NARRABEEN - FRIDAY 14 OCTOBER 2016 COMPETITION NIGHT

Friday 14 October 2016 saw Sydney Pacific Athletes and friends come together in the Peter Crombie

organised group track competition at Narrabeen. Race distances were 100m, 150m, 200m, the ‘bolt’

300m, 500m and 600m. Some Athletes managed to pull off PBs despite the headwind trying to slow

them down.

The event was free and ‘Star-Athletics’ kids joined in the fun, lining up to race behind the adults in

the 60 and 100m distances. This also allowed for parents to join in and familiarise themselves with

racing on the track.

New Sydney Pacific Athletes (from left to right) Ash and Connor Carroll, Mick Foster and Ben Said with Sydney Pacific’s long distance runner Gary Mullins (202)

Mick ran in the recent Coastal Classic (a 29km Trail with sand and climbing) from Otford to Bundeena He won the 'GRANDMASTERS' category with ease coming in at 3 hours 20 minutes

NARRABEEN TRACK & FIELD UPGRADE - UPDATE

In mid-October 2016 over 500 people were emailed a ‘letter of full support for the Narrabeen Track &

Field Upgrade’ to share, distribute and to onforward to nominated NSW State Government and

Australian Government Members of Parliament. Your support is greatly appreciated.

WESTLEIGH POTENTIAL SPORTING FACILITY SITE - NEAR HORNSBY

‘Sporting groups that represented more than 3000 families across Westleigh, Thornleigh and

Normanhurst gathered in mid-September to show their support for new facilities to the local area.

Around 1400 people met at Ruddock Park to talk to Hornsby Council about a desire to turn the old

Water Board site into sporting facilities. They are calling themselves the Westleigh Water Board

Alliance and they represented everything from netball to cricket, soccer to mountain bike riders and

little athletics.

Hornsby Mayor Steve Russell said their message was loud and clear. “There’s a need to have more

facilities available for these local sporting groups and with the Hornsby Council negotiating to purchase

the Westleigh site is a big step towards this outcome,’’ Cr Russell said.

The Alliance’s chairman Martin Dargan said the day was a chance to celebrate sport but also to get

behind the idea of redevelopment.

“Having so many local people come together to celebrate sport, enjoy the presentations and

understand a little more about the tremendous opportunity in the redevelopment of 21 hectares of

land for local sport was fantastic,’’ Mr Dargan said.’
