Share this email: City of Independence issues new Health Order as COVID-19 cases once again increase Cases are once again increasing across the State of Missouri. In response to this, Mayor Weir in collaboration with the Independence Health Director issued a Health Order formalizing the July 9 Public Health Advisory on July 28. This Health Order encourages the public to wear a mask when indoors, regardless of vaccine status. As part of this announcement, the City announced masks would be required in all City facilities for staff and visitors. Read the full press release at indep.us/healthorderjuly28. Celebrating Missouri's Bicentennial Join us on August 14 at the National Frontier Trails Museum for a day celebrating the history of the State of Missouri and the unique role Independence has played. 10 am to 4 pm – National Frontier Trails Museum open for self-guided tours including the newly restored Pioneer Cabin and a Special George Caleb Bingham exhibit. 11 am and 1:30 PM – Enjoy a 30-minute show from the Puppetry Arts Institute “Missouri Birthday Bash” – A Bicentennial Revue11:30 am to 12 pm – Listen to the Oregon Trail Suite 12 pm to 1:30 pm – Oregon, California and Santa Fe Trail experts will share the unique roll Missouri and Independence played in the westward expansion. 2 pm to 2:15 pm – Presentation of newly created song for the City of Independence 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm – Free Ice Cream Social Also enjoy free tours of the historic Chicago-Alton Depot, Vaile Mansion and Bingham-Waggoner Estate. Donations will be accepted. Join the August Community Clean-up The Independence Sustainability Commission invites you to join them for the August Community Clean-Up Event at Santa Fe Park on August 21 from 9-11AM. Participants are asked to dress appropriately and be prepared for walking through grass and brush. If the event is canceled due to weather or other circumstances, a notice will be sent out, the night before, on the City’s social media accounts. Those that sign up will also receive an email notifying them of the cancellation. Look for more of these events around our community each month. Cars will be on display for the public on the historic Independence Square on August 2 between noon and 7 p.m. Teams will begin their race following the historic Santa Fe Trail at 9 a.m. on August 3. Farmers Market, Wednesdays and Saturdays Join us on from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays for the Farmers Market at the Independence Uptown Market, 210 W Truman Rd. Family Fishing Fun, Aug. 7, 9AM - 1PM Join us at George Owens Nature Park, , on August 7 for a fun day of fishing. Poles, bait, expert advice and fish. Fun for all your family and all free. Vaile Mansion Attic Sale, Aug. 7, 9 AM - 2 PM Come find some treasures and help support the upkeep of the Vaile Mansion, 1500 N. Liberty St. Drop-off Depot, Sat., Aug. 14, 8 AM-3PM The August Drop-off Depot will take place on Sat. , Sept. 12 from 8AM- 3PM at 875 Vista Ave. Masks are required.
