PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Life in Victoria has, again, very swiftly changed since my last newsletter. Social distancing and mask wearing are again becoming the norm once again. I have been extremely proud of my staff during this COVID-19 pandemic. They have spent so much time, during the work day and late into the night, preparing for remote learning. Although this change can be a stressor for some people, I am very confident that your children will come out of this current crisis more resilient and more independent. A majority of our families have been extremely supportive of our staff during this crisis and we know that it will take a little time for students to re-adapt to this way of learning. Experience from what we went through last year, tells us that any reduction in learning during this pandemic will be made up quickly when students return to the formal learning in their classroom with their classroom teacher. Please embrace this change, we will come out of it better, more appreciative of what we have. Stay connected to your friends and relatives, exercise, rest and eat healthy. Minimising Face-to-Face Contact with our Office Although, our wonderful office staff are working at school at present, we are minimising contact with the office. If you need to speak to the office, please use either email or phone. We are trying to limit contact with our staff.

Growth vs Fixed Mindset Park Ridge Primary is a leading government school in the field of Positive Education. The Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) is now embedded in all facets of our students’ schooling (face-to-face or remote learning). We want our students to develop a growth mindset regarding their learning potential. With EFFORT, we want our students to realise that they can achieve. It is important for parents to support this concept. Learn to praise the effort. This doesn’t mean praising mediocre effort. Students are quick to see through non genuine praise. When students say that they are not good at something, we, as adults need to repeat their sentence with the word yet at the end. This statement provides hope and potential growth. Are you a growth or fixed mindset individual? Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday

A reminder to families that Monday 14th June is a public holiday. Students are not required at school on this day.

COMMUNICATION WITH THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Our school policies play an important role in outlining the processes, procedures and structures we have in place across the school to support our core business of improving student learning outcomes. It is important that all members of our school community are up to date with the content of our school policies and support their implementation across the school. At Park Ridge Primary School, we have a comprehensive school policy schedule that guides the development of new policies and the updating of all current policies across a three-year cycle. Some of our policies are updated yearly as they support the core operations of the school. The Review section at the bottom of each of our policies, shows when the policy is next due for review. After ratification by School Council, all new and updated school policies are currently uploaded to the school website and are also communicated to staff and students as part of our internal processes. As with everything we do here at Park Ridge Primary School, we would love to hear your feedback about our com-munication, particularly about the work of School Council, our policies and any further suggestions you might have. The best way to communicate your feedback is either to speak with one of the school’s Principal Team, Mr Blythman and Mrs Chalmers, Miss Christofis, a member of School Council or send an email to the school’s email address: [email protected] We hope you enjoy our first School Policies newsletter item!

DIVISION GIRLS FOOTY CARNIVAL

Friday the 21st of May was the Knox Division Girls Footy Carnival at King’s Park, Upper Ferntree Gully. Twenty of our Year 5 and 6 girls had shown great commitment by training at lunch times in the weeks leading up to the event and they were eager to put their skills on display. Through some fantastic team play, high flying marks, amazing goals and tough tackles, the Park Ridge girls showed great spirit to finish the day with 3 wins, 1 draw and a loss. They were even lucky enough to meet AFLW player and Channel 7 commentator Abbey Holmes!
