. We have packed the three days with great programming, from Frank Miller and a special performance from Lynda Carter on Friday to celebrating Jack Kirby’s 100th birthday all weekend. The retailers in the room are by far some of the best in the world and have brought to Baltimore the hottest and some of the rarest comics in the world. On Saturday night, we begin an all new chapter in comic book history, as we unveil the first Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards. More folks participated in the voting than anything we have ever done. Votes came in from 100 different countries from all over the world, something everyone should feel very proud about, and it’s only going to get bigger and better. And, as some of you may know or have heard, we are moving our home base, Cards Comics and Collectibles, into the historical part of downtown Reisterstown, MD, to a building five times larger than what we have had. For decades, our new building was a grand old style movie theater, if you can picture that. Have a great time this weekend and please stop by and say hi.Marc NathanBaltimore Comic-Con

BIG, BIG THANKS!Our staff continues to amaze me every year for their attention to detail. Please take time and thank everyone you see in a staff shirt. My personal MVP this year goes to Randy. He accepted and accomplished everything I punted his way.

The Baltimore Comic-Con is proud to announce our 2017 Guest of Honor, Frank Miller. Frank Miller is a comic book writer and artist, a screenwriter, a film director, and a movie producer. Originally from just down the street in Olney, MD, Frank was raised in Montpelier, VT, and eventually found his way to New York City and the comic book industry in the late 1970s. Finding work in Gold Key Comics initially, he went on to work with DC and Marvel. At the latter, after recurring fill-in and cover artist gigs, he took over art and, eventually, writing duties on Daredevil. He co-plotted the Wolverine limited series with Chris Claremont, and would continue working on titles (his own and those of the companies for which he worked) includingSin City, Ronin, Daredevil: Born Again, Elektra Lives Again, The Dark Knight Returns, Sin City, and 300. In addition to his comic book work, Miller wrote the scripts for Robocop 2 and 3, directed the film version of The Spirit, shared directing duties with Robert Rodriguez on the Palme d’Or-nominated Sin City and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and produced the film 300. Eagle-eyed viewers can spot him in cameo roles in Robocop 2, Daredevil, Sin City, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and The Spirit. Miller is known

for creating Elektra for Marvel Comics’ Daredevil series, and a female version of the Robin character, Carrie Kelley, for DC Comics.

Miller will be appearing on Friday only, and a limited number of tickets are available for fan interaction during his appearance.

Lynda Carter Joins Baltimore Comic-Con 2017 for a One-Night-Only Concert The Baltimore Comic-Con is pleased announce a Friday evening event on September 22nd at 7:30pm, featuring a special performance by Lynda Carter as she brings her show, “The Other Side of Trouble”, to “America’s Greatest Comic Book Convention” for a very special 90 minute concert. This is a one-night-only event, so make sure to get your tickets early as it is guaranteed to sell out!

Born in Arizona, Lynda Carter is best known for winning our hearts as TV’s iconic Wonder Woman. In addition to her long acting career, Lynda is also an accomplished singer who has performed to rave reviews before sold-out crowds around the world. Lynda has the distinction of producing and starring in five highly rated CBS television specials, several of which were Emmy Award nominated. She has appeared onstage with many of the world’s most popular singers, including Kenny Rogers, Ray Charles, Tom Jones, George Benson and Ben Vereen.

Lynda made her professional singing debut at age 14 in Tempe, Arizona. In 1972 she won the Miss World-USA title and shortly after outdistanced hundreds of other actresses for the part of Wonder Woman, a character she infused with such depth, humor, and empowerment that it has become one of the most indelible characters in television today. Her fame led to her becoming the “face” of Maybelline Cosmetics, and she remained their top model for over a decade. In addition to Wonder Woman, Lynda’s long and successful career has included starring roles in 2 other television series, Partners in Crime and Hawkeye, starring in numerous movies, and appearing in many television roles on such series as Law and Order and Two and a Half Men. This year, she has a role as the President of the United States on the popular CW series Supergirl, and she will be seen in the upcoming Super Troopers 2 movie.

Please do not ask to e-mail or print out references at the convention.

14. Costumes will be judged on a variety of criteria, including craftsmanship and overall effect.

Baltimore Comic-Con’s Yearbook Returns in 2017 with Tellos!

Continuing our tradition, the Baltimore Comic-Con Yearbook returns in 2017 for the sixth year, celebrating creators appearing at this year’s show. This year’s book of art features interpretations of characters from Tellos.

Beautifully designed by returning guest and Love and Capes creator Thom Zahler, the book comes in a standard and, for VIP ticketholders, a limited VIP cover edition. Tellos is a high-adventure comic book series that, over the course of its 10 issue run, transports you to magikal lands from the farthest reaches of your imagination and introduces you to a cast of colorful characters you won’t soon forget. Created in 1999 by writer Todd Dezago and artist Mike Wieringo, Tellos unspools the tale of a young boy, Jarek, who, along with his sword-wielding Tiger-companion, Koj, find themselves thrust into the roles of

reluctant heroes. Soon teamed with a young pirate captain named Serra, the three embark on a fantastic and mysterious mission to discover where Jarek’s strange new magikal abilities have come from. Oh, and part of that mystery...? Who is the dark and malevolent figure trying desperately to hunt them down and have those powers for his own.

