Andaluza de Tratamientos de Higiene S.A (ATHISA) was founded in 1983. Since then, the company has grown with a specific goal: to improve ciGzens' quality of life by providing “healthy service” through conGnuous innovaGon. This convicLon has defined the both the growth and the evoluLon of the group. ATHISA currently has an internaLonal presence in 4 contents and a consolidated R&D department working for preservaGon of the environment and public health. Within the past 3 decades, the Athisa Group has grown to employ over 480 highly qualified people. This permits it´s companies to aSend to a wide variety of services and types of clients. The group also has over 100 vehicles in its fleet (Trucks, vans and cars) as well as a varied and extensive inventory of machinery. Together the group has established 1 manufacturing plant and 3 warehouses for rat poison, 25 healthcare waste treatment plants, 1 pellet manufacturing plant, 4 animal protecGon centers and 1 plant for the treatment of wastes produced by animals not desLned for human consumpLon (SANDACH).

ATHISA parLcipates together with 2 0 0 S p a n i s h a n d Mo r o c c a n companies in what will be the largest industrial city in Morocco.

In recent years ATHISA has designed and manufactured a machine to render organic molecules inert (MIMO) as the only alternaLve to incineraLon. This collaboraLon between various companies of the group was awarded the Eureka prize for innovaLon in 2013.

Andaluza de Tratamientos y Higiene S.A. (ATHISA) is founded with a concrete social objecLve: urban pest control -‐ a DDD company. During the following years the company is developed in Andalucía, implanLng a new model for controlling urban pests based on product innovaLon. In its over 30 years of experience it has incorporated cleaning, gardening and animal protecLon into its services offering. The company currently has over 1000 public and private clients in Spain.

ATHISA begins to provide service for i n t e g r a t ed managemen t o f healthcare waste based on a strategic contribuLon through R&D: the reusable container.

Buffer is created to manufacture and commercialize reusable containers specific for healthcare waste.

Founding of the Portuguese company for integrated pest c o n t r o l s e r v i c e s ( D D D ) : “DeraLzaLon”, DisinfecLon and DisinfecLon in urban constructs.

ConsLtuLon of ATHISA Maroc for to provide integrated management of healthcare waste in Morocco.

The ATHISA Group posiLons itself in the reusable energy field creaLng the company Pellets CombusLbles de la Mancha for the manufacturing of pellets from agricultural waste (grapevine trimmings).

MUNFACTURING AND COMERCIONALIZATION OF CONTAINERS As a complement to Healthcare Waste Management, the group has developed its own company to manufacture reusable containers in house.


HEALTHCARE WASTE MANAGEMENT IN SPAIN ATHISA began its activities in the Healthcare waste sector 20 years ago as pioneers in the Spanish territory. The model is based on 2 premises; the implementation of environmentally friendly reusable containers and treatment techniques that are internationally validated.

INTERNATIONAL HEALTHCARE WASTE MANAGEMENT The ATHISA Group has transferred its success in its activities in the Healthcare Waste treatment sector to other parts of the world. Currently there are companies active in Morocco, Turkey and Peru.

LEGIONELOSIS CONTROL AND PREVENTION Treatment for control and prevention of legionelosis is required in installations that can be considered focal points for contamination of the bacteria on the inside or the outside of the installation. ATHISA Medio Ambiente has developed a specific program that consists of various subprograms: Diagnostic, Treatment and Evaluation.

LÍNEA VERDE – LANDSCAPE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE An important attribute of the ATHISA Linea Verde is the highly qualified staff that designs and constructs public spaces and gardens integrated into their context and space. LÍNEA BLANCA – SANITARY PRODUCTS ATHISA Medio Ambiente has developed this service around societies demand for quality and has converted this element into something indispensable in public restrooms. Our Research and Development department has participated in the design of a container model that adapts to the market demand and responds to the expectations of our clients.

RENEWABLE ENERGY PRODUCTION The company PELETS, COMBUSTIBLE DE LA MANCHA S.L. manufactures and commercializes pellets from renewable sources. In our plant we turn waste to energy by manufacturing pellets out of trimmings from grape vines that were previously burned in the vineyards. By doing so, we are converting a waste into a product with biomass value in a process that is environmentally sustainable. The calorific value of the pellets is 4,000 - 4,300 Kcal/kg., which means that 2.1 kg of pellets is equal to 1 liter of diesel fuel.

INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY Athisa is a member of a business society of Spanish companies working to develop the largest Logistical/Industrial/Terciary and Residential Park in Africa: DITEMA. Currently the society consists of over 200 companies interested in developing their activity and expanding their products and services in Morocco.

The ATHISA Group also has its own foundation; among its activities are economic funding for other Foundations and Nonprofit organizations, financing of courses and projects in developing countries, as well as participation in and sponsorship of international scientific conferences. It´s specific objectives are: 1.  To promote knowledge transfer and national/international projects in

material relative to innovation in hazardous waste management.

2.  To stimulate participation in national and international development programs.

3.  Financing of I+D studies, Doctoral thesis, publications, studies and investigation programs.

4.  Collaboration and cooperation with other organizations to achieve common goals. Dissemination of sector specific scientific knowledge and technology to the general society.

5.  Organization of training activities, technical workshops and seminars. Programs for corporative social responsibility as a contribution to sustainable development in the areas of activity.

IV. OUR STRENGTH– INNOVATION

Athisa Group has a consolidated research, development and investigation department that is continuously innovating new formulas to be applied in diverse areas of the city and especially in activities where the use of chemical products is limited. There are currently 3 contracts company-university being implemented and recently a Eureka project has complated that was participated in by 3 countries (Spain, Portugal and Morocco).


Important Projects: •  The OMIM project was a 6 year investigation on physical/chemical

treatment of healthcare waste. The resulting MIMO System ins an innovation in the efficient and economic treatment of all types of healthcare waste. This project was awarded the Eureka prize for innovation in 2013.

•  Production of pellets from agricultural waste (grapevine trimmings) through an eco-innovative technology.

•  Implantation of innovative information technology and communication methods.
