Summary 136 rock samples were collected on the Hare Bay licenses from May 14th to October 7th, 2002. Only weakly anomalous gold results were returned though higher gold values have been documented near Canada Bay (described under Economic Geology). Carbonate-hosted quartz veining with highly anomalous arsenic and antimony are found with the highest gold value of 22 ppb. Sphalerite is the most common sulphide in the Hare Bay Property area though pyrite, galena, and chalcocite were also noted. A bedrock source for the known gold-in-lake-sediment anomalies was not found. These lake-sediment anomalies occur in close proximity to poorly exposed high-angle faults which dissect the project area. Reducing the size of the licences is recommended. Introduction A total of 1474 claims were map staked by Kiex Consulting on May 13, 2002 in the Hare Bay area of the Great Northern Peninsula (Figure 1). These claims are blocked into Licences 8717M, 8718M, 8719M, and 8720M (collectively referred to as the “Western” claims), and 8723M, 8724M, 8725M, and 8726M (collectively referred to as the “White Arm Window” claims). The work covered in this report is being applied as first year assessment towards a reduced (partial surrender) on 7 of the 8 licences (only 8726M is being completely surrendered). Details of the claim reduction are outlined in Table I. This report was based on six days (May 14th to May 20th, 2002) of fieldwork (prospecting and rock sampling) by Chris Hutchings and Eugene Flood, and seven days (October 1st to 7th, 2002) of fieldwork by Eugene Flood, Allan Keats, Soulis Keats, Robert and Sandy Stares. The objective of this reconnaissance was to find the source of the gold-in-lake sediment anomalies identified in the Blanc-Sablon and St. Anthony Areas (NTS 12P & 2M) during a 1994 Government of Newfoundland regional geochemical survey (Open File NFLD/2276). Location and Access The Western and White Arm Window claim blocks are, respectively, west and south of Hare Bay on the Northern extremity of the Great Northern Peninsula in western Newfoundland. Route 73 (the Viking Highway) extends from Deer Lake to St. Anthony. The Western claim block is centred at approximately 51°24’ N and 56°06' W, 40 kilometres due west of the town of St. Anthony. Access is provided by Highway 430 which connects St. Anthony with the western coast of the Great Northern Peninsula. The paved route 432 connects to Highway 430 at the St. Anthony airport and continues south through the Western claim block. Route 435 (St Anthony to Boat Harbour) provides access to the northeastern portion of the Western group. The White Arm Window claim block is centred at approximately 51°04’ N and 55°56' W, 35 km southwest of St. Anthony, across Hare Bay. Access is provided by a gravel

road that connects the town of Croque on the east coast of the Great Northern Peninsula to route 432 to the west. Logging and marble quarrying activities provide gravel road access through the western side of 8724M, and the southwestern section of 8723M. Access to the southern end of the White Arm Window claim block is provided by logging roads which branch north off paved route 434 (Roddickton to Conche).

Physiography The area is generally characterized by low relief, especially where the platformal carbonate sequence is flat lying in the north and western licenses. On the “Western” claims, the carbonates have experienced karstification and sinkholes and underground drainage is common. There is a thin veneer of sandy till on the western licenses. The amount of outcrop is highly variable and the rock exposures are found in quarries and along road cuts. Peat bogs with labrador tea are common in the low lying areas. Fir, spruce, larch, and birch trees are found in areas of elevated topography. Small scale logging has been carried out in the project area with the licenses closest to Roddickton (8725M and 8726M) being most affected. The “White Arm Window” area is characterized by rolling hills generally elongated in a northeast direction reflecting the structural fabric of the area. Marine sediment till with shell fragments is found here. Rock exposure is largely limited to roadcuts, the crests of hills, and marble quarry operations. Elongate eskers and rock striae indicate the glacial ice movement was from the southwest. The largest ponds are Tom Roses Pond and White Arm Pond. Property Description The “Western” claim block and “White Arm Window” claim block form the Hare Bay Property. The “Western” block consist of four map staked licenses (8717M, 8718M, 8719M, and 8720M) and the “White Arm Window” block also consists of four map staked licenses (8723M, 8724M, 8725M, and 8726M). Relevant information for the licences discussed in this report is given below in Table I. Location maps are given in Figures I - IV. Table I – Hare Bay Area Property Information