Tellos is a magikal patchwork world made up of a myriad of different realms, populated by creatures of myth and legend. A fantastic land filled with adventure around every corner...and danger at every turn.Once again, our popular scavenger hunt returns

in 2017! When you buy the book, you’ll get a list of Yearbook contributors and their table numbers. If you succeed in your hunt, you can get your choice of bonus prints!

“I have been more than honored to be a guest at the Baltimore Comic Con since meeting the show’s illustrious and gregarious organizer, Marc Nathan, some...fifteen years ago,” quipped Tellos writer Todd Dezago. “One of my favorite people, one of my favorite conventions. So, here’s a cool idea. About six years ago, Marc and his first lieutenant, Brad Tree, create the Baltimore Comic-Con Yearbook, an annual treat that is both a showcase of comicdom’s top talents as well as an instant collector’s item. ‘Yo, Todd--what’s that all about?’, you say? Well, I’m glad you asked. Each year, the Yearbook spotlights a classic or independent comic book series and encourages some of the industry’s top artists to create for us their vision and version of these familiar characters; The Archies Gang, the colorful cast from Frank Cho’s Liberty Meadows, Stan Sakai’s wonderful Usagi Yojimbo, David Peterson’s fantastic Mouse Guard, and Matt Wagner’s Grendel. The book then becomes a map of the show as well, as convention-goers are then directed around the convention hall floor to meet and collect the autographs of the various artists. A fun time is had by all!”

Art created for the Yearbook will be auctioned at the Art Auction on Saturday, September 23rd at 5pm. Fans and art collectors alike won’t want to miss this opportunity!

The Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards is an annual celebration of the creativity, skill and fun of comics. The awards make their debut this year as part of The Baltimore Comic-Con. Unlike other professional industry awards, the Ringo Awards include fan participation in the nomination process along with an esteemed jury of comics professionals. The Ringo Awards recognize outstanding achievements in over 20 categories, and are the only industry awards nominated by fans and pros alike, with final voting by the comic professional community.

DAVID PETERSEN KEYNOTES INAUGURAL RINGO AWARDS The Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards is pleased to announce David Petersen as the inaugural Keynote Speaker. David Petersen is best known as the creator of Mouse Guard. He enjoys fantasy, folklore, myth, and legend. Even more than that, he loves to draw and write about it. A steady diet of cartoons, comics, and tree-climbing fed his imagination and is what still inspires his work today. David won the 2007 Russ Manning Award for Most Promising Newcomer. In 2008, David won the Eisners for Best Publication for Kids (Mouse Guard Fall 1152 & Winter 1152) and Best Graphic Album - Reprint (Mouse Guard Fall 1152 Hardcover). He won the Harvey Award for Best Graphic Album of Previously Published Work in both 2014 and 2015.

“HAVE A GREAT AND SAFE TIME AT THEBALTIMORE COMIC-CON!”

Our first priority at the Baltimore Comic-Con will always be the safety and welfare of our fans, guests, vendors, and the Baltimore community as a whole. It is with this priority in mind, along with new legislation in the City of Baltimore as well as recent tragedies both at home and abroad, that the Baltimore Comic-Con is prohibiting bringing weapons of any kind into the convention.

The new legislation passed in the city of Baltimore makes possession of replica guns illegal. Replica guns are subject to seizure and forfeiture, and certain penalties are imposed for possession. Further details can be found at the following url: https://baltimore.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=2840575&GUID=C68FF372-6696-437B-B4EE-27C0371C25C4

The following list is not meant to be all-inclusive and the Baltimore Comic-Con reserves the right to prohibit additional items not listed in this policy. Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:

• Firearms of any kind (including air soft guns, BB guns, cap guns, paintball guns, and pellet guns)

• Replica firearms (including reproductions, or toy guns that can be confused for actual firearms)

• Any projectile weapons (including blow guns, crossbows, long bows, silly string, slingshots, water balloons, and water guns)

• Bladed weapons (including axes, daggers, hatchets, knives and swords, sword canes, and switch blades)

• Explosives of any type (including black powder, firecrackers, and fireworks)• Chemical weapons (including mace and pepper spray)• Blunt weapons (including bats, mallets, brass knuckles, clubs, and any type

of martial arts weapon)• Prop weapons made of anything besides soft plastic or foam. The

Baltimore Comic-Con reserves the right to deny admission to individuals attempting to bring any prop into the show deemed unacceptable by staff.

Please note that any replica or prop weapon purchased from a Vendor at the convention must remain in the packaging or be taken out of the convention center.

We completely appreciate the time and effort that so many fans and guests put into their costumes and convention attire. Whether dressing for our annual costume contest, cosplay, or simply showing your fandom, we understand that weaponry is often part of the overall presentation. We sincerely hope everyone understands these extra measures that have been designed to preserve a safe and enjoyable environment for all and to ensure compliance with new legislation in Baltimore, and we strongly encourage everyone to continue wearing the costumes on which they have spent so much time and effort.

PLAYING BY THE RULESBaltimore Comic-Con’s mission is to create a safe and entertaining environment where fans of all kinds can come together.
