INTRODUCTION ASIAN ACADEMY OF AERONAUTICS

- COMPANY PROFILE | 03www.aaa-fta.com

Asian Academy of Aeronautics (AAA) is a professional flight training academy, established in 1991 in Sri Lanka, conducting Flying training from ab-initio to Private, Commercial Instrument, Multi-Engine and Flight Instructor Rating License standards. The academy has trained self-sponsored pupil pilots from Europe, Middle East, South Asia and South East Asian countries on private, commercial, instruments and multi-engine license programs.

AAA Flying Training Organization (FTO) was approved by the Maldives Civil Aviation Department (MCAD) in July 2010, re- fleeted and reset up at Gan International Airport, in the Republic of Maldives. Gan Airport was a former British RAF base. We are presently, the only ying school in the Maldives which is a major competitive advangtage. The majority of our students receive employment from the growing domestic aviation sector. Maldives has the largest fleet of sea-planes in the world, which is constantly growing and in need of pilots.

MALDIVES

The training programs conducted in Sri Lanka were adversely affected due to extensive security and airspace restrictions, resulting in course durations, being unduly delayed and thereby increasing the overall cost of the Courses. Hence, AAA moved its flight training programs to the Republic of Maldives in order to overcome these hindrances and provide a restriction free training environment to pupil pilots in order to complete their courses in the usual course duration. At AAA, the Private Pilot’s License (PPL) may be completed in 3 to 4 months, and the Commercial Pilots License including an Instrument Rating and Multi Engine Rating with a Frozen ATPL may be completed in 14 to 18 months.

The tropical location of the Maldives, provides great weather all year round for ight training. Other than for the tropical monsoons - which occur for a couple weeks between September and October - we are blessed with blue skies for most of the year.

CREDENTIALS

Our Head of Training (HT), an ATPL holder, an IRE, CRE, FIE, FEE, with 30 years of experience in "training and checking", was designated as an examiner to the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) in 1990 and still holds the post.

In December 1992, AAA was awarded the contract to train cadet pilots sponsored by the National Carrierof Maldives, then known as Air Maldives. Such Cadets were enrolled on approved CPL/IR, MER courses conducted by AAA, meeting the licensing requirements of Civil Aviation Dept ofMaldives.

AAA was also contracted to train cadet pilots sponsored by Maldivian Air Taxi, (MAT) a private “oat plane” operator based out of Male’ International Airport (MLE), also one of the largest “oat plane“ opera- tors in the region.

Having gained recognition in the region AAA was approved by the Indian Director General of CivilAviation in October 1993 to impart flying training to Indian pupil pilots on ab-initio courses leading to private, commercial, instrument and multi-engine license standards which wasacceptable for the issue/renewal and endorsement of licenses issued by the Indian DGCA.

Furthermore our Head of Training was appointed as an Examiner by the Indian DGCA to conduct General Flight Tests (GFT) for Indian pupil pilots for the issue, renewal and endorsement oflicenses issued by the Indian DGCA.

Annex 3 – FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES USINGEXISTING AAA INFRASTRUCTUREThe AAA infrastructure and assets with marginal investment is equipped to facilitate :

• Set up a INTERNATIONAL PASSENGER AIRLINE based out of Gan International Airport tocater to the increasing number of beds and tourists visiting resorts in Addu and Huvadhoo. AAA Air Operator Certificate (AOC) presently under review by MCAA.

• Presently tourists visiting resorts in Addu and Huvadhoo initially fly into Male’ International Airportand then take a rather uncomfortable domestic flight into Gan or Kaadedhdhoo airport in the South, most often after a long transit in Male’.

• To add to this the tourists pay an additional cost of almost US$ 450+ to get to Gan orKaadedhdhoo.

• If a flight can be operated directly in to Gan without any intermediate stops the cost and comfortto the tourist will encourage more tourists to choose resorts in Addu and Huvadhoo.

• Presently there are 1,940 beds in resorts in Addu and Huvadhoo which are heavily underutilised. • In addition to the 1,940 beds the Addu Guest House venture proposes to build 2,000 beds in

various islands around the atoll.• With almost 4,000 beds in the not too distant future in Addu and Huvadhoo, the need for an

international airline operating directly into Gan is an absolute necessity.

Page 20: ASIAN ACADEMY OF AERONAUTICS - AAA

COMPANY PROFILE | 19www.aaa-fta.com

Set up a FLOAT BASE in Gan to service the resorts / rooms in Huvadhoo Atoll, which has been a very successful tourists transportation mode in Maldives

• Tourists heading to resorts in Huvadhoo Atoll will have to be transferred by float aircraft, as the distances from GAN to those resorts range from approximately 60 to 100 Nautical miles • Infrastructure including a Water Runway, Exclusive VIP lounges, Operations and Maintenance facilities, Offices and Staff Accommodation are all available with AAA and in Gan Airport.

Explore the possibilities of basing an executive jet to

• Pick and drop service to Shangrila and other high end guests from / to their origin destinations or MLE, CMB and other regional hubs.• Offer LOFT (Line Oriented Flight Training) for a fee to those interested, under the TRTO

Float / Amphibian endorsements, which is in high demand for those Commercial Pilot License (CPL) holders seeking recruitment in float operations in Maldives as well as in the region. No other FTO in the region is offering such a rating. We have already commenced the paperwork in converting one of our aircraft to a float aircraft.

AAA presently runs a successful fast track and inexpensive Hour Building program for Student Pilots accumulating their required flying hours for the Commercial Pilot License (CPL). This is achieved by virtue of Gan airport (Refer page on page 17) and 4 neighbouring airfields along with the surrounding air space having hardly any air traffic. Therefore we believe that this is an opportunity that may be pursued in Singapore, China and even Myanmar. Due to air traffic restrictions in Singapore and China hour building is conducted in Australia.

Page 21: ASIAN ACADEMY OF AERONAUTICS - AAA

COMPANY PROFILE | 20www.aaa-fta.com

Develop a TRTO (Type Rating Training Organization), for endorsement training and recurrent training on DHC-6 Floats and other aircraft types in Maldives, which will not only enable major savings to an airline or air taxi operator that teams up with AAA, but also be able to provide such a service to other operators / pilots in the region for which handsome revenues / profits can be earned.

Develop a MPL training programme as an extension to the TRTO utilizing third party FFS’s (Full Flight Simulator) initially. Sri Lankan Airlines are offering their A320 & A330 FFS’s at very reasona-ble rates.

Extend our present MRO facilities to Set up a Part 147AMO/AME Engineering Training School (EASA approved for those seeking Part 66 B1.1 and B1.2), utilizing the available facilities in Gan to meet the OJT (On the Job Training) requirements. There is a huge demand both in Maldives and the region, as there aren’t many institutes conducting EASA approved Part 66 B1.1 and B1.2 cours-es

Set up a Flight Dispatcher / Ops officer course

The AAA home station is based at GAN aerodrome, a former RAF air base, and offers• Concrete non-precision runway, 8700 ft,• Published VOR/DME, GPS and NDB approaches,• PAPI & ALS• 24 X 7 fully operational air traffic control facility• Weather station, AIS and other relevant services provided by the Airport.• Fuvahmulah, Kaadedhdhoo and Kooddoo airports are well placed to conduct cross country flights

from Gan, with no traffic congestions .• "Approach, Nav Aids", enables students to maximize on instrument sorties, without flying to other

facilities in other airports, unlike in other countries.• Air traffic into GAN involves 6 to 8 domestic flights per day and approximately 2 international

charter flights per week during the season, making it a very low density airport in terms of airtraffic and therefore enabling uninterrupted flying training throughout the day, subject only toweather.
