To thee, dear College, do we raise
Our voices in acclaim.
And memories of yesteryear
Shall cluster 'round thy name;
And as we sing our College song,
Unfurl the banners free

DEDICATION
ROCKWELL SMITH BOYLE
All adjectives of the English Language seem inadequate in
devising an appropriate description of our "Grammar-pro-ducing genius". His inexhaustible source of knowledge,
his extraordinary wit. and his great understanding have
made him loved and respected by all. Some think that
the diamond is the most valuable stone; but, in our estima-
tion, our "Rock" takes top honors.

LITERARY SOCIETY
Charles McCoy President
Ronald Calcote .......... Vice-President
John Beaslev Sccret.irv
The Literary Society, under the careful guidance of Professor Robinson, launched the year's program withseveral fiery debates. Mi'ith a picked team to represent P. J. C. the Literary Society entered a state-wide
debate tournament in Monroe. N. C. and emerged with third place. No sooner had the team accustomedthemselves with P. J. C. in general than they were put on the road again. Their destination this time wasLeas-McRae Junior College where they met the crack debating teams of the Southeast. Due to inexperience,
the boys were swept off their feet in verbal combat. On April the seventh the debating team steps up a
notch by entering the national debating contest to be held in Charlotte. Among the many accomplish-
ments with which the Literary Society has been accredited, the most surprising was the joining of the
National Forensic Fraternity, Phi Rho Pi. Here goes the best of luck to the Zcta Chapter of the Phi RhoPi, and may it argue itself to fame and fortune.
WINGS
The purple shadow, of a pa„i„s plane gl.de silently ae,,ss the can,pus-,ts wings over P. J. C! S.nce
.939 dronmg motors have swooped low over the traditional dome and have interrupted our classes. Presby-terian Junior College has seen the modern trend swing upward toward the blue skies and through thefacilities of the United State, Government has ,ns:alled a Civilian Pilot Training Unit. Now, air-mindedstudents sprout w.ngs and fly with a thorough knowledge of aircraft. Remember, fellows, as you pilot
the ship of life you are destined to run into fog or other troubles. Always keep your chin up and your eyeon the instruments and you will pull through. You have a toolkit of knowledge received from your AlmaMater; use it, and you can avoid engine trouble. Th, B.gf'P'' hopes you will always have a hand on thethratdc and wishes I'or yuu 3 ii.ippy t-ligln.
GLEE CLUB
Under the able direction of Mr. and Mn;. Ponisli, this year's Glcc Club has far surpassed all expectations.
This singing group has taken part in many school programs, church programs, and has aided other outside
organizations. Constant practice (at least Dean Crawford announced it quite often) has developed excellent
vocal chords in P. J. C. Director Ponish i>> now getting his boys in shape for his Spring Recital, which is
expected to be a remarkable success.

ATHLETICS
FOOTBALL
As far as football was concerned ... we came ... we saw ... we lost. Although bad luck en-
veloped our battling eleven, a spirit existed that could not be bcked. Ben Floyd "snake-hipped" his wayinto "pay-dirt" territory several times during the season Rouse Lupton and Captain Harold Sivertsen
urged the team on and kept the fans on edge with their thrilling playing. This year the "Scocties"
suffered a heavy schedule but showed some real fight in the gridiron classics of the year. While the
opponents possessed the ball the boys followed the true Scotchman spirit—they were stingy with every
yard. With most of the football team clad ,n cap and s"wn at the end of this year, the pigskin
responsibilities will lie on the flashy Freshmen who displayed some outstanding playing this year, particu-
larl)- "Bud" Langston and Jim Corbett.
SPORT GLANCES
r
BASKETBALL
Tlic Presbyterian Junior College "Scotties" trotted out on the court to start the 194, basketball season
in a big way. and once afiain they met terrific opposition. Strong teams such as Campbell, Wingate. and
E. M. I. swooped down upon our gallant quintet. Although the visitors went away few points to the
good, they .admitted that the game was not won without a terrific fight. Stars such as Lester Coleman,
Lawton Douglass, and Harold Sivertsen p,l,)ted the maroon-clad players across court to victory and lifted
the wet blanket of utter defeat. Although the "Scotties" will not have these men in next year's line-up,
promising Freshmen such as Seay, Turnley, Robb. Thomas, and Murdock, who made an excellent showing
this year, may sink the baskets for our dear Alma Mater next year.
BASEBALL
As The Bagpipe goes to press before the season gets underway, it's difficult to say what this year's teamwill do; but from the looks of the boys in practice, and the Coach's expression, ye ole annual seriously
believes that P. J. C. is headed for a year of victories. Captain Carmichael, that all-around star of the
diamond, seems to be in excellent condition and will be expected to handle the bulk of the work on the
mound. The only old players back this year, other than ,\llen. are .Mdlard Perkmson and Lester Coleman, who w,ll cover third and second, respectively. The hole left in the team by the absence of formerstars will be filled m by promismf Freshmen such .,s Harold Turnley. Jim Corbett. and Wayne Thomas.

DEAR "FELLOWS":
At the close of so many hours of planning and work by
the staff . . . any message we might add in this, our
own farewell, would savor a bit of self praise.
Yet, as we must part on the crossroads of life we, the
staff, wish to express our appreciation to each of you
who have so obligingly contributed to our endeavors.
Our hope is that you may derive some pleasure from the
pages of this annual in some distant future and recall
the pleasant memories which we have experienced in
association with you all. And now, please go away and
let us catch up with some long-lost sleep
!
