Materials: fingering weight yarn, such as Trekking XXL by Atelier Zitron (order # 2010, yardage 420 m/100g [460 yds/3.5 oz]), approx. 35 g [1.25 oz] MC blue

and 35 g [1.25 oz] CC natural. Tools: DPN set 2.5 mm [US1.5].

Finished size: One-Size ladies.

Gauge in colorwork pattern: 34 sts x 40 rows per 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4 in]

Instructions

Mitt: Using DPN set 2.5 mm [US1.5] and colors blue and natural, cast on Continental method 70 sts = 17 sts per needle and join into round. Rows 1 and 2 (Latvian braid): Bring both yarns to front as if to purl. Purl into MC with MC and purl into CC with CC. When purling, bring the working yarn either over (behind), or under (in front of) the other yarn, according to either the letter o or u on that stitch in the chart. The yarns will twist around each other, but will untwist again by the time the braid is done. Move both yarns to back as if to knit. Link for the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7_Ef1EWBGY Continue from Mitten Chart to the end of Round 56. In Round 57, using a piece of contrasting color auxiliary yarn, work begin of Thumb over the area marked with red lines (Needle #3 for the right thumb and Needle #4 for the left one). Continue to Round 89, then work fingertip decreases according to chart. With tapestry needle, thread the yarn tail through the remaining 10 sts and secure end. Thumb: Carefully remove the auxiliary yarn, place freed sts on needle and work from Thumb Chart, working Rounds 1−19, then work thumb tip decreases according to chart. With tapestry needle, thread the yarn tail through the remaining 8 sts and secure end. Work the Body of the second mitt the same way, but shift thumb placement as per second red line marking. Carefully hide all ends.
