Roosters and Fledglings, formerly The Fledgling, commenced publication in June of 1917, under the auspices of the Air Ministry. Scarcity of paper was a problem, but scarcity of material was not, and the quality of both written and artistic/photographic material was high. The magazine originated from St. Leonards-on-Sea, where most recruits began basic training. When Harry Babco ck enrolled in the R.A.F., a Canadian, Lt.-Col. W.G. MacFarlane, was the
