campus life at trucampus life at truCampus Activity Centre
Better known as the CAC, the Campus Activity Centre is located at the hub of campus.
The CAC houses TRU’s bookstore, Heroes Pub, the Terrace Cafeteria and the Grand Hall.
It’s also a great place to hang out with friends or meet for a casual study session.
The Tournament Capital Centre and Canada Games Pool
The TCC is a sprawling state-of-the-art fitness centre — located on TRU’s campus and operated by the City of Kamloops — that includes a full work-out area, a fieldhouse and indoor track and the Canada Games Pool.
TRU students with a U-Pass get free access to the pool and can pay to upgrade and receive full facility access (see Page 23 for details).
The TCC is home to the TRU WolfPack basket-ball, volleyball teams and soccer teams play at adjacent Hillside Stadium.
Student StreetLocated in the west wing of Old Main Building, Student Street is an
open area furnished with tables and chairs for eating, studying or just hanging out.
Just off Student Street is the TRU Art Gallery — a place for students, faculty and visitors to showcase their own work and enjoy that of others.
Student mediaTRU students looking
to take part in campus media have two options — print or broadcast.
The Omega, TRU’s inde-pendent student news-paper, publishes every Wednesday.
CFBX 92.5 FM — The X — is always looking for students to get involved.

Campus recyclingDid you know you can drop off your paper, cardboard,
beverage containers, old textbooks and toner cartridges right on campus?
Recycling stations can be found in most major buildings on campus and old newspapers can be recycled in contain-ers appropriately marked “Newspaper Recycling” next to all Omega newsstands.
All major buildings have beverage-container recycling stations and old textbooks can be disposed of at the TRU Bookstore.
For recycling of toner cartridges and phone books, go to the TRU Stores Department.
To learn more about how to find off-campus locations where you can recycle other materials — like batteries, paints, plastics, magazines and old light bulbs — log on to tru.ca/facilities/coreservices/recycling/recycling_directory.
TRU is lucky to have a beautiful campus —let’s do what we can to keep it that way

Heroes Pub: Located in the Campus Activity Centre, Heroes is an on-campus bar/restaurant featuring pub food and drink specials.
Tim Hortons: The Brown Family House of Learning is equipped with a full-service Tim Hortons location, comple-menting the smaller Timmy’s on Student Street in Old Main.
Montague’s Deli: Also in Old Main, Montague’s serves up sandwiches and has microwaves to use if you packed your lunch at home.
Terrace Cafeteria: On the second floor of the Campus Activity Centre, the Terrace Cafeteria is a food court open all day during fall and winter semesters, featuring eats from Pita Pit, Home Zone, Grille Works, Bene Pizza & Pasta, Salad Garden and Fresh Express.
International Cafe: Located inside the International Building, this popular coffee spot serves Starbucks bever-ages and offers a wide assortment of baked goods and daily soup specials.
Trades & Tech Cafeteria: Open year-round, the Trades & Tech Cafeteria offers coffee and snacks, in addition to pizza by the slice and other lunch specials.
Common Grounds Coffee House: Owned and operated by the TRU Students’ Union, Common Grounds is a fair-trade coffee shop in the Independent Centre serving coffee and lunch.
Culinary Arts Cafeteria: Open for breakfast and lunch in the Culinary Arts Building, the cafeteria features a daily choice of affordable entrees with all the trimmings — pre-pared by students in TRU’s Culinary Arts program.
Accolades: In addition to the Culinary Arts Cafeteria, the program’s students also run Accolades, an award-winning fine-dining restaurant located in the Culinary Arts Building.
Near campusManhattan Grill Co.: Across the street from TRU’s
campus, in the 1000-block of McGill Road, Manhattan Grill Co. serves lunch and dinner — specializing in burg-ers, ribs and wings.
U-District Lounge: Also across the street from cam-pus, the U-District Lounge opened in the summer of 2012. Offering a wide selection of international fare, the pub also boasts an extensive martini, cocktail and import beer menu.
Earls: Kamloops might be home to just one Earls location, but at least it’s close to campus — near the corner of Columbia Street and Notre Dame Drive.
Montana’s Cookhouse: Looking for ribs? Meatloaf? A really big burger? Montana’s has those, and the atmo-sphere of a hunting cabin, on Notre Dame near Hillside.
Elsewhere in KamloopsKamloops has a lot to offer in the dining department. So, if you’re new to town, it’s worth wandering around
different parts of the city and doing your own research. That said, here are a few tips:The largest cluster of local restaurants is downtown.
On Victoria Street, you’ll find hot spots like Hello Toast, Hot House Bistro and The Brownstone, among others. Nearby are Felix on Fourth, Hoja Mongolian Grill and Sanbiki.
There are also popular chain restaurants — including Boston Pizza and The Keg — in the area.
The North Shore is home to plenty of good eats as well. Local favourite Mino’s has great Greek cuisine and Cap’n Sharky’s is tough to beat if you’re looking for fish and chips.

themselves — so get some help from the Student Employment Centre

help is herehelp is hereWriting Centre
Regardless of your writing ability, the writing centre is an amazing tool on campus for undergraduate students, graduate students and staff.
Getting feedback on your writing is always a good idea, especially if you’re unsure about your abilities.
It’s very useful to bring in an already graded paper with you to help further assess the strengths and areas of improvement in your writing.
It should be noted, however, that the writing centre is a not a proofreading service.
The goal of the writing centre is to improve your ability as a writer through constructive feedback and assistance.
Find the centre in room OM2674 in the Old Main Building, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Math CentreThe Math & Stats Help Centre is
a free service for students and is staffed by mathematics and statistics faculty and upper level students.
Students can work alone or together with other students in a relaxed, informal environment, with help readily available.
The Help Centre is open for your use during the fall and winter semesters daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Help is available Monday to Friday according to the staffi ng schedule
posted in the Help Centre, usually 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily.
During un-staffed hours, assistance can be sought at one of the faculty offi ces located on the fourth fl oor of the House of Learning.
Economics CentreThe Economics Help Centre is
a free service for students and is staffed by economics faculty.
Students can work alone or together with other students to understand and/or solve economics issues and problems — done in a relaxed, informal environment, with help readily available.
The Help Centre is located in IB1021 in the International Building.