Exploration History According to Stouge (1983), the first geological surveys of the Hare Bay area were conducted by Murray (1864, in Murray and Howley, 1881), Richardson (1861, in Logan, 1863) and Howley (1917). Cooper presented the first geologic map of the Hare Bay area in 1937. The coastal areas of Hare Bay were mapped by Gillis (1966) and Stevens (1968). The area from southeastern Hare Bay south to Canada Bay was mapped by Smyth (1971, 1973). A compilation map for the area was produced at a scale of 1:125,000 by Bostock et al in 1976. Regional mapping and detailed stratigraphic correlations were undertaken more recently by Stouge (1982), Stouge et al (1983), and Knight (1986, 1987). A geochemical lake sediment survey of the Great Northern Peninsula was released in 1982 (Butler et al) and a more detailed gold in Lake Sediment in the Blanc-Sablon and St. Anthony Areas (NTS 12P & 2M) was completed by 1994.. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador released the Geoscience Atlas of Newfoundland (Davenport et al 1999) and this provides digital geochemical lake sediment survey data of the area as well as regional total field magnetic data. Previous Mineral Exploration work 1912 – 1915: White marble is quarried in Canada Harbour 25 kilometres south of Roddickton 1963 – 1965: Leitch Gold Mines Ltd. in partnership with Mastadon- Highland Bell Mines Ltd. and American Metal Climax Inc., explored a large concession in the Great Northern Peninsula (GNP) Concession for zinc. The focus was on the younger stratigraphic units west of Hare Bay. In addition to prospecting, detailed soil geochemistry was conducted on lines 30m apart with 90 metre sample spacing. Geochemical anomalies and pseudobreccia were found at Round Pond as well as North and South Ponds.

1964 – 1966: New Jersey Zinc examined zinc showings at Eddie’s Cove West and a lead showing at Pikes Feeder Pond. In this same time period Cominco explored the east and north of Canada Bay. Three holes were drilled but the results were not encouraging. The GNP Concession lapsed in 1966.

1967 - Commodore Mining Company acquired the GNP concession in 1967 and began geological mapping and prospecting.

1968 - Cominco Mining Company Ltd. optioned the GNP concession from Commodore. Regional mapping and prospecting discovered nine new zinc showings. The most significant of these was Round Pond.

1968 – 1970: Cominco undertook a regional geochemical lake-bottom sediment sampling project encompassing some 250 bodies of water. A follow-up geochemical survey focussed on the Round Pond area. In 1970 Cominco drilled 83 holes totalling 885 metres in the Round Pond area. A resource of 152,000 metric tonnes at 2.4% zinc was outlined. A further 20 holes totalling 1331 metres was drilled by Cominco in the Main Brook area in 1971.

1975 – Staking rush around Round Pond involves Noranda, Philips Management, Kerr-Addison, and Shell. Shell discovers the Wade showing in the North Pond area. Noranda drills 15 holes totalling 363 meters in the Round Pond area.

1976 – Kerr Addison Mines Ltd. Conducted a soil geochemical survey and X-ray sized drilling for zinc on their Watts Bight property (border of 12 P/8 and 12 P/9).

1977 – New zinc showings discovered during regional mapping by the Newfoundland Department of Mines and Energy. Chevron acquired ground in the Eddies Cove area and Essex staked ground in the Cape Norman area.

1978 and 1980: additional mapping by the Newfoundland Department of Mines and Energy.

1980 – US Borax Chemical Company drilled 3 drillholes (on what is now license# 8719) as part of a larger 6 holes drill program totalling 132.61 metres on their Hidden Pond property license 1337. Chevron drilled a series of holes (7) testing a Shell generated anomaly in the Cape Norman area. Up to 5% sphalerite was noted in patchy dolomite pseudobreccia. 1981 – Essex drills 2 holes on their Cape Norman property but no mineralization is intersected.

1982 – Noranda undertakes geologic mapping and prospecting in the White Arm Window. Lead, zinc, copper and silver anomalies were reported but no further work was apparently done (Mulrooney, 1999).

