From the Gallery JoAnn Reilly

I’d like to begin with a very big thanks to the amazing group who painted the whole gallery before we opened for the September exhibit. Patrick Rausch, Scott Hiestand,

Sharon Herrold, and Gillian O’Sullivan painted the walls and panels a beautiful grayscale 4 gray and a back stair wall charcoal.

Home Depot’s assistant manager, Vanessa Napodano, gave AWI Gallery two $25 coupons toward the purchase of paint and supplies as part of their community partnership with local nonprofits. Ruth Squitieri added open hours, classes, workshops, open studios in vinyl letters to our front windows and door. The front charcoal panel has ‘Artist Workshop Gallery’ in beautiful script letters at the top of the panel making it visible from the street! Thanks Ruth! I have a spotlight to illuminate it at night. Of course you’ll have to wait for the city to remove the shutters to see it from outside. Come see the new look and the teachers exhibit showing their expertise and that of their students in some exhibits and sign up for a new and exciting class. So much to be thankful for.

Hurricane Irma disrupted our opening to some degree and with the building still shuttered, we may appear closed but we’re open Monday-Friday 11am-3pm. Thanks to Sue Williams, Executive VP of SEV Chamber of Commerce, for having the city shutter the building protecting our gallery and the artwork. Thanks to Cathy Berse and Ruth Squitieri we were able to rehang the art on the walls in less than an hour.

Opening night was very busy minus the rain, but in spite of the weather two paintings were sold! Thanks to Kathy Kerrigan for the wine and cheeses served most graciously and to all the friends and supporters not mentioned here who behind the scenes keep things running smoothly every month.

We are now taking entry information for our October exhibit for our current members, “Members Choice”. Please refer to your new Members Directory 2017-2018 on gallery exhibiting pages 12, 13 & 14 for info. This is an open choice exhibit, your choice of subject..Same format as last year and a date to host is required. When I have filled all the calendar dates I’ll place you on the sub list should we need back up. A constant contact email has been sent to current members with additional info. If you aren’t a current member you can rejoin or join at the workshop or gallery.

By artists requests and vote by our board, we have returned to the option of ‘NFS’ meaning Not For Sale, but a limited amount each month. When you submit your entry I will let you know if that is an option that month should you choose this as an option.

Looking forward to seeing your creations gracing our lovely gray walls and pedestals. With your help and support as volunteers we can make our organization stronger. Please contact me for volunteer gallery opportunities involving a few hours monthly.

Sue ReynoldsMoving to North Carolina

Longtime AWI member Sue Reynolds has recently moved to North Carolina. She wanted to pass these wishes along to her AWI friends:

“I am going to miss all of you at AW! For the past 20 years or more, your friendships have meant so much to me. And, I have learned from all of you and also the great classes and workshops! It was my pleasure to be able to teach some classes in encaustic, cold wax and acrylic abstract painting.

We are going to be living in Waynesville, NC near our sons and families. I will be able to do some artwork at a local studio downtown. Plans are to be in NSB January through March, so I hope to see you then!

Keep those brushes wet!”Love to all, Sue Reynolds

Community ExhibitsBob & Patty Stinziano

Now that the summer is over, why not stop by the NSB Library to see the wonderful art work of Evy

Okerstrom and Dan Butler. Evy Okerstrom is a watercolor artist. From an early age she wanted to learn to paint with watercolors. In 2010, she began a more serious study of the art. Evy has learned to capture the warmth and color of life in Florida. Dan has been drawing since he was a child. Since moving to NSB, he has started painting with watercolors. Dan has a talent for depicting famous people as well as a variety of other subjects. It is a real nice collection from both of these artists. This exhibit will be on display until the end of January.

We are still looking for artists to display their work in the Edgewater Library. Anyone wishing to display their art work here or any of the venues please contact us or the community exhibit member. (Please note, the Edgewater City Hall is not having AWI exhibits anymore.) Also, we are looking for a member of AWI to take over the Florida Hospital New Smyrna venue. If you are interested in taking over this venue, please contact us at [email protected], or 386-944-9249.

September has presented us all with a stormy fall beginning causing the cancellation of our monthly members meeting, classes and studios for a

week or so. We hope all of you came through Irma okay.

Our second Members Meeting is coming up quickly on Wednesday, October 4th at 6:30. Plan to join us to share some social time, refreshments, our storm stories and of course our amazing class and workshop offerings for the fall, and information on clubs including a new Photography Club.

From the Editor:

Also, this meeting will provide an opportunity for you to explore a wide variety of volunteer opportunities that the Artists’ Workshop needs help with this fall. You might be interested in helping with painting walls, providing food for social events, gardening (when it is a bit cooler), workshop hosting, setting up the new Matting and Framing room, etc. Clipboards with specific tasks will be available at the meeting so you can sign-up. Together we can accomplish much while also getting to know each other a lot better.

Look forward to being with you on October 4.
