The Baby Moves journey – What is Baby Moves? Baby Moves is an award winning, unique

physical development, music and sensory

programme especially developed to work with

babies from birth and their parents or carers.

The baby and toddler is the heart of everything

we do and the Baby Moves and Toddler Moves

training programmes are endorsed by CACHE

(Council for Awards in Care, Health and

Education).

Our child centred Baby Moves Neuro Gym

installation and programmes respect how babies

grow and develop and follows this growth at

the baby’s own pace rather than being imposed

upon them by adults. Baby Moves links the latest

neurological brain research and theories of

child development with simple activities which

support all those who work with babies from birth

along with their parents and families.

The programme has now been recognised

nationally and is being used within nurseries, pre-

schools, children’s centres, museums and soft

play centres. The Baby Moves and Toddler Moves

programmes are fully linked to the Early Years

Foundation Stage (EYFS), the national guidelines

and requirements for all those working with

babies and children under five years in England

and Wales, and are compatible with Education

Scotland’s Pre-birth to Three curriculum.

Baby Moves Neuro Gym The Baby Moves Neuro Gym has been designed

by our team of professional early years educators

and trainers specialising in early childhood

physical development and education. After

researching how babies grow and learn, they

linked both the theory and practice to create

the Baby Moves programme and Baby Moves

Neuro Gym. Since then Baby Moves has gone

from strength to strength now being used by

many professionals up and down the country.

Our highly professional team are speakers

and trainers and work closely with education

consultants and run seminars and workshops

across the country for education authorities.

Baby Moves have been the winners of the

prestigious Practical Pre-School awards for the

last seven years since 2008.

Olwyn Maurer and Sue Sutherland are the

founders of Baby Moves and the Baby Moves

Neuro Gyms. Olwyn has been a professional

dancer with the Royal Northern Ballet, and

holds a post graduate degree as a dance artist

in education, and Sue is a creative therapist

and teacher of children with severe learning

difficulties and has recently completed a MA in

Early Childhood Education.

Now the Science Bit!The Baby Moves Neuro Gym range is the perfect

addition to any child care setting. Each piece

of equipment has been especially designed in

line with recent neurological research into how

children’s brains and bodies grow and develop.

Encouraging children to move their right and

left sides in opposition, called cross lateral

movements, as demonstrated in crawling

and ones which cross over the midline,

separating the right and left sides of the body,

have been shown to be greatly beneficial to the

child’s developing brain.

The black and white Baby Moves Neuro Gym

with bold geometric patterns has been designed

specifically to support a baby’s visual perception

which begins at birth and is not fully developed

until two years of age. Colours with a high

contrast, such as black, white and red encourages

babies to focus both eyes together, developing

depth perception. The critical period for binocular

function, as both eyes are beginning to work

together, is from six month and peaks at one to

two years of age.

The Neuro Gym range is also perfect for children

with a range of special educational needs,

including children with a visual impairment.

All children, whatever their age or perceived

ability, are stimulated to discover their

movement potential as their world opens

up a wealth of opportunity.

This award winning programme is created for

the ages and stages through which babies and

children develop. It has been extensively field

tested within a multitude of venues and places

and is loved by early years educators, parents,

babies and children alike. We have carefully

developed each piece of equipment in line with

current neurological and child development

research creating the most up to date child

carefully linked to the EYFS, supporting your

Now the safety bit!All of our Baby Moves Neuro Gym equipment

is made in the UK, and covers all the necessary

safety requirements, such as fire and toy

safety, including migration of elements.

Our manufacturer adheres to these strict

requirements and even goes above and beyond

what is required by UK law, ensuring the best

possible safety for your children.

Each piece is not only safe, but also of good

quality and durable, made from wipe clean

phthalate free PVC, and the black and white

checked material has a special coating which

repels liquids and is wipe clean.

There are two ways in which you can install the

Baby Moves Neuro Gym and access the training

1. Book an INSET course for your staff, and we

will send a registered Baby Moves trainer into

your nursery to complete your Baby Moves

training and become a registered Baby Moves

Neuro Gym setting, enabling you to deliver

your Baby Moves programme within your very

own Neuro Gym.

Or

2. Send one person to qualify as a Baby Moves

practitioner at the Baby Moves Neuro Gym in

Lancashire to train to deliver the programme

within your registered Baby Moves Neuro

Gym. Places are available for additional

members of staff at an extra cost.

Now the money bit!To become a registered Baby Moves Neuro Gym

there is a monthly licence subscription fee of £50

pcm for a nursery or setting. We offer corporate

licences for chains and groups of nurseries, if you

have two nurseries you will pay £70 per month,

three nurseries will pay £90 per month and four

nurseries will pay £100 per month. If you are a

chain of five or more please apply for the going

rates for the size of your chain.

Toddler Moves (Price on application)

We like to celebrate our active terrific toddlers

and provide a special Toddler Moves programme

just for them following on from Baby Moves.

Based upon the natural developmental

movement patterns of small children and

traditional British nursery rhymes we give each

toddler the opportunity to move, talk, play and

explore within their own special environment

which we show you how to create for yourself.

You may also upgrade your Baby Moves

programme to include Toddler Moves, with an

extra training day for your staff, this may be

carried out during your initial Baby Moves training

or at a later date. There is no additional licence

subscription fee for Toddler Moves, and you will

receive the following as part of your training.

Baby MovesBaby Moves celebrates how wonderful babies

are and how ready they are to engage with the

big wide world. Baby Moves is a multi-sensory

physical development and music programme

especially designed for babies from birth to when

they just begin to toddle. Giving opportunities for

communication between adults and babies and

between one baby and another, with plenty of

time for physical development. We show you how

to provide a sensory message, sensory activities,

physical development activities and plenty of

ideas for communication.