1983 – Narex Ore Search drilled 3 drillholes totalling 65.53m on/near the Round Pond Deposit, 3.6 km west of the current western boundary of license 8719. 1985 – Teck conducted prospecting and mapping of the Cape Norman area looking for zinc. 1986 – The Penny’s Pond marble deposit (3.5 kilometres east of Roddickton), and the Coles Pond marble deposits (12 kilometres northeast of Roddickton), were drilled as part of a Canada – Newfoundland Mineral Development agreement. High purity white marble was intersected. 1987 – 1990: Aurion acquired claims in the White Arm Window in 1987 and targeted the marble potential. Drilling, trenching, and excavation of a 60 ton bulk sample of white marble was completed in 1988. A second assessment report on the bulk sampling program was filed in 1990. 1996 – Consolidated Callinan Flin Flon Mines Ltd, flew a high sensitivity electromagnetic and magnetic airborne survey over the Hare Bay Allochthon. 1998 – 1999: World Wide Kiln Service conducted geologic mapping, sampling and prospecting in the White Arm Window.

Geology The Great Northern Peninsula (GNP) of Newfoundland lies within the northeast Canadian Appalachians and has been subject to a prolonged and complex deformation history. The GNP lies within the Humber Zone, which is the westernmost tectonostratigraphic domain outlined on Newfoundland. The GNP is dominated by a northeast trending fracture pattern reflecting long lived basement structures. Evidence for extension along these faults is the pull-apart Devonian and Carboniferous aged St. George and Deer Lake Basins. Similar rift-related stratigraphy continues up to the eastern margin of the project area (outcropping at Cape Rouge and Conche), indicating that the entire shoreline from White Bay to St. Anthony marks the location of a first order strike-slip fault. This fault, including where it outlines the southern Carboniferous basins, can be traced for almost 400 kilometres. The Ten Mile Lake Fault is a parallel first order structure 50 kilometres to the west. The stratigraphic column records a sequence from rift-related siliciclastics through to passive platform carbonates, foreland basin turbidites, and finally a Lower Ordovician allochthonous sequence of siliciclastics, mafic volcanics, and peridotite (Figure II). The basal thrust of the allochthon is marked by mélange in the siliciclastics. No basement rocks are exposed, but an inlier of Grenvillian and Pre- Grenvillian granitoids and gneisses are found forming the Long Range Mountains approximately 25 kilometres south of the project area. The regional total field magnetic image shows circular magnetic highs with similar magnetic intensities as the Grenvillian granitoids exposed in the Long Range Inlier, suggesting that they are also present in the Hare Bay area (Figure VIII). The deformation history includes westward thrusting of the allochthonous package as well as subsequent folding and thrusting of the underlying autochthonous carbonates. Much of the Middle Ordovician to Upper Cambrian carbonate platform is flat lying, but the presence of thrusts, folds, and high angle faults provide evidence that the Hare Bay area has been subject to a succession of tectonic events. Deformation increases to the east and south. The imbricated thrust sheets are dissected by high angle faults. The largest fault in the area is laterally extensive northeast trending Ten Mile Lake Fault. The clastic units deform plastically, developing tight folds (prominent in Epine Cadoret Formation east of the “White Arm Window) and a slaty cleavage. Further strain is accommodated by allowing movement along a high density of slip planes (“poker-chip” shearing). The carbonates are much more competent. Progressive deformation of the platform is marked first by gentle warping and open folds (southern portion of “Western” claim block), and then by steeply dipping stratigraphy in the “White Arm Window” area. The Hare Bay Allochthon was emplaced in the mid-Ordivician and no penetrative deformation fabrics are associated with this event (Smyth 1971). Silurian-aged granitoids (as on Bell Island) may have contributed fluids to the Hare Bay area prior to the Acadian orogeny. Open folds in the platform with an associated axial planar cleavage are attributed to this Devonian-aged orogeny and the development of marble layers in the “White Arm Window” area is likely related to this deformation.

