TRANSCRIPT
DescriptionUNA 3.. are steam traps with ball float and needle valve for high-pressure applications. The steam traps can be used for all operating conditions, as they are unaffected by back pressure. The steam trap UNA 3.. consists of a body with bolted cover and a control unit. Various control units are available for the steam trap. The control unit SIMPLEX is a level-dependent float controller and especially suitable for cold condensate and superheated steam. The control unit DUPLEX (UNA 38) is a float controller with automatic and temperature dependent deaeration facility by means of a bimetallic air vent. The control unit DUPLEX is suitable for saturated steam and superheated steam. The control unit with orifice (O) 80 MAX (UNA 38) is de-signed for large flowrates and high pressures and available as SIMPLEX or DUPLEX version. The control unit with orifice (O) 140 MAX (UNA 39) is a SIMPLEX control unit for large flowrates and high pressure.
FunctionAs the condensate flows into the steam trap it operates the float, which in turn opens the rolling ball valve of the control unit, and in doing so uncovers the discharge passage. The cross-sectional area of the orifice dictates the max. flow-rate when the discharge passage is completely open. The max. allowable differential pressure of the control unit used depends on the cross-sectional area of the orifice and the density of the fluid to be discharged.UNA 38 with control unit Orifice 80 MAX and UNA 39 with control unit Orifice 140 MAX:The float controls a pilot valve as a function of the condensate level in the steam trap. If more condensate flows through the pilot valve out of the control chamber than follows through a balance opening, the pressure in the control chamber drops and the bellows of the control chamber is compressed. The main valve then opens and the condensate is discharged. The flowing condensate moves the float ball upwards and the pilot valve closes. The vent hole ensures that the pressure between the control chamber and the interior of the steam trap is evened out such that the main valve closes. The size of the cross-sectional area of the pilot valve and the main valve ensures only one orifice (O) is needed for the entire range of differential pressure up to 80 bar (or 140 bar).

Capacity ChartsThe chart shows the maximum capacities for hot condensate for the respective orifice.
The capacities are dependent on the differential pressure (working pressure).
The differential pressure is the difference between inlet and outlet pressure and depends among other things on the run of the condensate line.
If the condensate downstream of the trap is lifted, the differ-ential pressure is reduced by 1 bar for 7 m lift.
The maximum admissible differential pressure is dependent on the cross-sectional area of the orifice and the density of the liquid to be discharged.
The charts show the maximum capacities for hot condensate.
The max. capacity of cold water that the steam trap with control unit SIMPLEX or DUPLEX can discharge is: Capacity multiplied by factor F.

Capacity Chart
The chart shows the maximum capacity of hot condensate for float-controlled orifices (O). The cold water capacities are: Capacity mul ti pli ed by factor F.The capacities are dependent on the differential pressure (working pressure). The differential pressure is the dif-ference between inlet and outlet pressures and depends among other things on the run of the condensate line. If the condensate downstream of the trap is lifted, the differen-tial pressure (working pressure) is reduced by approximately 1 bar for 7 m (or 2 psi for 3 feet) lift. The maximum admissible differential pressure is depend-ent on the cross-sectional flow area of the orifice and the density of the liquid. The standard designs of the traps for conden sate from steam are available for the following maximum differential pressures:UNA 14: up to 4 or 13 bar.UNA 16, 16A up to 4, 13 or 22 bar.

Inspection & CertificationDocumentation regarding material tests and in-house ex- amination with test report EN10204 available. All inspection requirements have to be stated with the enquiry or order. After supply of the equipment certification cannot be established. Charges and extent of the above mentioned test certificates as well as the different tests confirmed therein are listed in our Price List „Test and Inspection Charges for Standard Equipment“. For other tests and inspections than those listed above, please consult us.
Application of European DirectivesPressure Equipment DirectiveThe equipment conforms to this directive and can be used for the following media:
UNA 14, UNA 14P■ Fluids of group 2
UNA 16 and UNA 16A (stainless steel)■ Fluids of group 1■ Fluids of group 2
ATEX-RichtlinieThe equipment does not have its own potential ignition source and is not subject to this directive.
When installed, static electricity may arise between the equipment and the connected system. When used in po-tentially explosive atmospheres, the plant manufacturer or plant operator is responsible for discharging or preventing possible static charge.
If it is possible for medium to escape, e.g. through actuating mechanisms or leaks in threaded joints, the plant manufac-turer or plant operator must take this into consideration when dividing the area into zones.

Ball Float Steam TrapUNA 45, UNA 46, UNA 46APN 40/Class 300DN 15, 20, 25, 40, 50, 65
DescriptionFloat traps type UNA 45 are designed for removing conden-sate from steam or compressed air.Float traps type UNA 46 and UNA 46A are designed for remo-ving condensate from steam or other gases / gas mixtures.Equipment fitted with control unit SIMPLEX and SIMPLEX-P is operated and controlled by the float and the rolling ball. Equipment with this type of control unit is particularly suitable for cold condensate and cold distillates. The rolling ball of the control unit SIMPLEX-P is made of Perbunan® rubber, which ensures tight shut-off of the seat.Equipment with control unit DUPLEX may also be used for air venting the installation. This type of control unit is parti-cularly suitable for saturated steam systems. The control unit DUPLEX consists of a float operated rolling ball valve and a temperature dependent air-venting facility. Do not expose the membrane regulator capsule of the DUPLEX control unit to superheat conditions above 5 K.By means of the externally adjustable internal bypass it is possible to adjust a bypass passage that flows past the control unit. The equipment must only be used within the allowable pres-sure and temperature limits and only if the chemical and corrosive influences on the equipment are taken into account.
FunctionThe control unit opens the orifice as a function of the liquid level. A rising level results in a proportional opening of the equipment. The max. discharge capacity depends on the orifice size when the ball is completely lifted off its seat and the orifice is fully open.
Optional extrasVent hole and drain holeFloat-lifting lever allows the float to be manually lifted (for purging any dirt away from the seat area)Hand-vent valve allows manual air-venting the pipelineStrainerHorizontal flow direction (hr) from left to right (when viewed from the body end)Control unit SIMPLEX-P with Perbunan® rolling ballExternally adjustable inner bypassSightglass cover PN 16/CL 150Special cover for installing measuring electrodes NRG 16-19 or NRG 16-27

