DESCRIPTION
The ArtsNaples World Festival, www.ArtsNaples.org, centered in Naples, is designed to celebrate the cultural arts from around the globe - one region at a time. The 2013 festival will create an immersion into the exciting cultural arts of the Latin Americas! Featured performers include nine-time Grammy Award winning trumpeter and Dizzy Gillespie protégé Arturo Sandoval; legendary Brazilian jazz guitar player Romero Lubambo; and famed Cuban pianist Ignacio “Nachito” Herrera. Festival events will take place throughout Collier County, from Immokalee to Downtown Naples, and will be hosted in collaboration with The Philharmonic Center for the Arts, the von Liebig Art Center, the Naples International Film Festival, Naples Botanical Gardens and many others.TRANSCRIPT

Over 150 distinguished guests are expected to attend “Una Sera Latina!”, the ArtsNaples World Festival Gala Opening Celebration, on Friday, May 10 at the Naples Yacht Club.
honorary Gala chairs, Mayor John F. and Mrs. Delores sorey and Gala committee chairs, John and Judy hushon, will kick off the affair with a 6:30 p.m. cocktail reception hosted on the Yacht Club’s extraordinary terrace overlooking the north end of Naples Bay. The reception will feature select fine wines – including Argentine Malbec, unoaked Chilean Chardonnay, and Argentine Sparkling Wine from the Mendoza region - and signature South American cocktails. Guests will enjoy a unique Latin chamber group performance throughout the cocktail reception.
Dinner will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. in the Yacht Club’s main dining room. The menu will feature Latin fusion cuisine, prepared by Naples Yacht Club Chef Ralph C. Feraco, CEC, AAC, with selections including ceviche, Chilean sea bass, Brazilian-style roasted pork, and more. ArtsNaples World Festival Artistic Director Maestro William Noll will present a preview of festival performances throughout the dinner, including a professional tango demonstration and a Latin Jazz piano performance. Contributing to the overall Latin theme, a collection of 25 pieces of Hispanic folk art from the 18th century will be on throughout the evening.

Fresh off her Carnegie Hall debut performance, 19-year-old piano sensation, Priscila Navarro, promises to thrill the audience with her impressive lyrical talent. Navarro is originally from Lima, Peru and currently studies at Florida Gulf Coast University’s Bower School of Music under full scholarship. Navarro performs all over the world including recent performances in South America, Italy, and Poland.

Eighteen year-old Cuban-American pianist and prodigy of Maestro William Noll, Antonio Madruga promises to light up the stage with his distinct ability - and affinity - for jazz. A true piano virtuoso with a musical maturity beyond his years,
Madruga began playing when he was just three years old, and by the time he was ten he was performing in Italy. He has been featured in an HBO documentary, has played numerous festivals, and has performed at the White House.

Rene Gonzalez, one of the finest classical guitarists in America, will showcase his extensive musical range and feature his incredible version of El Colbri, The Hummingbird at this much anticipated performance. A protégé of world renowned classical guitarist, Juan Mercadal, Gonzalez now heads the University of Miami’s Classical Guitar Program. Gonzalez has performed with many established musical artists including Victoria de los Angeles and recently co-starred in the film production of Fernando & Me, based upon the life and music of Fernando Sor.

Last November - in a performance that served as a prelude to the ArtsNaples World Festival - Nachito Herrera had the crowd on its feet during an appearance with the Cuban National Orchestra at The Phil. With A background that includes performing Rachmaninoff’s Concerto No. 2, with the Havana Symphony Orchestra at age 12 and touring as a member of the Afro Cuban All Stars in 2009, it’s no surprise that Herrera has been touted as one of the world’s greatest Cuban pianists. Herrera’s vast repertoire includes classical as well as traditional Cuban rhythms.

Soprano powerhouse, Sandra Lopez, and celebrated pianist, Paul Posnak, join forces to present a magical afternoon of the music of Ernesto Lecuona! These beautifully melodic scenes of life, incorporate operatic and popular song, as well as dance. Lopez has captivated audiences around the world with her critically-acclaimed operatic performances with major companies. Posnak is a recognized soloist pianist and much sought after collaborator who has worked with artists including Luciano Pavarotti.
“La casa: Latin american art” “La Casa: Latin American Art” will be the Naples Art Association’s second annual
collaboration with ArtsNaples World Festival. From April 27 through June 1, artwork by local Latin American artists will be on view at the von Liebig Art Center. Featured artists include three Face Award alumni (JAMA: 2011, Lucy Correa Ryback: 2012, and Juan Diaz: 2013) and pieces from the Naples Museum of Art collection.

Famed Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla will be represented with a remarkable performance of his famous Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. This impressive show will close with the brilliance of one of the world’s greatest pianists, Nachito Herrera, playing compositions and arrangements of his native Cuba.

musical artists including Yo-Yo Ma, Paquito D’Rivera, and Harry Belafonte.Rounding out the evening is Arturo Sandoval, notably one of the world’s most
dynamic and powerful live performers of our time. He is a master and guardian of the jazz trumpet and flugel horn, and a legendary classical artist, pianist, and composer. Sandoval has collaborated with some of the most famous musicians of yesterday and today, including performing with Celine Dion at the Oscars and Justin Timberlake at the Grammy Awards.

Performing jazz, classics, and original arrangements in addition to Cuban standards, the Antonio Madruga Trio is a smooth Latin jazz group led by 18-year old Cuban-American pianist and prodigy of Maestro William Noll, Antonio Madruga. The performance will feature rhythmically vibrant sounds in the tradition of Madruga’s diverse musical influences, which include jazz greats Oscar Peterson, Paquito D’Rivera, and Dizzy Gillespie; classical artists Liszt, Chopin, Bach, and Brahms, and Cuban classical pianists Jorge Luis Prats, and Ernesto Lecuona, to name a few.
Madruga is a graduate of the New World School of the Arts, Miami, and has performed with both the Monk All-Star Sextet and the Jazz Ensemble in New York City. He was awarded the Ella Fitzgerald Award for outstanding soloist at the 2011 “Essentially Ellington” competition at Lincoln Center, was selected as a member of the Grammy Awards Jazz Ensemble, and performed with Grammy-Award winner Esperanza Spalding, during Grammy Week 2012. In 2010, at the invitation of First Lady Michelle Obama, he performed at the White House. He has also appeared as a soloist, or with his trio, at the Panama Jazz Festival, Carnegie Hall, Princeton University, The Kennedy Center, and more. Rounding out the talented trio is Scott Smith on bass and James Martin on drums. The Antonio Madruga Trio promises an entertaining evening that the audience won’t soon forget.

Artistic Director William Noll and Education Board Chair Merlin Lickhalter plan to actively engage Southwest Florida’s young residents in the art, culture, and excitement of the 2013 ArtsNaples World Festival. Students aged four to twenty years old are invited to special events – just for them – that are scheduled throughout the festival, as facilitated by Judy Evans, Director of Education.

Philharmonic Center for the Arts, a group of Collier County teachers will have the opportunity to attend seminars on the music and artists featured in the Festival. ArtsNaples thanks Judy Evans and Linda Cummings for their extraordinary contributions to the Festival’s current and future arts education programs for students of all ages.