The stratigraphy in the western relatively undeformed portion of the Hare Bay area is sufficiently distinct from the more tectonised eastern portion to warrant separate stratigraphic columns (Tables 2 and 3). The extensive burrows in the Catoche Formation indicate good primary porosity. These burrows have been dolomitised, showing some fluid flow. Five of the eleven gold-in-lake sediment anomalies are hosted within the Catoche Formation. The Table Point Formation contains generally massive micrite (with gastropod fossils) but there are some muddy layers within (with graptolites). In addition, there is a breccia recorded in the uppermost part of the formation. Brittle fractures infilled with calcite were observed adjacent to high angle faults. The base of this formation contains fenestral limestone with iron carbonate veins. The Cape Cormorant Formation is a primary breccia (formation collapse breccia caused by dissolution of limestone, now cemented in a muddy matrix) and has excellent porosity. High angle faults were noted crosscutting this unit (sample 10009). The Aguathuna Formation displays secondary porosity. Insitu dissolution of carbonate, and replacement with sparry dolomite was noted on the western claim group (sample 10011). Bitumen residues have been found in this same “pseudo-breccia” texture at Port au Choix-St Johns Island area (west coast of GNP) and at Round Pond (3.7 km west of the “Western” claim group. The top of the Aguathuna Formation marks the paleo-karsted erosional disconformity between the Lower Ordivician St. George’s Group and the Middle Ordivician Table Head Group. This “St. George Unconformity” is laterally extensive (formed due to sea level drop, creating karsting of exposed carbonate promontories). This unconformity represents a potential permeable horizon for fluid flow.

Economic Geology Previous exploration companies were largely interested in the capacity of the porous dolomites and pseudobreccias of the Boat Harbour and Catoche Formations to host epigenetic sphalerite and galena. The largest such MVT deposit in the area is Round Pond, where 152,000 metric tonnes at 2.4% zinc has been outlined. The gold potential of the Hare Bay area is the subject of this recent investigation. In Tuach’s (1992) listing of gold occurrences in Newfoundland three areas are mentioned in proximity to the project area. A value of 1080 ppb Au was returned from a silicified and carbonatized post-Middle Ordivician diabase dyke at Englee Head approximately 15 kilometres south of Roddickton. These diabase dykes extend northward into the “White Arm Window” licenses and as far north as Big Spring Inlet (Knight, I. personal communication). On the south side of Canada Bay a grab sample of stockworked quartz veins returned 0.6 gpt Au. The host Cambrian Maiden Point Formation contained sericite + carbonate + pyrite alteration. Maiden Point Formation is present on the “Western” and “White Arm Window” licenses but no anomalous gold values were returned in our examination. The third of Tuach’s gold occurrences was an unconfirmed 0.5 gpt Au grab sample from semi massive sulphides (pyrite + pyrrhotite + chalcopyrite) from the Goose Cove mine dump 7 kilometres south of St. Anthony. Small sulfide lenses occur in mafic volcanic layers in the Hare Bay ophiolite sequence. Our check sample 10021 tested similar material and assayed 31 ppb Au (and 2.26% copper).

The Newfoundland Government regional geochemical survey outlined gold-in-lake sediment anomalies of 7.2, 7.9, 14, and 22 ppb Au on the “Western” licenses and 5.9, 8.3, and 8.7 ppb Au on the “White Arm Window” licenses. All eleven of the gold-in-lake sediment anomalies in the area are found within just two (Table Point and Catoche Formations) of the twelve main formations. This is consistent with the apparent architecture of fluid conduits and structural traps in the stratigraphic column. D3 fault planes transecting favourable horizons may provide important localizing controls. A cluster of gold-in-lake sediment anomalies is related to north and northeast trending faults found in proximity to a thrust slice of Goose Tickle Formation on the “Western” licenses. The highest gold-in-lake sediment anomaly of 22 ppb is found within the northeast trending Ten Mile Lake Fault Zone. The regional magnetic image clearly shows a distinct break (magnetic low) along the trace of this fault (Figure VIII). In the White Arm Window anticline, micrites of the Table Head and Southern Arm Formations are exposed in a thrusted and folded tectonic slice. The long axis of the anticline is parallel to the major first order fault along the coast. The anticline is breached on the east side by a high angle fault, which juxtaposes the carbonates against the Epine Cadoret Formation. This contact is structurally very prospective as the high angle fault is projected to intersect the eastward dipping thrust below. Two gold-in-lake sediment anomalies are located in the centre and northern portions of the clastic/carbonate faulted contact. Arsenic and antimony lake sediment anomalies are also located here. Limonitic staining, leisagang banding, bleached layers (sericite + clay?), and calcite stockworking were observed and sampled in the platform carbonates (see sample descriptions). In addition, there were patchy and tabular zones of secondary dolimitisation of limestone. Clay alteration (illite + kaolinite?) was noted in a limonitic stained high angle fault zone transecting an anticlinal sequence of limestone and dolomites (samples 10049 – 10052). The host limestone displayed 2-5% calcite veining adjacent to the fault (better developed in the hanging wall) along with minor iron staining in pits (after pyrite?). Leisagang banding was noted in the oxidized dolomite at the top of the exposure. The site is about 1 kilometre south of a 4.6 ppb gold-in-lake sediment anomaly. Quartz veining is present in both the carbonates and the overlying clastic units. Ptygmatic quartz-ankerite veins with rare pyrite are found in the crenulated Epine Cadoret Formation turbidites. Iron carbonate (probably ankerite) veins and hematite stringers were noted and sampled in limestones and dolomites. Bedding parallel layers of weakly ferruginous silicification +/- pyrite within carbonates were found in two different locations (within the White Arm Window and between the White Arm Window and Western claim blocks). Although the initial samples were not elevated in gold, the alteration demonstrates that silica rich fluids have flowed through these rocks. Chalcocite with rare malachite and azurite is present in recrystallized dolomites of the Southern Arm Formation (St. George Group) near the western contact of the White Arm

