EXAMINATION DATES

These are set by the examination boards and apply to the whole country. It is therefore essential that pupils are present in school on these dates as they cannot be rearranged and there may NOT be another opportunity to sit that examination paper. Some examination boards may offer the opportunity to resit but this will be at the pupil’s own expense and the pupil will not have been prepared in class for any retakes as they will have been for the first sitting of that examination.

CONTROLLED ASSESSMENT

The type of controlled assessment varies from subject to subject but they consist of work produced during lesson time, often under examination conditions, so that breach of these conditions requires a report to the examination board and will often lead to the pupil being awarded no marks for that paper in exactly the same way as if a pupil broke examination rules during a written examination. In certain circumstances the exam board can refuse to award a grade either for the whole of that subject or for all subjects a pupil takes with that board.
