The Spiritual Gifts Discernment Process begins with the premise that we share the same faith in the Risen Lord and that we share our membership in the Body of Christ. As members of the Body of Christ we are called to recognize that everyone of us has gifts which are useful and even necessary to the work of God in and through the church. Those gifts are not the same for everyone; each of us has something different that we can offer and no one gift is better than any other gift. All our gifts are precious and are necessary for the life and ministry of the church. Following are some other spiritual gifts with their descriptions; hopefully you will develop a better understanding of the gifts and your recognition of those gifts in your own spiritual life.
Craftsmanship: To exercise the gift of crafts-manship one must have or develop a skill, be it a hobby or a vocation and must be willing to share this ability with others either in finished products or in teaching others the skill. This gift involves an art or craft or skill, from painting to pottery, to woodwork or weaving, computer skills or photography—any art or craft that can be used to the glory of God. Manifestations of this gift can be found in Exodus 28: 3-4, Jeremiah 18: 1-6 and in Exodus 35: 35. Discernment: The Holy Spirit enables some of us to discover the will of God. To exercise the gift of discernment is to distinguish between truth and error, to identify whether something is
of God. This gift involves wisdom and prayerfulness. Manifesta-tions of this gifts are found in Proverbs 17:24, Hosea 14:8-9 and the Acts of the Apostles 5:3-6. Evangelization: The Holy Spirit enables individuals to share the Gospel with others in such a way that they come to know God. To exercise the gift of evangelization is to share one’s faith within and beyond the parish. This gift involves an unabashed willingness to share the Good News and one’s personal faith journey. Manifesta-tions of this gift are found in the Acts of the Apostles 8:26-40 and in II Timothy 4:5. Encouragement (Exhortation): Empowered by the Holy Spirit, some persons are called to stand beside other people who are in need and bring comfort, counsel and encouragement so they feel helped. To exercise the gift of encouragement is to call forth the best from others. This gift involves helping others to be more dedicated in living out their faith, bolstering them up when they are discouraged or downhearted and challenging them to see the goals to which God calls them. Manifestations of this gift can be found in the Acts of the Apostles 11:23-24 and 14: 21-22.
All gifts are precious and necessary in the life and ministry of the Church!

COMMUNITY CATECHESIS
God answers all our needs Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Week of August 3, 2014
Listen to the Word (Romans 8:35, 37-39) What sensation did you feel as you listened to this reading? What
touched you in St. Paul’s words?
Look into Your life Question for children: What are the ways that Jesus shows he loves you? Question for youth: Jesus was very attentive to his followers. He cared for them and for their needs. What are your needs? What can Jesus do to help you? Question for adults: In your experience, what “false obstacles” have you or people you know experienced separating them from Christ? Things such as divorce? Or marrying outside the church? Or not attending Mass? Or others?
Activities for the week Take these activities to further reflect:
• Jesus told his disciples to feed those in need. Reflect on how Jesus can feed others through your family. Plan a trip to our soup kitchen. If possible, make arrangements to prepare and serve the food.
• How does your family practice hospitality? Discuss ways that your family can welcome others in need.
• Clean out your closets. Most families have an abundance of clothing that is packed in closets and dresser drawers. Have each family member stack that clothing in a box. Together take the boxes to a homeless shelter, Goodwill, St. Vincent de Paul, Must Ministries or any other agency that is in need of clothing.
• Share with others the abundance of God’s love. Invite a guest or another family to share a meal in your home.
CATEQUESIS COMUNITARIA
Dios responde a todas nuestras necesidades.
Invite a alguien o a otra familia
a compartir una comida en su hogar.

Stewardship by the Bible
AUGUST 3, 2014 EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME “The hand of the Lord feeds us,” sings the psalmist; “He answers all our needs.” Often, though, it is with the open hands of generous stew-ards willing to share his many gifts that God’s people are fed and their needs met.

Loving Father, in your infinite compas-sion, we seek your divine protection for refugee children who are often alone and afraid. Provide solace to those who have been witnesses to violence and destruction, who have lost parents, family, friends, home, and all they cherish due to war or persecution. Comfort them in their sor-row, and bring help in their time of need. Show mercy to unaccompanied migrant children, too, Lord. Reunite them with their families and loved ones. Guide those children who are strangers in a foreign land to a place of peace and safety. Comfort them in their sorrow,
and bring help in their time of need. Show us how we might reach out to these precious and vulnerable children. Open our hearts to migrant and refu-gee children in need, so that we might see in them your own migrant Son. Give us courage to stand up in their de-fense against those who would do them harm. For this we pray through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