Window (samples 10032 – 10034). This carbonate-hosted mineralization is associated with the development of “pseudo-breccia” and quartz veins up to 25 cm wide. High arsenic values of 196 and 128 ppm were found in samples 10032 and 10034 respectively. This sample location also produced the highly anomalous antimony values of 194 and 62 ppm. The copper mineralization may be distally related to fluids that form carbonate-hosted zinc deposits. Very minor galena and sphalerite has been noted here. The quartz veining with attendant arsenic and antimony anomalies suggests that a second phase of hydrothermal mineralisation may have overprinted the earlier base-metal system. The highest zinc value of 1.75% is found in dolostones with incipient sparry dolomite stockworking and pyrite on the western boundary of license 8719 on the Western claims. The ICP correlation with gold remains enigmatic. Sample 10117 (trace - 2% chalcocite as stringers and disseminated in stockworked quartz veins in Southern Arm “White Arm Window” dolomite) has the highest gold (22 ppb), arsenic (1205 ppm) and antimony (926 ppm) values. It also contains the highest silver (73 ppm) and copper (3750 ppm), as well as elevated lead (247 ppm) and zinc (910 ppm). The next two highest gold anomalies (sample 21316 with 18 ppb Au, and sample 21264 with 15 ppb) have no As-Sb or Pb-Zn association. The highest mercury value of 8 ppm is associated with White Arm Window As-Sb-Ag-Cu-Pb-Zn anomalies in the style of sample 10117. Prospecting and Rock Sampling Significant snow cover during May limited exposure to quarries and roadside outcrops. Seventy-four samples (71 rock and 3 humus) were collected at this time and most units in the stratigraphic column were represented. Sixty-two samples were collected on the licenses in October. All samples were analyzed for gold (1 AT) at Eastern Analytical in Springdale, Newfoundland. Pulps for the samples were shipped to ALS Chemex in North Vancouver, B.C. and analyzed by a multi-acid digestion ICP technique. Sample locations and descriptions are given in Appendix I and Figures V – VII. Analytical results from Eastern (Au) and Chemex (ICP) are compiled in Appendix II. Expenditures related to prospecting and rock sampling activity are summarized in Appendix III. Conclusions and Recommendations A bedrock source for the known gold-in-lake-sediment anomalies was not found. Of the 136 samples collected on the Hare Bay property only sample returned higher than 20 ppb Au. It is difficult to tell whether these low initial gold results are indicative of the area’s potential. The structure and stratigraphy look prospective on the property. Quartz veining and bedding parallel layers of silicification with minor pyrite were found in the carbonates, as were high angle argillically altered faults cutting anticlinal structures. The quartz veining with attendant arsenic and antimony anomalies suggests that a second phase of hydrothermal mineralisation may have overprinted the earlier base-metal system, though the chronology is not clear. Reducing the size of the licenses is recommended.