Capacity ChartThe chart shows the maximum capacities for hot condensate for the various orifices. The capacities are dependent on the differential pressure (working pressure). The differential pressure is the difference between inlet and outlet pressure and depends among other things on the run of the condensate line. If the condensate downstream of the trap is lifted, the differential pressure is reduced by approximately 1 bar for 7 m lift. The max. admissible differential pressure is a function of the cross-sectional area of the orifice and the density of the fluid to be discharged. The graphs in the chart show the hot water flowrates that the steam traps UNA 45, UNA 46 and UNA 46A can discharge with virtually no banking up.The cold water capacities of steam traps with control unit SIMPLEX / DUPLEX are: Capacity multiplied by factor F.

Ball Float Steam TrapUNA 45 MAX, UNA 46 MAX, UNA 46A MAXPN 40/Class 300DN 40, 50, 65
DescriptionUNA 45 MAX, UNA 46 MAX and UNA 46A MAX are items of equipment for the steam process designed for the effective removal of condensate from steam. The ball float opens the orifice as a function of the liquid level. A rising level results in a proportional opening of the equipment. The max. discharge capacity depends on the size of the fully open orifice (O).As the float rises with the liquid level it pulls the nozzle stem off the pilot valve, allowing a small amount of fluid to flow through the pilot valve. The fluid compresses the bellows of the control unit and, as a consequence, the discharge orifice is completely uncovered.Equipment with control unit SIMPLEX is particularly suitable for cold condensates and superheated steam.Equipment with control unit DUPLEX may also be used for air venting the installation. The control unit DUPLEX consists of a float and a temperature dependent air-venting facility. The air venting is controlled by the membrane regulator. Equipment with this type of control unit is particularly suitable for saturated steam systems. Do not expose the membrane regulator capsule of the DUPLEX control unit to superheat conditions above 5 K.The optional float-lifting lever allows you to lift the float manually. The optional hand-vent valve allows you to air vent the pipe manually. The equipment must only be used within the allowable pressure and temperature limits and only if the chemical and corrosive influences on the equipment are taken into account.
FunctionThe control unit opens the orifice as a function of the liquid level. A rising level results in a proportional opening of the equipment. The max. discharge capacity depends on the orifice size when the ball is completely lifted off its seat and the orifice is fully open.
Optional extrasStandard cover with two lateral connections (with sealings plugs) for later attachment of measuring electrode and/or manual float-lifting leverFloat-lifting lever allows the float to be manually lifted (for purging any dirt away from the seat area)Hand-vent valve allows manual air-venting the pipelineHorizontal flow direction (hr) from left to right (when viewed from the body end)Sightglass cover PN 16/CL 150Special cover for mounting measuring electrode NRG 16-19 or NRG 16-27

Capacity ChartThe chart shows the maximum capacities for hot condensate for the respective orifice. The capacities are dependent on the differential pressure (working pressure). The differential pressure is the difference between inlet and outlet pressure and depends among other things on the run of the condensate line. If the condensate downstream of the trap is lifted, the differential pressure is reduced by 1 bar for 7 m lift. The maximum admissible differential pressure is dependent on the cross-sectional area of the orifice and the density of the liquid to be discharged. The charts show the maximum capacities for hot and cold condensate.

Capacity ChartThe chart shows the maximum capacities of hot condensate for the range of orifices (O) and sizes available. The cold water capacities are: Capacity of hot condensate multiplied by factor F.
The capacities are dependent on the differential pressure (working pressure). The differential pressure is the difference between inlet and outlet pressures and depends among other things on the run of the line. If the condensate downstream of the trap is lifted, the differential pressure (working pressure) is reduced by approximately 1 bar for 7 m (or 2 psi for 3 feet) in lift.
The maximum admissible differential pressure is dependent on the cross-sectional area of the orifice.
The standard design of the trap is available for a maximum differential pressure of 45 bar (650 psi), see thick lines in the chart.
If, however, larger capacities are required, special orifices are available for differential pressures of:28 bar (405 psi) or16 bar (230 psi)(dashed lines in the chart).
When ordering please state:Inlet pressure, outlet pressure, quantity of condensate to be discharged, design, size and desired orifice, position of the trap and details of application.
The following test certificates can be issued on request, at extra cost:In accordance with EN 10204-2.1, -2.2, -3.1A, -3.1B and -3.1C.
All inspection requirements have to be stated with the order. After supply of the equipment certification cannot be esta-blished. For tests and inspection charges please consult us.
