PARENTS AS PARTNERS COURSE 2019 It was great to have an eager group of parents take part in our Parents as Partners ‘Classroom Helpers’ course for our first session on Tuesday. The parents who attended had the opportunity to share their ex-periences and ask questions relating to the teaching and learning of Oral Language skills and Writing. It was pleasing to share some of our students’ writing to demonstrate the broad range of skills students develop over a very short time at school. Next Tuesday the focus of this group will be on Reading, with the 3rd session dedicated to Mathematics and classroom expectations. We have room for more parents to attend these sessions at the school- please contact the office if you are interested.

SCHOOL COUNCIL- ELECTION/ NOMINATION PROCESS: RESULT At the close of nominations for School Council on Monday 18th February, we have four parents to fill four vacancies. Our first School Council meeting for 2019 took place on Wednesday 20th February, with our current (2018) council members in attendance. There are some members of School Council who have served the school for several years; and who now are moving on as their children move through and beyond our school. I wish to sincerely thank Mr Chandramoorthy Subramonian for his long-term association with School Council, along with Deepa Venkata Balasubramanian, Geraldine Major (Treasurer) and Courtney Smith (DET) for their enormous contributions to our school in Education, Marketing, Parents Association, Fi-nance and Facilities. It is community members like these who do their utmost to support our school, en-suring ARPS is such a great community and learning environment. The date for our Annual General Meeting and first meeting of the new 2019 School Council will be Wednesday 21st March. A full list of 2019 school councillors will be provided in the next newslet-ter. We welcome our new and returning members: Ben Rowe, Mark Harding, Andy Chudyk and Judy Ramjhan. JUNIOR SCHOOL COUNCIL

Our Junior School Council (JSC) group is a group of 10 students from year 2 to 6 elected by their peers. This group of students has a meaningful say in events from all aspects of school life, and supports the needs of local charities through fundraisers and student led events. The first meeting of our JSC group was held on Wednesday

CANVASSING SUPPORT: SUPPORTING OUR CHILDREN AND KEEPING THEM SAFE

During the year, many opportunities arise for parents and community members to support our school. Occasionally, fundraisers involve students asking families or friends to sponsor their efforts, such as the Walkathon and Colour Explosion. At Albany Rise Primary School we NEVER encourage students to go ‘door to door’ to ask for support or money from unknown strangers or community members. The majority of our sponsorships for such events come from family members or family friends, known to students at the school. I urge all parents, for the sake of students’ safety and our school reputation, to refrain from undertaking children ‘door knocking’ as part of any fundraising efforts. If you have any questions about this, please contact the school.

UPDATING MEDICAL INFORMATION

It is important for families to consider any changed medical needs of their children and ensure that we have up to date records regarding asthma, anaphylaxis, allergies or other conditions that may impact on the children at school. Please contact your child’s teacher or Janine in the office to discuss these or any other related medical notifications

2019 SCHOOL CURRICULUM AND LEARNING

This week, school leadership have been working with the Culture Agency Relationships and Environment (C.A.R.E.) school based professional learning team to define actions and first steps as part of our work in develop-ing a consistent approach to the implementation of School Wide Positive Behaviours. Part of this work involves in-viting community input into our processes, communication, practices and expectations. Last week, all students re-ceived a hard copy of our student Code of Conduct, to take home and read/discuss with parents and return signed to school. This week, Mr Mac has been visiting classes to talk about the Student Code of Conduct and what the expected school behaviours mean for individual students. In the next few weeks, a number of further CARE team initiatives will be implemented- including a focus on the ‘National Day of Action Against Bullying’.

2020 ENROLMENTS We continue to have high demand for places at Albany Rise Primary School. We are now taking enrolments for

2020. We would ask that families with children commencing in 2020 contact the office for an enrolment form as

soon as possible. Please feel free to come in or call if you require more information.
